Love the X6 .....happens to be my dream car. Am watching all the way from Kenya, Africa.
😢
Don’t forget that this is a subscription device so after a year they bill you again for another year
bit naughty that matt didnt say that
Matt you have a responsibility to make viewers aware of this. Just had me for £122.88.
Good plug for Carly, you may want to make your subscribers are aware that Carly is an annual subscription, takes the purchase price every year !!!
yeah happened to me, they auto renew the shits
Bimmercode is better and no annual sub if you have a BMW
Also dont forget to clear all the faults before buyer comes!
@@Gregsthename Does it work on the 3 pointed Swaz tickers?
@@JamesSmith-qs4hx Given its name James - I am guessing not
I love the information you share because sometimes as a man and interest with big boys toys, we pay small attention to costs like what you've mentioned about tyre costs. Information like that quickly brings your dream to reality. Much much appreciated as always.
Funny how the Carly read alouds never mention the annual subscription..... 🤣
Bimmerlink is the way to go.
I mean these days you should really expect something that is constantly updated over the air to have an annual fee.
You don’t even get a renewal reminder and happened to me lol. Wouldn’t give me my money back so I raised it with the bank.
Second time I just paid and cancelled the subscription through Apple so it doesn’t renew
Fantastic car for someone, my next door neighbour has one, bought it new, similar miles to this example, a year newer, he's had zero issues with it, I've been out in it on a occasions, nice vehicle.
Loved this shape X6. Didn't always sit well with most but I thought it was amazing. Proper look this back in the day
I agree still lovely cars imo
I don't know about you, but where I live, these cars are exclusively used by drug dealers and people that want to leave the impression they work in organized crime.
The N57 usually needs a water pump, an alternator, a valve cover, an intake manifold, a timing chain kit, rod bearings and crank bearings if you wanna keep it going after 150k.
Basically it's an engine out job with a price tag of 5k. These are cheap for a reason. Great cars when they work, and they are quite reliable. But reliable doesn't mean it's cheap to maintain. They are quite needy.
DOnt forget oil pump ,after 140k it need to be changed .My friend X5 40d died becase he did not change oil pump
@ Yes, I forgot, but you are right.
Point is, it's a rather expensive thing to keep going and I'm not sure it's the best car to retail, as the customer would not be happy with a spun rod bearing.
@@ast5515 probably still drives better than the new bm's though.
@ Dunno. I briefly owned an F11 and I wasn't too impressed with the ride quality and the interior quality. Wasn't too impressed with the transmission tuning either (lugging it for no reason, feels like no power, then drops 2 gears and it's too much (instead of 1).
Same issue with the B58 440i, though at least that's fine in sport mode. The F11 hangs on to a gear for too long in sport for daily driving.
@ast5515 I just know that generation of bmw has a heavy chassis and steering and the cars felt really planted to the ground like tanks where the car would feed you the input from the road. The F11 and newer certainly doesn't have that. I always thought newer bmws had better transmissions tho? ZF 8 speed?
Nice to see that it has a number of Halfords service stamps in the book, very reassuring (?)
£6250 retail to buy . £6250 to maintain . Had older BMW's and you need twice the price to run them.
Strange statement. Perhaps you do not know much about cars. My 23 yr old e46 330 m-sport is on 143k and says you are talking tres bollox 😂😂😂
@@MarkB-33 Only talking from 40 years of owning cars . Had an E36 bought at 15 years old and kept for 6 years , putting 12-15,000 miles a year on it so expected mileage consumables but it also went in for all sorts of other bits In between servicing . Had a local specialist or it would have been even more tres bollox in costs.
TBF it was a 6 cylinder coupe so heart over head.
