I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of Navika. You two are funny and Navika is a beautiful, classic, "boaty" yacht. You've done a great job restoring and personalizing her.
You gotta love your boat! Granted, it is a lot of work, but a house on land is the same!! At least she is a work of art and gives you so much pride in making/keeping her beautiful!!
Great to see you both again. Great video, beautiful boat. I couldn't believe how clear your bimini is! Look forward to seeing more videos and adventures. Cheers
Hi both. Good to see you again and looking in good shape too. I hope that Tayana realise what a fab job you do in advertising their yachts. Navika also looking so good. Making me 🤢with envy. 😘😘
We’ve missed you so much where have you been looking so much to hearing from you Guys in the future I always love watching your videos you Guys are our favorites let’s not be strangers you Guys are the “BEST” thank you!
Hey Ted ahh haha that's so nice to hear! 🥰 Yess we took a bit longer than expected offline but we're back now and looking forward to sharing lots more again 😄
Great Job, I also have a Tayana 37, Pilot house. Cutter rig. I love it, yes the bright work is work, but as you said gives the boat some charm. Great job below also looks very nice. Cheers, Pop's Fl.
I don't like the electrical panel below the door. A rogue wave could knock out your panel if your cabin door is open. I think I would add a rubber seal on that clear door. Just a thought...beautiful boat!!
My partner and I just bought a Tayana 37 last year and it's great to see the adjustments that different people make. Many of your upgrades we are also planning on doing so it's given me lots of ideas and nice to imagine how we can get her setup after a few years of cruising. Thanks for the video guys, would love to see more in-depth specs.
Hey Genevieve, that's awesome congrats! Glad it can be of help, at least in seeing what's possible and giving some ideas :) What kind of in-depth specs would you like?
Just found your channel last week thanks to your boat tour video that somehow managed to pierce RUclips's algorithm despite my preference for sailing channels. You guys are amazing ❣️ from your first video and they only get better. No long drawn out intros, fantastic videography, awesome subdued music. And your chemistry as a couple...wow, I haven't seen a couple that compliments each other better than the two of you. Your ability to concisely tell a story is perfect. 9.5 out of 10. I only say that because you have yet to tell your story from what I've seen thus far. Where are you from? Alex I think is safe to say the UK? Lars, guessing Canada. How did you meet. What's your sailing backgrounds? What jobs did you have before setting sail? Guessing Alex, a musician and Lars something very technical? And what pushed you both to choose this life on the water? Sorry for the long post but just curious and I think telling "your" story will help draw in a larger audience for you. Either way love your videos and can't wait for the next one. Safe travels.
Hey Dirk! Wow that's so cool to hear, thanks so much for that message. You know what that's a good point! We haven't really shared our story at all of where we're from and how we started this adventure, so we'll have to make a video about that and hopefully answer your questions! But in the meantime, I'm English but was born in and grew up in France and Lars is a weird mixture of Norwegian/Swedish/English but spent some time growing up in the US as a kid and couldn't drop the accent! Thanks for following along :)
The butterfly hatch is very cool. Good job defending it. Can't see, are there wooden shutters or are they metal round bars athwartships? I always wanted a deck prism.
You're right, it has a lot of "soul". Beautiful boat, shown to us by proud parents. I mean proud owners. I have actually been around long enough to have watched you do a lot of these projects. It's been a long two months without you. Having loads of fun I hope. It is always great to get the notification that you have posted. Stay safe and thanks for checking in. ❤
Hey Steve! Yess that's true you've been around for a good while now haha. We took a little break that lasted longer than expected but happy to be back now and sharing again :)
I owned a teak wooden 1963 Choey Lee Robb 35’ Yawl and found for the exterior sun exposed wood and cabin topsides and deck. This polyurethane (rubber like) sealer made in Germany called “Coalan” it is also used for the exterior teak decks on the cruise ships, so instead of redoing the exterior every year they will restore the teak every three years freeing up the hands that were normally used for the deck work they could be used elsewhere during the downtime. I used it on my hatches and roof leaks even the decks to stop leaking floorboards keeping mildew from becoming a problem on the interior where during the winter I spent a vast amount of time. Being in the great white north of Hampton, VA.
