    Hated? Since when? Not to mention that you got the best colour + interior trim combo. And the car you reviewed is absolutely MINT, the best possible condition.

  • @benb2856
    @benb2856 3 года назад +70

    Since when was it the most-hated roadster? They actually were loved when the mk1 was released. Maybe they’re hated now because “car enthusiasts” would rather have the R32 or GTI, but I wouldn’t generalize the TT’s appreciation over that.

    • @perpelle
      @perpelle 3 года назад +3

      Because of the rounded (beetle-ish) looks, FWD and the "meh" performance. A proper hairdressers car.
      Even the miata is less hairdresser.

    • @benb2856
      @benb2856 3 года назад +11

      By today’s standards? Sure. When it was first released, it wasn’t a “hairdresser’s car”. Also, most made were not FWD.

    • @perpelle
      @perpelle 3 года назад

      @@benb2856 Oh, sure it was, I even remember it.
      Don't know what to prefer. A front heavy FWD or a slightly less front heavy awd. They both lack power, especially the awd.

    • @dimitrist3561
      @dimitrist3561 3 года назад +3

      pelleper A front mount intercooler and a simple reflash brings it up to 280 horsies. For European standards, that’s quite respectable. And the 20v engine has heaps of potential with aftermarket mods. Stock? Yes it’s slow, but you don’t buy a car with the 20v to keep it stock

    • @perpelle
      @perpelle 3 года назад +1

      @@dimitrist3561 You always compare stock vehicles, especially when they are new.
      Very few people are willing to void the warranty when buying a new car.

    I daily a 2000 TT coupe (no rear spoiler) with over 105k miles. They are way more reliable than people think. Lots of owners drive theirs regularly with 200k+. My usual problems are plastic interior pieces not holding up due to the sun and heat here in California. Mine is stock but TTs are easily modded too. The MK1 enthusiast community online is really supportive. Fun cars, the TT.

      My dads has 289000kms or about 180000 miles on his. Only issues have been with the battery, the motor for the convertible and I think he just had the turbo replaced. Going to put in a 3 inch downpipe and a better clutch over the winter.

    I miss my old TT, it wasn't that reliable but I had a lot of fun in it. Just a tip, on the air vent controls, if you press the "return" button and the "UP" button at the same time, you will unlock the ECU stats view, and you can check the engine temperature, sensor values, etc ( you have to use the temperature knobs to select the program to go up and down, from 0 to 89. Nice review by the way.

    There was a trial in Germany which said those crashes were not due to the car but for the lack of experience in fast cars of those drivers who crashed. By the time the trial was finished, Audi had modified the ESP system (making it more understeery), added dead weight in the back and also added the rear spoiler.

    There was a 3rd engine option. The 3.2 L six naturally aspirated, putting out 250 hp and a lot more torque with the DSG paddle shifted gearbox and Quattro handling.
    Mine is the SLine version, with a better suspension and rear spoiler, larger discs, and 18” wheels. It’s not the fastest thing from 0-60 in 5.7, but it’s faster than most from 50 to 100. No RWD car can keep up with the Quattro DSG on twisting roads, partly because no manual can shift as perfectly nor as fast as that dual auto clutch. And the 3.2 has a much richer exhaust note.

    I hated these cars when new (same with the 280Z) because I could get a Corvette for the same money, now I own 2 TT roadsters and they are much better than I would have ever imagined holding up and over all being better (not faster) than any Corvette I ever owned.

    Like it or not, these are going to be really collectible at some point.
    At the moment I prefer the S2 but only because it looks newer. That’ll change. I just know it. ♥️

      Dead reliable and very easy to work on. I put 140k on my first '01 225 roadster and all it ever needed was a single ignition coil and a coolant temperature sensor. The second I bought used with 30k on it, did another 60k and it required no repairs. Note that I did the timing belt service on both, but that's maintenance and not repair.

    The TT is the only (!) that madi it from initial design to final production model. 10-20 more years and it'll be a collector that will cost you money !
