Hiya, Hoovie! I bought my TT from Copart at $1000 in TN and had it trailered to Oklahoma City. I sold the Bug ,inja my last project to fund this one. My 2003 225 Quattro is need of a TON of love, but it's getting every bit of it and literally coming back to life.
A manual TT is probably the only Audi I'd consider owning. I get the vibe that the car was owned by a kid who was slowly destroying it one mod at a time until the bank came in and rescued it.
I remember when these first came out, there was a problem with one of the body styles, I can’t remember if it was the hard top or convertible, where there was some weird aero issue that caused the rear to lift. Audi ended up recalling all of them and adding rear spoilers to all of them. It’s kind-of hard to believe that these first came out in 1998. I thought for sure they came out later than that. I really think it’s a shame Audi discontinued these, I always thought they were cool and they really aged well- design-wise.
I never understood why you would want to purchase anything other than a manual. Why would anyone want to drive a sports car with an auto is beyond me. Unless they just can't handle a clutch no matter how hard they try. And no, tiptronic, and or flappy paddle nonsense is not a manual. lol
This is a much needed return to form. I can't relate to the supercars and 1.8 million house but I do own a boxster and this is close enough to get me to click. Keep the actual hoopties coming
PLEASE do aftermarket intake/ignition/exhaust/tuning on this, you're paying the same but these are absolutely Legos to modify, so much fun! This deserves to live!

@@cwheeler42 Yea, currently have the transmission out to replace the slave cylinder. I don't know why Audi decided to put that in the damn bell housing! Put a full clutch kit in while I was there.

I love it. been my daily driver for all 3 yrs
So glad you've decided to fix this. They will appreciate in value as they begin to be removed from circulation. I suspect, because of these being affordable sports coupes, kids get a hold of them and destroy them. You can see evidence of this all over this poor thing. You picked it up with your compression and an intact valve train. In 5 years you won't regret this. I'd even spend the few extra dollars to take the boost management back to 100% stock. Great find!
It’s not leaking oil, it’s sweating from all power it has. By the way, Hoovie, you are my master. You bring every day joy and awareness which car not to buy.
I have a 2005 TT 3.2L VR6 Quattro with DSG and Audi SLine tuning. My Daily Driver. Best car I have ever owned and for 17 years the lowest cost of ownership car I have ever owned. Just this last year I decided to do some work on it to keep it in good nick. Had some sun damaged parts repainted, new headliner, replaced the instrument cluster for the dreaded Red Screen issue common to Mk I TTs- replaced the headlights and one tail light that had a chip in it. Had a new fuel pump installed and replaced the AC compressor. It runs and looks like new. And still goes like a demon with that paddle shifting DSG, which has been bullet proof. The 05 TT 3.2 DSG Quattro is the perfect sports car. Naturally aspirated. Great low end torque and no lag. Practical, in that I have carried lumber home in it because of its load space. Handles like a dream, especially on twisty turning roads. Nimble. Not the fastest thing on the road, but plenty fast enough for me. But it shifts faster and more perfectly than any manual car. And it has a distinctive style that is unlike any other sports car out there. ( most sports cars these days look like modern tennis shoes. ) The interior holds up well because it was made out of superior materials and everything that looks like metal is Real aluminum. Not chromed plastic. It’s a design triumph. I love mine.
@@roccoracer Congrats. What all did it need? Does your timing chain show signs of wear or stretch? I replaced my instrument cluster but there’s a place where you can send the cluster that will install a full color screen with access to the built in diagnostics.
@christopherpardell4418 The only major issue with mine is that the clutches would slip when the transmission got hot. My chains were in spec at -5 on both. I have replaced the clutches, transmission speed sensor, and the timing chains and guides.
@@roccoracer hmm- I wonder if the clutch issue is from prior owners doing that “launch control” thing. In my 05 DSG they had disabled that as it caused problems with the transmission. The only issue I have ever had with the DSG was about 2 years in when it suddenly started shifting weird. I thought, “oh this is going to be expensive.” But it turned out to be a $40 brake light switch had gone bad. The switch is how the DSG knows if you are braking and without that input it could not always correctly guess which gear to preselect. Did you replace the chains yourself or have someone else do it? If the latter, how much did that run? I’ve got 132k on mine and it’s still in spec but I would like to know what I’m in for when I replace them. Also curious, Is yours a US import? Do you know if it has a speed limiter installed? On the 05 DSG I discovered one day that my dash screen started flashing 127. It wouldn’t stop until I turned the car off and then on again. Came to find out that the speed limiter flashes the top speed you were going when it engages. The European versions don’t have this and can go up to 150. Back in 07 there were guys who would remove that chip or re-program it, but it’s apparently in the transmission, and I decided I wanted to keep the car in SLine spec. I don’t need to go any faster than that, anyway.
The Haldex (Rear Diff) won't spin the wheels without the car running. There is a specific VW procedure for testing the rear diff nad haldex. It is possible that it doesn't need a rear diff.