Such a classic, Perry would be proud she is being cared for by those who love her seaworthy comfort, a real platform to call home. Great tour, enjoy your travels.
I don't own a boat but as far as essential maintenance is concerned, I suggest breaking it down into smaller pieces. Just because one part is starting to look shabby doesn't mean the whole boat needs sanding down. Just make half an hour here, half an hour there, and pick the next worst looking part to sand and varnish. I think you'll find it's a lot more enjoyable to preserve the beauty of this boat when you do it continuously, rather than in one giant effort.
Thanks for the tour! As an owner of a 1983 T37 for less than a year, I do thoroughly enjoy your channel. Quick question, does your starboard settee pull out to make a larger birth? My bench, forward the nav station, has a water tank beneath it and pulls out towards the compression post and allows for the back cushion to lay down to form a decent size sleeping birth. I love it. I would assume yours would do the same?
Hi there, I have just watched your boat tour video. It is a year ago, but I was wondering what top loading fridge/ freezer system you installed, as it seems it is a pre-made system. I presently live on another Robert Perry design. Cheoy lee 44ft. I am looking at refurbishing my top loading fridge and was interested in how you did yours. Thanks
That was an awesome tour you guys. You can see the love you both have poured into Navika! Well done it really is a standout boat and thanks for sharing!!
Agree, good craftsmanship and wood really makes a boat look beautiful. I’ve had a Vindö 40 for a number of years, and the woodwork really needs a lot of attention. But as you point out Lars, knowing which products work and knowing how to do, then it’s not that problematic. But you have to keep doing it every year, or much more work soon becomes a fact. Navika is a beautiful boat, keep up your good maintenance and enjoy her soul and beauty! And, good to see you guys again!
When I saw a picture of Tayana 37, I thought, "wow she is beautiful!" Then I saw her live, and thought, "wow, she is majestic!" Now I am watching interior tour, and WOW! Absolutely awesome boat!
Been watching for a few years now, so was wondering when you were going to do a tour. Thanks! Nice boat, but yeah, not sure my poor arthritic hands and wrists could cope with all that sanding. You've both done a great job keeping Navika looking schmick!
The tour has been a long time coming! Glad we were able to find a gap in the boat job projects and give the tour. Yeahhh hand sanding is pretty soul destroying... 😬😬
You guys have done a fabulous job improving & modernising an already great design. I’ve always admired T37s and tried to buy one once but missed out. I now own a Jeanneau 50 but even this evening sitting at anchor I found myself admiring the beautiful lines of the T37 anchored next to me. And then your video popped up!
Thank you for the tour! I spent many years cruising on a Ingrid that was of wooden construction so I understand about varnish and brightwork! Wouldn't have it any other way! Georgeous yacht that Navika!
Great tour guys. Looks like you've pretty much cracked it. They're great looking boats and perfect underwater as well. Thank you for taking the time to show us your beauty
Totally with you on the butterfly hatch, I love them, as I do Tayana's and Hans Christian. The boat is a really well sorted example, and one of the best that I have seen, a real testament to your workmanship and attention to detail.