@@williamfence566 I have BMW E93 2.0i ,only i know how much money i put in that car to service it but still keep it becase i like to have cabrio as second car, there is lot off sunshine days here .Few month ago is started smoking white from exhaust and losing power .So i waited 4 hours for tow truck .After a month in a shop i got it ,and today i drive and in middle off the city like large explosin from engine ,i scared to death and pedestrian tought its terrorist attack and some smoke off something burned .SO tow truck again.BMW life
@@dzonikg the 2.0l petrols are terrible, avoid at all costs.
Had a very similar issue with a cayenne. Interstellar miles and Interstellar bills. Had to go.
Another entertaining and informative video Matt. Who else spotted the amusing coincidence when the rear seats with black leather trim and black headlining were described as "coffiny" and the camera panned away from the car to reveal the old hearse parked in the yard. I really ought to get out more......!!
I recently got a 2012 bmw x5 to take my bike out when I'm going on trails. Paid 7k for it, 50k miles on the clock, full bmw service history. Did the gearbox service myself straight away, just to be sure. Apart from a few marks on the arm rest (sorted with leather products very easily) it's fking awesome. What a car. It's space great with black interior. It looks mint. Been well looked after, undercoated, all joints look brand new. The only thing I'm worried about is air suspension, because honestly I'm clueless about it. But the car looks the nuts, none car people think I'm driving about in a 50k vehicle. If you can find a mint one, and dont care about fuel prices, it's well worth it.
What was the problem with the leather, and what products did you use to fix it? Thanks.
don't worry about the air suspension it's very easy to repair I replaced 2 airbag at the back myself 20 min work on one side very easy job and the airbag are cheap I bought 2 from ebay for £100 and they have a 10 year warranty
@derekduxbury1122 the arm rest was just worn. I used leather cleaner then a bit of leather touch up paint, used an old belt I had to add texture the the bits I painted. Honestly you wouldn't know now unless I really spotted it out to you.
@marcingrabowski4729 thanks for the info. That's actually really good news. I've only ever heard bad news about air suspension. Hearing something good for a change is awesome 👌
I have driven the X5 & great to drive, but low profiles on these cars just makes them feel less smooth. I’d rather have smaller wheels and bigger tyres. Low profiles look great but you don’t see them yourself when you are driving the thing! 😂
Listen mush, as a resident of Denton I can confirm that everyone between the ages of 10 and 40 in the '80s hung around with, went to school with, went to the pub with or had a punch up with Mick Hucknall.
Just like all those from an earlier generation played football with Geoff Hurst when they were at school.
Mind you, I lived in Stretford as a kid between 1962 & 1966 and all the lads in our school had an older sister who was, or had been going out with some, or all, of Herman's Hermits.
This car looks so much better after a good buff and the fitment of some new reg plates! Nice work Matt.
I love watching your reviews , to see how these cars age.
I actually really enjoy the X6, so this was pleasant to watch. For a 13 year old car, it really does look good.
Looks great, nice and tidy, well kept and looked after!
Great video and work as always Matt! : D
Watched the video when you gave the car to your friend Class.very moving and I know it was real because you were definitely out of your comfort zone well done
"You can't do that" :D
The X6 aged well in the sense that it's still as hideous as it was when new. This car marks when it sadly all started to go wrong with BMW.
Couldn’t agree more.
Agreed. Buy an X5.
So true, bloody awful. How this got passed a styling panel is anyone's guess...
@@andrewwaller5913 Yeah, or better still, an e61 or e91. Especially the 3-series still holds up
I just sold a 2007 e91 manual 325d (same engine, but in a much, much prettier car), same mileage (140k) for £850 and was delighted to get out of it at that. Needed a clutch (possibly also dual mass flywheel- who knows? But I didn't want to start investigating), and DPF light on every trip. Would have been so, so much money to keep it going. These cars are expired at 150k. You just so rarely see them with much more than that on them. The X6 is a deeply unsettling looking vehicle too.
Love watching yours vids so glad this dropped, been looking for a new one to watch !
Oh...that rear door opening and closing, sounds reminds me of an Toyota Aygo door!
