well a flappy paddle Gearbox doesn't necessarily mean that it is a double clutch gearbox that just means it is an automatic that you can also manually shift by using the paddles they only had a short moment of glory in the early 2000s tho because then the double clutch came in
+TheCoolSquare thats rights the Audi in this video has a DCT, but they didn't call it flappy paddle Gearbox. F.E . the Porsche 996-996 were available with a flappy paddle Gearbox but just with one Clutch.
When people call a dual clutch transmission such a thing it does feel a bit like they simply don't care for the car or it makes them look like they have no idea what they are speaking of. the DSG transmission was created by Porsche for their race cars, it is a beautiful piece of work that will automatically select gears based on engine revs, what it needs for power, what driving style its set for. I was always leery of the paddle shift outside of F1 but the technology is there now to make it perfect for daily drivers. Definitely want one in my next car.
This is a great car. 6-speed manual, 225 hp, a beautiful interior that makes even sitting in traffic fun, and does well in the snow. It also comfortably fits me, a long-legged 6'3", without even moving the seat all the way back. Buy a high-spec one in good shape now; it's undoubtedly a future classic.
The V6 engine in the TT makes a really good noise and the double clutch flappy paddle gearbox is very impressive. That lap had one of the most amounts of tyre squeal and one of the most amounts of understeer I've ever seen of any car go around the track.
marmaladesnails Okay, you can leave now that you've demonstrated your knowledge about the track (not a song). Which is still on the LBP OST by the way.
Alex Serrano it's not, it wasn't made for the game. Idk if you watched art attack when you were young but the song was used on that. It's all over British television

The music at 3:02 and 5:35 is "Bottoms Up" by Hermann Egger from the album "Cocktail Lounge". Listen to it at Bottoms Up - by Hermann Egger - from the album Cocktail Lounge. Great car, great music !!!
The best part about this car is they're easy to park in small spaces such as Europe and there's no ugly version of it since it lasted only 4 generations. I still wish I had one since it came out all those years ago. Any generation at that.
I keep coming back here and it never ceases to amaze me how mercilessly Clarkson smashed one of the cars that have always had a place in my heart. I really don't get it.
He's always been a whoreshit monger for views. He makes stuff up on the spot that isn't true to get likes. No different to today's clickbaiters. He was saying the E60's satnav "can't be turned off" and it's indicators "don't self cancel" which is of course a complete lie. Another one that does it is that demuro bloke on youtube
definitely not. I actually have a pre-02 1.8T haha! I love it, I've taken it to the track with good tires on and I have never experienced the understeer that Clarkson talks about. It's actually quite punchy, especially since the turbo'd versions are VERY tunable and can make 300ish HP no problem.
You know what's funny. My mother is exactly like this, always late, but good looking. At first I wondered why my boyfriend would make me watch the Top Gear that made fun of my mom's car. But once her and I watched it, we couldn't stop smiling/laughing.
Its oct 2019. Iv just bought a 51 reg bright yellow audi tt. 1.8 225 hp. Full bose sound system. Pristine grey heated leather. Not a patch of rust. 144k miles. £900 quid. Got it as a second car for work. I freaking love it..
Well done. I owned one for a couple of years and had a lot of fun in it, I think the looks are fantastic and the 225 is a hoot to drive. It’s a shame Audi have lost their bottle and watered down the looks in every subsequent model of the TT.
i saw this guy at my uni admiring his 01 TT he was freaking out when ever some one went near it i went to ask him a question he said "hey get away you couldn't afford it" i said "if you say so" and i got into my 05 X type which was parked within viewing distance for those confused at why this means anything in Australia the 2001 TT is basically worthless an 05 X type is about mid range
JOHN SON European cars are just really cheap second hand in Australia most first time cars are BMWs Jaguars Mercedes etc etc Audi is probably the worse one to try and sell second hand depending on the condition you can get an 01 TT for $5000 to $10,000 i mean you can get a second hand Boxter from around 2001-2003 for under $10,000
indeed is it just 01 TT you are specifically talking about here? I am very interested in this first generation TT model and was considering the last generation which is 06 model. I know European cars are cheap here in Aus but never thought they are treated low level.
Hey was a jerk. The TT is about driving not about who or what you are. But the enjoyment of driving a car. People like him do not deserve cars like the TT.
these cars are genuinely crazy. they might not be the fastest cars, but lemme tell ya, that AWD hangs into curves and corners at just about any speed you give it. i rode with a buddy in his 2004 model I think it was? he took a tight curve at 110mph and it held in there with ease.
I have a friend who worked on Audis at an Audi dealership in Charlotte NC for years and his biggest gripe about Audi was how many brand new Audis would end up in the shop just months after being bought and how the dealership would press him and other mechanics to work late and on the weekends to keep up with fixing the problems with these cars.
In my very early years of car enthusiasm ( I'm talking when I was 3-6 years old ) this was beyond my favorite car. It still now 10 years later holds that speck of meaning somewhere in my heart. Which since then has been interwoven with Italian Hypercars and Japanese tuners.
Actually might consider getting one of these I live in the USA and I saw one for like 3 Grand with a few small performance mods still looks like a 25-30k car as well
Iphone if you decide to buy new. And samsung j5 if you buy used... Thats one of the best things for the price if you buy used one... TT 2001 looks brilliant and is not terrible performance wise considering you can buy one for £1300. However buying new is as you said, an iphone. You pay shit loads for quarter of same price performance of other products and value of it drops to so low after a year goes by. Anyways, i agree that new TT is overpriced, however i would buy myself a used one if insurance group wasnt that big on it... Young drivers have it rough on insurance, forced to ride motorcycles or ford ka's :D
The Paddle Shift clutches are paired with the Automatic Clutches. So it knows what gear your in about to shift because it's like a Automatic Gearbox but you control the shifting that's how it can do the fourth gear to second.
Ah but does the TT RS have a V6 like some Audis do or a VR6 (narrow angle) like VW has been using? I do not know how different the two are but I would imagine them to be likely to use completely different parts internally. The very least that would be different is the crankshaft.
Quick question. Do you guys recommend this car? I found a 2002 Audi TT Quattro Le Mans edittion AWD. For only 12k and it has 57k miles. I checked the Carfax and it checks out. So my question is do you guys recommend it. Maintenance isn't a problem I make 700 a week from construction I'm only 18. And I have a uncle who's a mechanic.