The guest aft bedroom :) would benefit from a frosted? (semi-transparent) glass panel - instead of paneling. Much brighter and still private. Great video guys. There must be a varnishing trick - stains etc.?? :)
Beautiful old boat for sure. At least you didn't name it something ridiculous, as Millennial Falcon, like that other sailing Tayana channel. I love those guys, by the way. I absolutely would hate to own a boat with that much old teak to maintain though. Yeah, looks good, but I do not love that kind of work and it takes much more work to maintain, than people genrally would imagine. My dream blue water boat, if a monohul is considered, for that same reason also must be something in the likes of Alubat Ovni, an aluminium and very low maintenance exterior boat. Don't do yoga, by the way. As may be obvious with my name on this platform, I am now a saved Christian. It were not always the case. I actually were saved from being a yoga teacher in a Hinduism rooted New Age cult: If you want to meet the greatest bunch of demoniacs in your life and be a slave of them also, then try that! Yoga essentially is physical worship of gods of this world, demons really. There is even a Shiva posture, Shiva being the male spectrum of Satan in Hinduism, and that is not just my opinion, but actually what the founders of the New Age, as Madame Blavatsky, has fully openly published in their many books. The female spectrum of Satan by the way is Kali, both being destroyer "gods". You want to worship Satan and the demonic realm? Then don't do yoga! I have by the way done sports all my life, long distance running, bicycling, hiking and climbing in mountains and boxing. For decades I never experienced a single injury of any kind, until I got into yoga. Yoga are supposed low impact and safe, which is yet another notion of most people, which I can fully debunk from real life experience: I got serious knee injuries in both knees doing demanded yoga postures during my yoga teacher training, and that was a man having four decades of experience training yoga teachers demanding that! Do yoga regularly and you will for sure end up with serious injuries. At least that particular cult, that I taught yoga classes in, had fully forbidden one of the most hazardous postures of all, the so-called head stand, but that only after one American man got so serious injuries at a yoga class, that he were fully disabled for life. Still, I had to take one of the teachers under me in the yoga studio, where I taught yoga, and exactly tell her not to do the head stand anymore, and she by the way taught the wrong way to get into that head stand, which could result in serious injury. You got to realize, that many yoga teachers are not athletic people at all, as I have been all my life, but literally got their first life experience doing sports at all during their three weeks of yoga teacher training: They are not trust worthy people at all most of them and has no clue at all, what they are doing! There is so many safer sports and exercises to do. Yoga did not invent most stretching either: Most of them actually were used in modern gymnastics decades before in the western world. In true Hinduism and Buddhist terminology yoga is not at all a series of physical exercises at all, it may shock you to know, but entirely a system of service to their pantheon of gods and the religious rulers: It is worship of their gods!
Thank you for the tour, I am going to look at the same boat this weekend. It does not have the teak decks. I looked at a Baba 40 with teak decks, and they all need to be torn up, and lots of coring replaced/filled with epoxy. Keep an eye out for soft spots. I love the look of the teak deck though.
I own a Tayana 37 and have invested a lot in things that do not matter anymore. I was looking for a site like yours. i want to remove alot of unneeded systems and bring to boat to a more pratical and modern purpose. Thank you! V/r, Rod
Okay dumb question: Now that the bright work is in the condition that it is now, if you just lightly sanded it right now, and put another coat of clear on it everywhere, what is your guess in man-hours?
Hey you guys. I enjoyed this so much. Thank you. I’m about to buy a 37 ft yacht and you tow have fuelled my dreams. Been sailing for years. Watched a million videos but you balled the feeling!!! The renovations you have done are spectacular!!!
In 2008 on my 1977 tayana i paid a thai guy in phuket to remove all varnish then do 10 coats varnish inside and out. He worked 7 days a week. 10 hours a day. Took him 3 months and cost me 3,000 usd. For his labour.must of cost 1000 usd in varnish . Boat was amazing. I kept it up myself till 2018 but finally gave up. Now it looks horrible. Outside. Inside all good.
Oh wow 3 months, that is insane!! What a good story though 😂 Yeah if you start slacking on the maintenance it can quickly take a turn...! It demands a proper commitment that's for sure 😬😬
Great boat, great vid as usual. As another teak farm owner (Cabo Rico 38), I was wondering which varnish you prefer. I’m currently trying Awlwood. The reviews sound promising, and I have say to it’s wonderful to apply. Lays down like glass in most any weather/ temperature/humidity. Hope it lasts like promised.
Hey Tom! Oh yeah the Cabo Rico's are nice boats :) Yess we've also recently switched to Awlwood after lots of trial and error and we absolutely love it! We use the Awlwood Clear gloss which has a yellow primer you apply first before putting down the gloss. We've only started using it recently so can't really say for longterm results but we've heard great things and it looks great. Is that also what you're using?
Good to hear that you ejected the sad person that suggested replacing the butterfly hatch! Break up with people like that immediately! Great tour where we could feel how much you love her, even though she is high maintenance!
Thanks Peter! Glad you enjoyed the detail. We had to cut some parts out as it was getting too long but wanted to keep some of the context in so glad you appreciated it!
