A TT Mk1 3.2 Quattro is my daily driver and I'm utterly smitten with it. It behaves like a gentleman's GT when you go easy on the throttle, but when you floor it, it roars. Lovely cruising and the occasional huge smiles. Great retro review, loved it. And thanks for giving this amazing car some retro love.
I've owned a MK1 3.2 DSG TT, but now own a much rarer manual transmission MK1 3.2 TT, which in my opinion is the pinacle of classic Audi TTs - it really does feel like something so special. I get an easy 28mpg combined, 35mpg+ on a long run. A recent 1500 mile trip around the Highlands in Scotland netted me an average 33.1mpg over the whole trip and I took every opportunity to enjoy the fantastic roads. I for one am happy for it to remain a hidden gem of a car, it makes my rare manual 3.2 that bit more special!
What? My 3.2 Quattro DSG SLine gets to sixty in 5.7 seconds. And it’s 19 years old. I think the SLine exhaust note is perfect. Audi engineers their cars with understeer ON PURPOSE, because drivers natural reaction to understeer is to take corners a little easier and that results in far fewer cars wrapped sideways around trees. It’s a safety issue. It’s not the fastest thing on the road, but it’s the funnest, best looking, best built, economical to run, and it actually has a load space. I’ve literally brought home lumber in my TT. 3.2 has 250 hp. The 225 manual is a tad quicker because it’s hundreds of pounds lighter. But the DSG is more durable since it won’t let you run over redline, never misses a shift, never burns the clutch; it protects the engine and the transmission from driver foolishness.
Good evening all! Welcome to another Throwback Review, in which I review cars from yesteryear. This episode is all about the Mk1 Audi TT V6 and whether or not I think it is a future classic. *Just a bit of housekeeping* As pointed out by a viewer, the 225hp was not the most powerful iteration of the 1.8T; you could get 240, but that was only on the quattro Sport, which was a limited edition of which 1,168 were made. This model also had 75kg weight reduction to help with performance, meaning the spare wheel was removed, as were the rear seats, and the battery was relocated to the boot. Also, the lawsuits I mentioned in America were actually for timing belt issues, but the information for the high speed stability is still relevant, although it was mainly a problem in Germany.
I think you mean timing “chain” issues - which are still an issue for poorly serviced 3.2v6 / 3.2v6 in mk2 to this day (despite the mk2 getting upgraded chains. Even a well serviced 3.2v6 is going to need chains and guides replaced at around 100-130k and this is an engine out job that will set you back around £2-3k. I think over the next few years you are going to see a real decline in 3.2 v6 as many are now hitting this mileage or suffering the consequences of long life oil servicing or just poor serving in general. Pretty soon you will be paying more for these cars as they become rarer and also have owners trying to get back their £3k for chain work. Mine will need the chain doing soon…..I will then keep it and enjoy running it surrounded by electric cars……not for sale!! :D
You should hear mine than on my channel, not saying this because it's mine but look at the comments on it. My car has headers which arent available for this car but had em custom made so it sounds different than all others, it's also heavely tuned with high compression pistons, hpa high lift cams ect ect.
I have this car and still love ❤️ it not getting rid of it. Fist time Iv had problems was it cutting out last week and Rev counter going a bit mad. Anyone else had this problem. Iv gone back to super fuel ⛽️ thinking that this e10 may be causing the problem. At the moment seems to have settled down. Any ideas guys
Mk2 owner here and prefer the Mk1 to Mk3. I agree that the level of enjoyment you get for the money with the TT is unbeatable. It's my daily during the summer months and decent/dry days during the rest of the year. It's absolutely brilliant. MPG on a 2.0 goes from 27 to 40 depending on how much fun you want to have.
Really? With fluid changes the gearboxes are bulletproof, as is the clutch under normal driving. The mechatronic is easily replaced by a DIYer and is the only part failure prone and that's again only if fluids are neglected.
The MK2 TTRS is the modern day classic. 5 Cylinder turbo, Quattro AWD, and paired with the MQ500 manual transmission. (The only way to get the 5cyl with the stick) only 1346 made for North America
I must say the only car i’ve ever truly loved is The mark 13.2 TT.. can’t get enough of every show that talks and reviews it… But I must say Aaron, your verbal delivery (maybe nerves) is quite annoying…no one is expecting the eloquence of a prince but brother sort it out… no one cares if you have to pronounce your T’s et cetera.. but even my 10-year-old grandson says grandad why does that man talk so funny… especially when you say throttle response and Oooh…. Bless him ..Keep up the work… PS it’s all good
Hi Adrian, thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback. I've shown the video to a few people just know and they could not detect anything wrong? I must admit it's been a LONG time since I've had some criticism for the way I speak as I've working on that over the years (I used to have TH fronting and one or two other issues).
No it will be worthless. It will sit inlimbo between worthy classics and affordable electric cars. The half baked fuel sucking "classics" will be recycled.
The mk1 and mk2 TT V6 already a classic, Ev's are also fuel sucking you think they run on fresh air takes huge amounts of electricity to charge them and tons of toxic emissions mining for the lithium batteries
So many false facts in this video… For starters, the 225 wasn’t the fastest option. It was the 240 Limited Edition Quattro Sport which fetch a lot of money nowadays
Ok Nikolas..In which case, the way I should have worded it should have been the fastest "Mass Produced" option. Ok, so one out of "so many false facts", care to take me through the others?
@@nikolaszikakis1046There were two major lawsuits in America, one in 2007 and one in 2008, although I'm willing to concede they weren't for the high speed stability issues. It already is a classic, Both the v6 and 225. Prices for a good one are on the increase quite quickly. Grab one now. This car changed the design book.
Best sounding exhaust I’ve ever heard ! Very nice.
I dunno, my cars ain't too bad 😉. Joking aside, Alex's car does sound awesome! Thanks for watching.

Brilliant car. I'll be snapping one up this year.
At 3:40 those tyres look like Eagle F1 Super Sports... Awesome tread... Transformed my Mk1 TT into a grip monster!
Yup, I'm currently testing that tyre on my Leon Cupra and so far I'm very happy. Thanks for watching 👍🏽.

There is nothing comparable on the market when you consider the design (in and out), engines, availability and price.

Anything with a nice sounding n/a should go up in value
Agreed!
And that’s why I’ve I’ve just picketed up a mk2 tt 3.2 in manual. Did look at the golf r32 and they have already gone up

The reason the 3.2 are cheap is £710 road tax mid twenties MPG O yes then theirs the insurance. Plus servicing, but for a weekend car unbeatable.
Only the ones that were registered after late march 2006.

What are these wheels? Also what specs
Hi Kyle, they're 3SDM 0.01 18 inch.
The DSG gearbox in these cars can be very fragile and very expensive to fix. Stick with a manual if you can.

Tt vr6 mk1 sounds stock far better than ttrs and in terrms of innovation 2003 Tt vr6 dsg is the winner.