I own a 530d and the BMW bongs of doom at 10:35 are triggering my ptsd
Bongs of doom!! 😂😂😂
🤣🤣 Me too I used to wake sweating in the middle of the night from those bongs when I last owned a BMW. 6 months ago I thought I might try another and as soon as I started it up it started bonging. So I switched off and went back into the salesman and said I just can't buy It, I think he thought I was mad.

And to make you more pissed off that bong even coming to tell you about temperature lower then +3
Did anyone else notice the really huge service intervals? One was 20k miles.
Madness, no wonder these cars can be problematic.
Also, much rather have an X5 than X6.
Got it for 4 grand but it’s still a 60grand motor in running costs etc and there is what people don’t take on board
Cant have an episode without a subtle partridge reference. Good man
Anyone else missing the Wondergrip van?
We do get a sneak peak of his next videos when you look around the yard…..I’m still waiting for the “I bought a cheap hearse for £500” video
Yes, and the office carpark!
Brilliant!....if you know, you know.
And carvertical from this video missed that
x6 were 4-seats in the beginning, later on bmw switched to more common 5-seats layout
Also, bmw without error codes active is not a true bmw:)
My optician bought one of these to complement his BMW saloon but died suddenly not long afterwards. The grim unpredictability of life. Must buy a massive box of chocs for Christmas.
He needed his eyes testing
The valeted missed the indicator stalk. And now I can’t take my eyes from it😅😅
Thats all i noticed throughout the video lol. Magic sponge will sort that out with some APC.
They always miss that on many of his cars
@@adamharris9946 they are like that all over with these car washes. Hardly any of them speak English and have never washed a car before. I think he needs to source a proper detailer and arrange some sort of payment plan.
Yup, they wipe stuff down with some shiny detailing product but they never actually clean anything!
@@StuntmanMike555 Do they need to speak English to wash a car?
Your east London krays statement is completely true, I'm from North London and practically everyone who claims to be from East London over a certain age lived in valance rd. And knew them, must've been the longest road in London
Good looking car, the new turbo would have been a big concern at that milage but it's not bad at all
I've owned several BMW's with this engine in both petrol and diesel variants and at least in my experience between 120k and 150k all the engine accessories start to fail. That's not a knock on BMW. I'd consider that good going but the starter, alternator and water pump all leave you needing a tow when they go and in my experience there's never much warning. I'd factor in 1500 quid to have them all replaced if I was buying it and get them all done. 200k and more is easily achievable after that. They burn oil (especially petrols) but it's not the end of the world.
I think from 2010/11 they came with zf8, Put it in Manual mode to find out ..
Congratulations Matt. Finally you've realised that it's not economocally viable to spend a small fortune on wheel refurbs for what is essentially a small budget vehicle. With reference to the handbrake switch , 50 quid is still a lot of money for what the item is.
Imagine how cool it would be if Matt did a video/interview kind of, with Jeremy in a Range Rover just talking about cars
My old boss had an X6. He was in quite a bad accident which involved leaving the road and rolling multiple times down a hillside. His children were able to exit but he was trapped. The fire brigade eventually cut him out and said that in most other cars, he probably wouldn't have survived.
Good to see your L322 being used - It still looks amazing!
You should be able to get your recon costs (maybe a bit more) by selling the plate off separately to a Shih Tzu owner Matt!.
Someone will probably pay £1500 for that.
Good point
Was just about to write this , I own a Lhasa similar breed so had notice the reg straight away
£1500 for the plate, that's more than I'd pay for the plate and the car.
@@mrdunns3338 not a bmw fan then. Daft statement though 😂😂😂
Plates worth £150
Purchased a Carly last year , it worked once on a full subscription, just kept asking to upgrade to full subscription although I had already purchased a full subscription.information customer service several times with no joy .cancelled subscription maybe I was just unlucky but customer service didn’t resolve my issues so a total waste of my money cheers Carly
BMW X6 you got yourself a bargain Matt
I don't really care what Top gear said or what other forums says about this car...