Thanks for the tour of your beautiful boat. When I lived on my cruising boat in Hawaii for many years I had to varnish every 4 months, and I put on 6 (six!) coats each time. It took me most of two weeks to re-varnish all the beautiful wood and many times I wanted to just paint it but it looked so good... When I had to leave the boat in Lahaina harbor for a year while working out of state I did what several south pacific cruisers were doing. After putting on my 6 coats of varnish I put on one coat of white paint over the fresh varnish. The white paint protected the varnished wood perfectly and my one year away turned into almost two before I returned to my poor neglected boat. A haul out was in order and a full paint job but the white paint on the varnish was easy to sand off and apply one new coat of varnish and it looked fantastic. As did the rest of the boat after two weeks of painting the topsides, the deck, the cabin, and the anti-fouling. Living on the boat made the huge varnish job worth the time and effort but if I wasn't living aboard I would paint over a new varnish job. Then sand the paint off to reveal all the beautiful varnished wood when I put the boat up for sale. It really made a difference!
A beautiful boat, great sailor with a huge amount of Pizzaz. I did a short passage on SV Penzance and was very impressed with her sea kindly motion in a miserable sea. Enjoy and love your home. I often say “ less is more, especially on a boat” Gordon
Varnish is awesome! The result is super satisfying! Just keep ahead of it and save yourselves the chore of stripping and re-building 12-14 coats. And stay away from 2-part. It's poison to work with, harder to work with, and not easily repairable (yes, it can be machine buffed but if you get a break or a crack it's misery). And you guys have nothing but time for varnish anyway! Right? I don't know what the teak trim around the bottom of the coach house is called but the one above is the "eyebrow". I absolutely love the Tayana double enders, awesome boats. I had friends who purchased one almost exactly the same in the early 1990's and sailed away from the BVI. Great boat.
Hello guys, Love the tour! I have a 1984 T37 with almost the same layout. Only difference is I have a separate shower. My questions is, what model isotherm fridge did you go with? Looks like a tight squeeze. I was considering coming in from the end. Thanks and sail on! Love the videos!
28:44 guys, how d'you get off of the boat with that solar perfectly in the middle? I have the same kind of configuration but when I' at the dock I don't know how to get off...
Good point. So we have the gates on both sides with the side ladder that hooks in which is what we use to get in and out of the dinghy on anchor. And when we're in the marina, we go in bows to (never stern to as we don't have much manoeuvrability in reverse due to the long keel). And the previous owner installed a little opening gate on our pulpit which is super practical to get on and off with in the marina. The only time we can't get back on the boat very easily is when we're lifting the dinghy up onto the davits. We clip it in and then have to wriggle and climb our way back in underneath the panel which does take a bit of boat gymnastics! 😂
@@NavikaSailing I have a MOrgan 41....same problem in reverse...is like pushng and pulling the Titanic! Thanks for the explanation I thought I was the only one with this problem! Godspeed and if you swing by Barcelona give me a shout!
I enjoyed your boat tour. I have been following your channel for some time now. Glad to see you two make the Atlantic Crossing safely. I got to episode 72. When will your next one be viewable?
Thank you for the tour, impressive upgrades while keeping the original charm and beauty. I confess that I did remove my butterfly hatch😱 and installed a Bomar flat hatch on my 79 Tayana 37 PH to improve the forward view, but the original hatch is safe and sound in my basement😊
Awesome vid! Was wondering if you had the Davits custom made or they were bought as a kit and if so what brand, I'm looking to install some on my boat soon. Cheers 🍻
Great boat of yours! We own a Hans Christian 41T, looks quite similar especially with all the wood and unluckily the task of sanding and revarnishing lies ahead of me in the coming weeks and months :-)
You're back! You really did quite a lot of projects on her. She looks so perfect. A beautiful boat! We also made the wooden "ribs" under the bed. It's worked very well. I really don't envy all the wood on the boat or the teak. I am glad I learned about this before I got my own boat without these things. :D But that butterfly hatch is so nice! I bet it is a lot easier/cheaper to maintain (minus the varnishing) than a regular hatch.
I love the look of these boats, beautfully made, great lines, warm and yet will get you through anything. The rig is excellent. The only downside I can see is what seems to be a small cockpit (never been in one), guess that's the price for a double ender and a safety of a blue water boat.