I swear this engine shares the deep droniness of the E46 6 pot and a 6 pot Porsche Boxer engine throughout the rev range. Unique and beautiful. Love it.
Back in 2020 I blew up my 2015 Civic Si engine. It was my only car at that time, and I needed something to get me around while I sourced another engine. A friend convinced me to pick up a 2001 Audi TT convertible roadster, 1.8T… I had it for 3 months, and had to get rid of it. I was the 3rd or 4th owner and the car was falling apart around the engine.. But that engine… it was a DAMN good engine. I miss it everyday.
@@medic5258 I get that it's a subjective matter. The round, curvy design is what I like about the MK2 and it's what makes the car stand out. I think Audi killed the TT with all those sharp angles in the 3rd generation. Comparisons to one side, no TT can be called "shit" by any measure.
dude he thinks the Mercedes-Benz is better then the Audi TT problems?! The Audi has a very good engine by the way your asking too much for that car OK I know the bad thing it costs 3000 pounds or something thats to much but its a good car

Was thinking of getting the 911 4s as its an everyday driver too but costs lots still, 997 model. Garage next door offered me this 2004 Audi 1.8 turbo in silver for a 1000 Euros, with two years M.O.T and four new tyres! The car has done 45,000 miles and is in excellent condition. Love the looks, low down, round smooth lines, short hight of the windows, sports heated seats in half leather, minimalist interior in matt black and real aluminium finishes. Has a solid feel build quality, handling and the effortless smooth torque power delivery is a pleasure to drive. Not a track car as standard but you could stage it up all-round for that purpose. Love an unexpected car and disagree with Clarkson on this one.
I Find it funny how he is badmouthing duel clutch back then saying it is "mind-numbingly boring" but now he thinks it is the best thing that's ever happened to the human race. I'm sorry but this is an extremely biased and unfair review. The TT is an incredibly fast car for its age, even by today's standards. Awesome car.
I still Love this Design after all this year most modern Cars all looks like they're from the same manufacturer, With their oversharp, cold looking. I just want a car that looks happy and friendly
so apparently this thing, at least the 2001 version, was extremely reliable, and if you keep it changed often with full synthetic oil the engine will hum away forever. It even handles well and has a legitimate hatch back like a scion Tc or acura integra..... but good lord, it just SCREAMS hair dresser car
This is the kind of car that a 50 year old divorced woman would drive. They either get a car like this or cats. Lots of cats. And a Volvo to accommodate said cats. I'm talking from experience.
Comments by Sidhesh Patil - I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Audi TT was used by insurance sector to test technology that could geotag emissions from a vehicle in real-time. The idea was to use the collected data for real estate valuations based on carbon footprint across various suburbs/township in Australia.
Funny how people back then didn't know what to call a double clutch transmission
well a flappy paddle Gearbox doesn't necessarily mean that it is a double clutch gearbox that just means it is an automatic that you can also manually shift by using the paddles they only had a short moment of glory in the early 2000s tho because then the double clutch came in

