The shifter is perfectly fine. If you're wondering, they actually filmed this segment over the course of the series, they visited each of these countries in different eps, then just edited it together lol clever
The problems he outlined here are still prevalent in newer X6's and most modern SUV's too. Terrible visibility, little to no superior storage space over a station wagon or a hatchback, and sometimes even worse off-roading or in snow than a regular sedan or coupe that's lighter and more agile than something this big and needlessly bulky which is more prone to getting stuck in mud or snow, size and weight also contributing to higher emissions, worse fuel economy, the car being slower, and since it's an SUV it's also got a higher center of gravity which means that you're actually in more danger when you're hit by somebody because you're more prone to rolling over, and because you're taller, the likelihood is that if you DO roll over, you're gonna get more hurt. Simply put, if you want a cheap car, get an economy car. A Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic are nice, reliable ways to go. If you want a practical car, get a pickup truck. Toyota Tacoma if you want a mid-size truck, or a Ford F150 if you want a full size one - something with a good bed weight and towing capacity. If you want a fast car, get a sports car. I personally would recommend a Subaru WRX or a Chevrolet Camaro, but there are many more out there that are also very nice. If you want a luxury focused car, get a luxury car! Volvo and Lexus make very nice luxury cars, Lincoln USED to but now they're dropping all of their sedans for SUV's which... doesn't solve anything. SUV's add nothing to the table. They're not even a jack of all trades since they're good at pretty much nothing. Stop buying them.
Range Rover sport, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q7 are all SUVs that can function as a jack of all trades, great off road capability, good handling and comfort, very practical in terms of load capacity and towing, depending on your engines very economical, most of these are also available as 7 seaters or were available as them too and also have very good crash safety ratings. Bit difficult to say they are good at nothing it seems lol

This stupid overweight car is the real environmental problem, not the sportscars that stupid politicians are trying to ban!!!

Ironically that is the only semi automatic gear lever I've ever seen which is the RIGHT way around! Look at any sequential gearbox, you pull down towards you to shift up and away to shift down. It's more natural when accelerating or decelerating.

@@gtigaming3059 that generation of x6 was pretty shit for reliability iirc
Love my X5
Exactly they're for people who can't drive and need to sit up high so they can "see".
Range Rover sport, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes
GLE, Audi Q7 are all SUVs that can function as a jack of all trades, great off road capability, good handling and comfort, very practical in terms of load capacity and towing, depending on your engines very economical, most of these are also available as 7 seaters or were available as them too and also have very good crash safety ratings. Bit difficult to say they are good at nothing it seems lol
I like how the gear lever is actually the correct way around
The button mashing at 2:18 :)
@2:15 Both paddles do the same thing??? Didn't know I could go in the iDrive menu and set the left paddle to upshift and the right one to downshift! This is a £100.000 PS3!! I agree with Jeremy, it's utterly useless!! Wasting various resources to produce it and to run it!! This stupid overweight car is the real environmental problem, not the sportscars that stupid politicians are trying to ban!!!
Even as a young person who works for BMW I can't stand iDrive, I prefer older cars with buttons and knobs. Your muscle memory takes over when you drive an older car enough and that just never happens with iDrive or other modern infotainment screens.
IDrive is still better than the touchscreen crap
WTF Man! Jeremy is AWESOME! I just wish he would do more in NZ...
1:50 I just ease the temperature up and “loses map” THE SCWEENS GONE!! I DON’T KNOW WHICH WAY TO GO BECAUSE THIS IS… WHY YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT!!!!? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
James May in the next scene to Jeremy “You’re an apocalyptic dingleberry”😂😂
Pull for upshift and push for downshift is how sequential Gearboxes work , and it’s the only way I feel comfortable using it . It’s a plus for me :)
He has just about the BEST job in the world
John locke id kill someone for his job😪
If only he knew that everyone would start buying cars like this
This design has to be one of the most popular suv designs now. Mercedes ripped it off with the GLE and GLCS. BMW still uses it and uses it on other variants too not only the X6.
Its crazy succesful imo
jeremy literally reviews and gives solid descriptions on cars like no other host to feature the show
The budget for this review must be off the charts
I'm thankful so many people hate on this car... Keep driving the resale price down so I can scoop one up at a good deal in 2020! Like so many on here have mentioned, this car has a beast like presence on the road... I've never seen anything quite like it.
is this the way to advertise Landrover?
Maybe
And the X6 was a success. Now its 2020 and we have 3rd gen x6 and audi, porsche, mercedes and many more makes suv like this.
Lmao he went to Australia just for the glovebox bit and did this entire segment to travel the world and get a free Caribbean vacation out of it 😂😂😂
7:22 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH the transition
looks a bit like a panda
HA HA HAAAAAAA
black x6, phantom, white X6 look like a panda
I agree, so does the car!
Basically this is "Around the world in 80 days"..... But it's Top Gear style
Ironically that is the only semi automatic gear lever I've ever seen which is the RIGHT way around! Look at any sequential gearbox, you pull down towards you to shift up and away to shift down. It's more natural when accelerating or decelerating.
Did anyone notice the sound of the door closing at 0:54?
1:04 I started crying
Heartbreaking I liked the look of the X6 and use to want one.... Thanks for the review TG
2:34 thats oddly specific what is he referencing ?
actually pushing the lever for loweing the gear is the right one.. just like in racing..
May: keep it cheap and simple
Nobody:
Absolutely Nobody:
Clarkson: goes to the other side of the globe to make a joke
2:03 how is that a complaint? That's the most natural way of shifting
the fact that nobody understood the sense of the clip blows me up....of course Jeremy went all over the world to do stupid tests. The clip is understandable now because everybody buys unnecessairly big coupe suv and THAT is the message the review wants to send. Nobody needs a coupe SUV so they made a clip where Jeremy made unnecessary tests...it is the best metaphore/parallelism. Throwback where Top Gear was totally ahead of its time
Great observation actually, and it's unbelievable how true it is now
James: "keep it cheap and simple"
Jeremy: turns the review into one of the most expensive episodes in the history of top gear
40k for an X6 14 years ago… wow. Just wow.
I Remember the First the First Time i Saw in my Town , it was amazing back then