Lol … that’s not a mess … that looks like it’s suppose to look … in his head he was saying …” I know exactly where everything is” … it’s a guy thing …just shake your head yes and smile … we are who we are …
I think the quote "they don't make them like this anymore" fits. Beautiful boat! Saloon looks like on a 50 foot yacht. Love the open space.
Best boattour ever. And abeautyfull boat, too.
Ah Navika! 🥰 Good memories! Miss you guys!
Cute little Navika! Such good memories Fleur 🥰 Starting to feel like a long time ago we were all in Almerimar and then Mallorca! Good times. 😚
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of Navika. You two are funny and Navika is a beautiful, classic, "boaty" yacht. You've done a great job restoring and personalizing her.
Thank you!! Lots of hard work paying off on making her look good 😅
You gotta love your boat! Granted, it is a lot of work, but a house on land is the same!! At least she is a work of art and gives you so much pride in making/keeping her beautiful!!
Thanks Judy! Yeah that's true! And the biggest benefit is being able to take her wherever we want too
Navika is such an incredibly beautiful boat…love, love, love all the wood. You’re both blessed to have each other to care for. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you Marie! 🥰🥰
Glad to see you guy's again! Great Home! Peace my friends.
Thanks Randy! :D
Just so detailed, honest and personal... thanks!!
It all looks very cozy to me! It's a beautiful floating home. Thanx for the look see.
Thanks for watching! :)
It looks great, I sailed on the caribe, from Curaçao to Cuba and most islands in between, that’s why I live no in Guadeloupe, Salut de Gwada Wouter !!
Loved the tour of your boat…and the door closing in two positions…a brilliant idea and so practical.Thank you.Roly 🇬🇧.
Good old Bob Perry on the design front there! 😄
Great to see you both again. Great video, beautiful boat. I couldn't believe how clear your bimini is! Look forward to seeing more videos and adventures. Cheers
Thanks Adrian! Yess we love that spray hood! So clear.
Hi both. Good to see you again and looking in good shape too. I hope that Tayana realise what a fab job you do in advertising their yachts. Navika also looking so good. Making me 🤢with envy. 😘😘
Hey Stephen, thanks! Haha we do love the Tayana, such a beautiful boat and so seaworthy :)
I don't know sod all about boats, but this is a beauty! Love it! 👍🏼😉
"Get Off"! .....indeed. He's crazy! Should rig up a little fan to jam in that porthole while cooking.
We’ve missed you so much where have you been looking so much to hearing from you Guys in the future I always love watching your videos you Guys are our favorites let’s not be strangers you Guys are the “BEST” thank you!

Please stop showing everyone why Tayana’s are so great. You’re driving the price up? 😂😂
Thanks for he your- I love your boat, but I think it is sadly out of my budget…you have done great work on it! 🎉🎉❤
Wonderful video
Thank you!

"Get off!" 😆 I'd say the same thing to anyone that suggests replacing my butterfly hatch with a regular hatch! Great video and gorgeous boat!!
Hahaha it's a real work of art huh!
Hatch snobs! 😊
I love you kids! You are both lovely. What an adventure you have created for yourselves.
The butterfly hatch is very cool. Good job defending it. Can't see, are there wooden shutters or are they metal round bars athwartships? I always wanted a deck prism.

maybe it's because of the break, but I feel like Lars' accent got more American since you made it to the Americas :D
Great to see new videos!
Haha do you think?! That's so funny 😂 Haven't really noticed it but you might be right
Thanks for the tour! As an owner of a 1983 T37 for less than a year, I do thoroughly enjoy your channel. Quick question, does your starboard settee pull out to make a larger birth? Paper charts and a sextant and the knowledge to use them are critical

Thanks for the tour! Props to the boat's designer, Bob Perry.
Thanks Kendrick! Yeah hats off to Mr. Perry :D
That was an awesome tour you guys. You can see the love you both have poured into Navika! Well done it really is a standout boat and thanks for sharing!!

Bob Perry would be proud of this boat tour!!
🥰🥰
I sailed on the Dutch schooner ‘’OOSTERSCHELDE’’ build in 1918 she had the same central hatches, fantastic !! are you English ?