I like it and until i can afford it my review is positive
I’ve always loved the meaty looking X6 from that timeline.
I’d probably regret owning one from the insurance and maintenance point of view, but it’s still a beautiful beast 👌
My 'I've massively over-spent' air fresheners and key-tag arrived safely at my humble cottage earlier today. They are a welcome fitment for my 'massively over-serviced' Volkswagen Polo (I'd do anything to prevent those well-established coil pack and timing chain issues😉). They are of a high quality, and I will be buying more High Peak Autos items. Thanks a lot Matt.
Still love to watch your videos Matt. But I would love it even more when they took place at the parking spot near the Wondergrip van instead of this not very representative backyard...
That number plate really suits it 💩
Beat me to it 💩
maybe a dog owner?
I went to the zoo the other day, there was only one dog in it, it was a shitzu.
Badumm! Tss!
@@TonyWhitley I'll get your coat......
@@TonyWhitley don't mind that one 😁
Have you seen Jeremy Clarksons review on the BBC Top gear on this car. Its one of the funnest review I have seen and I have watched them all but this one stands out as one of the best
Have you watched this video?
Matt, you didn’t lift the bonnet so I couldn’t see the engine but I believe a UK 2011 30d will have the later N57 diesel (not as reliable as the pre LCI M57) and should have the first gen ZF 8 speed. Read the comments for the maintenance required on that N57 😮
For me, when I see a premium SUV being serviced at Halfords, with a set of budget tires fitted suggests to me it's been maintained on shoe string. Usually makes me cautious...I suppose it depends on the price.
New front camera angle is brilliant
Like Matt said, FSH is key when buying a vehicle like this.
I had one of these x6 40d x-drive, absolutely loved the car, but unfortunately it turned into a money pit, had to get a whole new fuel system at £4500, then a starter motor at 500 the straw broke when the turbo oil seal blew, shame but I think the dealer that sold it me ripped me off, would I have another? Yeas but probably the newer model, oh and ref the wing mirrors folding, when you lock the car press a d hold the lock button, they should fold, great video keep up the great work.
That’s a good looking car 👍 and you didn’t massively overspend.
17:50 The inline 6 ALWAYS sounds nice!
Kinda busy at the moment but giving it a straight thumbs up and will watch it later!
Why are now all the cars being delivered to the boneyard, rather than the office car park?
No space probably

That Aygo and C1 in the background looked good 👍. Love your channel 👌
Watch the tyres theres a specific tolerance if you put new on the front if the tread is out of tolerance with the rears you will get transfer box issues/ possible failure
Accelera is not a Halford's brand tyre. They are readily available, and I fit quite alot to BMW X5's & X6's, usually because the owner can't afford the original premium branded Runflat tyres so they replace them with standard cheap tyres!!
Champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget
For that £70 detail I'd have expected them to do something about that grimy indicator stalk!
You did do a should you buy with the x6 it almost made me get one! Good to see one again though 👌
Change out of £5k, well worth it even with 140k on the clock. As others have said though they do get very spendy as the mileage gets high. I am having the same thing with my Cayenne currently!
I’ve always loved the look of this gen X6 even tho they got slated. White does it no favours imo not the black painted wheels. Would love to try the 35i petrol.
I always wonder about the car prices in UK! Here in Austria you can’t find any x6 under 10k € without dead engine
Matt My 1999 BMW E38 Just passed another Mot 12 months wow its mint peppermint green and pearl white inside and lush ,200,000 now .ill have to show you one day im only in worsley .
if you want to know what people think of the X6 just look to the reg... SH!TSU 😂.....but love the vids as always! lovely seeing a local bloke on the RUclipss!
Good cars, if it’s the newer engine n57 the rod bearing and chain are problem to worry about as will result in a new engine. The older m57 is bulletproof but not ulez
One of the best cars of these recent years, still timless looking
Strangely I really did know a couple of people who's Grandparents knew the Krays and I personally knew Brad Knight, Ronnie Knights nephew..he was a Lloyds of London Underwriter
This X6 cleaned up well, it should sell very quickly, BMW is a very popular brand❤.