the DSG transmission was created by Porsche for their race cars, it is a beautiful piece of work that will automatically select gears based on engine revs, what it needs for power, what driving style its set for. I was always leery of the paddle shift outside of F1 but the technology is there now to make it perfect for daily drivers. Definitely want one in my next car.
The MK1 TT is so cool, and hasn’t been topped design wise in the TT line IMO
I think this was true when they came out, but the mk1 TT is now aging really well. Much more interesting than the proceeding models imo.
I have an A4 and I find the TT a very nice car and good looking too.

I got a original manual TT with a turbo in it and it’s a lot of fun to drive. Drop the top and listen to it whistle

Welcome to the understeer club.
The best part about this car is they're easy to park in small spaces such as Europe and there's no ugly version of it since it lasted only 4 generations. I still wish I had one since it came out all those years ago. Any generation at that.
Audi TT only had 3 gens.

Audi TT: We couldn't find a single thing about the car we could complain about, so we are going to make fun of the driver!
It still looks great - pretty much everyone agrees. Although not according to the comments...

definitely not. I actually have a pre-02 1.8T haha! I love it, I've taken it to the track with good tires on and I have never experienced the understeer that Clarkson talks about. It's actually quite punchy, especially since the turbo'd versions are VERY tunable and can make 300ish HP no problem.
since it's been 7 years, how many turbos did you go though on that awful engine?
I've just replaced my 2014 q7 for a 2002 tt 225 and I love it
Iv just bought a 2002 bam 225 also. Love it
i saw this guy at my uni admiring his 01 TT he was freaking out when ever some one went near it
i went to ask him a question he said "hey get away you couldn't afford it" i said "if you say so" and i got into my 05 X type which was parked within viewing distance
for those confused at why this means anything in Australia the 2001 TT is basically worthless an 05 X type is about mid range
Lol shame, 01 TT Is like $9k on eBay right now.
really? why this car underestimated in Australia?
Fast shifting is to keep the engine in the power band.
I thought the whole point of turbo diesels was to have a broad power band and lots of power available at low revs?

2:46 "Hi, I've got an Audi TT". Cracks me every time
I have a friend who worked on Audis at an Audi dealership in Charlotte NC for years and his biggest gripe about Audi was how many brand new Audis would end up in the shop just months after being bought and how the dealership would press him and other mechanics to work late and on the weekends to keep up with fixing the problems with these cars.
In my very early years of car enthusiasm ( I'm talking when I was 3-6 years old ) this was beyond my favorite car. It still now 10 years later holds that speck of meaning somewhere in my heart. Which since then has been interwoven with Italian Hypercars and Japanese tuners.

The Paddle Shift clutches are paired with the Automatic Clutches. So it knows what gear your in about to shift because it's like a Automatic Gearbox but you control the shifting that's how it can do the fourth gear to second.
I don't agree, the first TT is already a classic, but great fun, as usual.
A Golf in a party dress.
John Stots Make that 1,000001 then. It does not alter the fact that it is true.
Ah but does the TT RS have a V6 like some Audis do or a VR6 (narrow angle) like VW has been using? I do not know how different the two are but I would imagine them to be likely to use completely different parts internally. The very least that would be different is the crankshaft.
John Doe Does not alter the fact that it is still a golf in a pretty frock.

No big deal. Many cars share floor pans and running gear across different models, doesn't make them bad cars, but it does make them cheaper.

Fully synthetic doesn't have much advantage over part synthetic...
when you take your car in for a service, they usually put part-synthetic in anyway.