Been watching for a few years now, so was wondering when you were going to do a tour. Thanks! Nice boat, but yeah, not sure my poor arthritic hands and wrists could cope with all that sanding. You've both done a great job keeping Navika looking schmick!

Wow.. just wow !! She is such a beautiful boat.. so much character and a real credit to both of you... Thanks for the vid 😊🙏

Between the original construction and the upgrades or modifications you've done Navika is a boat with a lot of character. Retro but unique. Very nice!
There a liner you can put under the mattress called hyvent
good to know!

Beautiful boat! Curious what kind of seats do you have in the cockpit? They look super comfortable and Ive been looking for something similar. Thanks!
Is that a Garmin Mk2s on your wrist? I like the compact size over the Mk2 especially for every day use. How do you like it?
Absolutely a beautiful boat and a very cool couple, enjoyed the video.
Thanks Thomas, glad you enjoyed it :)
Hello you two. I enjoyed your boat tour and getting to see you after being gone for a while.
Hey Michael, thanks! It had been a little while :)
Mu#ch nicer that some modern boards. Great woodwork, super well maintained. I nice little home to take with you around the world.
I keep getting a hint of Australian accent .. Am I imagining it? Love the 37.. And the renno too. 😀
Thank you for great informative tour. Do you have an auto pilot type option? Maybe anyone knows.
Thanks for walk-around. Good video
it looks clean 👍
👍
Great idea for the chart table area. Does the bed raise up for good access to the engine room?
Good to hear that you ejected the sad person that suggested replacing the butterfly hatch! Break up with people like that immediately! Great tour where we could feel how much you love her, even though she is high maintenance!
Brutal but true hahaha 😂 Thanks Dale for watching!
A great job of showing the boat and your set ups. Great detail which seldom gets explained by others. Looking forward to your next video be safe..
Beautiful boat. Just found your channel. Subscribed.
Thanks Mark! Welcome aboard
So good to see you two! You have the perfect boat.
Ah thank you!!
A beautiful boat, great sailor with a huge amount of Pizzaz. I did a short passage on SV Penzance and was very impressed with her sea kindly motion in a miserable sea. Enjoy and love your home. I often say “ less is more, especially on a boat” Gordon
Lots of space and great features for a 37. Tayana constructed beautiful and safe boats and it looks like you take great care of yours.
Yeah they're surprisingly spacious boats, but I guess that's what you get if you're willing to sacrifice having a second cabin :)
Hi, how much upkeep does the inside teak/woodwork require ??
Hi, not much at all. Once it's done you won't need to do it again for years! It's really the UV that affects all the outdoor teak
great video, 👍 keep them coming love your channel
Thanks so much 👍🥰
Awesome vid!
Nice, where are you guys now?
You're back! You really did quite a lot of projects on her. She looks so perfect. A beautiful boat!
We also made the wooden "ribs" under the bed. It's worked very well.
I really don't envy all the wood on the boat or the teak. I am glad I learned about this before I got my own boat without these things. :D
But that butterfly hatch is so nice! I bet it is a lot easier/cheaper to maintain (minus the varnishing) than a regular hatch.
Loved the tour guys! (Took me a while to get to it). Hope to see some more chapters SOON! 😊. Peter from Vancouver.
I love the look of these boats, beautfully made, great lines, warm and yet will get you through anything. The rig is excellent. The only downside I can see is what seems to be a small cockpit (never been in one), guess that's the price for a double ender and a safety of a blue water boat.
Lol … that’s not a mess … that looks like it’s suppose to look … in his head he was saying …” I know exactly where everything is” … it’s a guy thing …just shake your head yes and smile … we are who we are …
A comprehensive tour of a beautiful, beautiful boat.
Hey Robert! It's definitely a love hate kinda relationship 😂😂
Hey guys , your beautiful vessel just washed in at Delray Beach Fl.
I pray that you’re safe and sound .
Nice boat and all the best to you both.
Love love love love it❤❤❤❤❤
New to your channel. Beautiful boat. Enjoyed the tour. All the best.
Absolutely great video! Thank you for sharing your heart and sole and your boat has both as do you!
Very cool! Thanks for the tour! You're proud of your home as you should be. Great work!
Thanks for the tour, you have a beautiful boat ♥️♥️🥰🥰