Love the Phoenix Nights reference! Another great video.
Always liked these and that was a good’un. 👍🏻
I'm not sure I'd want to drive an X6 without a bag over my head. Absolutely gopping.
Avoid the ones with a sunroof the drain line can block and causing water Ingres in the footwell that then fry’s the electrics located under the front seats
Love the Phoenix Nights reference 🤣🤣

Nice Brian Potter reference. God knows how many times I've seen Phoenix Nights!
As always Matt👌👌
My friend bought a straight 6 2005 Le Mans BMW X5, nice car with every option possible I mean heated steering wheel n all. Thing could go 160kmh and barely be ticking over, impressive for a 2 tonnes car
I miss mine .... Had to scrap it because the high pressure fuel pump died and BMW wanted 14k to replace the whole fuel system as there might be swarf in the system so just changing the pump wouldn't be good enough.
For that kinda price, (retail) does sound a good deal! Great video as always
I know a guy with a 73 reg X6 3.0 d M sport and its a right beast 💪👊
Don’t forget to clean the back of them storks on the steering column. They are rough even after the valet.

Plenty of handbrake buttons on fleabay for afew quid as they crack, break, wear out or fall apart lol I had one on my 640D done!
Our X5 E70 40d twin turbo, also 2011 just had 4 new tyres, WESTLAKE RFT only £150 a corner, staggered 20's 👍👍
I always wonder if any of the old owners ever see these videos lol shout out to Julie and Steve
Tax a bit steep, but honestly I bet thats a great m-way driver - high enough to give a good view, but low enough to avoid wind pushing it around - bit of umph in the engine, and comfy seating. Youd get another 100k mileage from the engine- and cruising at 70mph on a mway, youll get reasonable mpg from it.
Bought by people who know nothing about cars but want a stylish tank.
When the X6 was first released it was roundly criticised by the motoring press for its restrictive rear view and reduced rear accommodation compared to the X5 but it was the first of the now popular SUV coupe now quite common amongst many other manufacturers which around the world has been quite popular. It looks too much like a gangsters' car to me and don't expect other drivers to let you into traffic but it looks like this is a good one.
Suggestion: I think it would be a good idea if you told us how much you actually sell your cars for to see if you're getting any money back. Just a 30 second clip at the end.
As you stated never understood the x6, size of x5 but without the practicality or space, no wonder it was not a success, just looks all wrong proportions to me.
Bought one new in 2009. Tragic mistake. Fit and finish were terrible. Loads of interior squeaks and rattles. Front fog lights kept falling off probably because the car had a really hard ride. The boot struts failed in the first year and the car always had water ingress from somewhere. This was never resolved. At 32,000 miles the automatic transmission packed up. Took over three months of back and forth with BMW to get rid of it. Marked the end of buying any German cars for me.
Time hasn’t changed my opinion about this car styling
Beautiful car, overtime I’ve come to really get over my disdain for these. I think it was because in the US we got the two least reliable engines, N62, N54 and M 🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️?…but I guess at that time the X5 also was not the best but it did get the 3 L diesel which the X6 didn’t get. I always stare at these when I see them on the road and there aren’t a ton….. you can get them for really cheap but they are beat down with like 22’s….👌💯
Good car Mat quite fancy an X6
The dining room table used to be kept on the balcony of the Iranian Embassy just before the SAS hostage rescue apparently! 🤷🏻♂️
The same in Liverpool, everyone went to the same school, at the same time as one of the Beatles, or had a relative who lived next door to one of them! 😄
With that gear shifter it will be a ZF 8 speed more than likely! :) (I could be wrong) Talking of card reader on poppy appeals, this year is the first year I have actually seen card readers and QR codes to pay 😂😂😂😂