Had a 2003 TTQR 225 hp 6 speed. Terrific car in so many respects. Yes, not in the top 10 for 0 to 60, but this is more of a touring roadster, not for competition. Still, tremendous low end torque and I never felt "lackluster" below 50 mph. Impressive resistance to understeer. And the interior design is so exquisite. Sadly had to give it up due to downsizing from 2 to 1 car.
I have the same thing, in ocean blue with the blue leather interior. Dealing with an electrical gremlin now, but super fun car to drive and plenty fast enough to get a bunch of points on my driver's license.
This car is perfect for some mods! Carbon fiber splitter, side skirts, spoiler, ect… cold air intake, custom suspension, exhaust, wheels everything! Everything needs replaced anyways! Forget trying to make it factory or just ok to drive on the road, make it really cool and fun!!!
Was an owner of a mk1 225qc for many years. Most of the 00s and early 10s. One of my favorite cars I've owned. After it was totaled in a freak engine fire. I kept lots of aftermarket and stock parts, that I either saved or were never installed in hopes of buying another one day. But I've been considering getting rid of the parts. If you see this, Hoovie, I'd like the parts to go to a good home. Off the top of my head, del rio stage 3 kit, KW clubsports, the OE sport side skirts, ABT wing, seats. some rare modshack/TTstuff parts, oz wheels, spacers, and interior parts. a bunch more goodies that I'm forgetting too.
I have a 2004 TT roadster in ocean blue with the blue leather interior, and it looks great. Very similar specs to this one - 1.8l turbo, twin intercoolers, 6 speed manual, quattro, less than 70k miles. Bought it new... Unfortunately it's got some electrical gremlins to sort out that just appeared this summer. Fun car to drive, but a convertible in central Pennsylvania is just not very practical...

I had a 2000 TT and loved it. Wasn't a much of a project as this one though. I agree that these will be a future classic and have good aftermarket support along with a great enthusiast community. I think it's worth the $3800 in repairs.
I had this little car ,year 2001, just few months ago transmission broke and I sold it.Bought it just for fun, it was third car at home but I liked it so much I did 30000 km in little more than one year.Awesome, cheap to run on fuel and repairs and looking much more expensive than it really is..
Why I still have a 1999 Mustang GT Convertible It has never needed anything in 25 years and still runs 4.7 seconds to 60mph the quality over time is unreal.

I was so crazy about this car, found one locally with 75k miles, got inside and saw the failing interior and said "Nope!" I love the design but it just felt fragile. Suspension clunks, falling headliner, lots of scrapes and scratches everywhere. I'd definitely jump at a TT RS as I think they're gonna go up in value over time. Enzo / McLaren fast. Insanely great and available with a 6M too!
And the worst to work on surely... why can't they ever make a car that holds up? They clearly know how to make an awesome car when it rolls out of the factory but man they turn to trash so fast.
@@samoksner The one I looked at had the sexy red interior too! I was so stoked to go look at it but unfortunately - or fortunately - too reasonable to buy it. There is a reason they depreciate so fast. I think if it was only a weekend garage queen it would be right for someone. But Yeah, even with the low miles it would have been $2k ro $3k to get it all sorted.
@@samoksner 1.8t is easy to work on. I could swap an engine in and out in a day. I do prefer the FWD TT to the AWD model because the clutch slave cylinder is external so makes it easy to swap out or bleed. The AWD (Quattro) model is internal and you have to remove the transmission to access it.

Hi Tyler, I have a TT like this one, 1.8 turbo quattro, I've tuned mine and it's just under 300 bhp very fun and great to drive, just wanted to give you a bit of advice on yours, you will find second hand parts are normally very easy to come by as most 1.8t parts will fit your car, like the sump for example as long as you get one with the hole for the level sender, any one will work, also with the quattro system, it won't work if you have ESP faults so the rear diff might not need replacing, you might just need to cure the faults, they fail sometimes but it's not super common, so check it out really well before you just say it's knackered, standard Audi wheels are normally easy to come by, they are 5x100, 18s look really good on them, a set of good quality coilovers would be your best bet for your suspension problems then you can set the height you want, the exhaust on there is a bit rubbish, get in contact with Milltek, see if they can sort you out with an exhaust, as for the little valve hanging around by the coil packs, someone has done what's called an N249 delete, basically taken away a load of vacuum lines, the vacuum reservoir and a few other bits, if you Google N249 delete, then get Wizard to reverse it, would love to see you do this up as I think they are underappreciated, also I know quite a bit about them so need some advice, hit me up 👍🏻

That's true but it doesn't sound like Hoovie's going to be doing any of the work. Initially sounded like he was going to polish it himself, but then said it was going to need a detailing (as in he's hiring it done). Guess we'll see how broke he is if he does it or his hired gun.
Best spec TT. I love mine. Excited to see how this one goes for him. White over blue 225 coupe is pretty rare!
It's just a Volkswagen Golf IV with a different body, which is why it's cheap to maintain.
@@SauceIncan The problem in North America is that these cars are not really sought after in antique car shows, hence, taking their value down.
I also have a Avus Silver/red interior 2002 ALMS TT, here in Canada, Its now my daily, been in the family since 2012
Hiya, Hoovie! I bought my TT from Copart at $1000 in TN and had it trailered to Oklahoma City. I sold the Bug ,inja my last project to fund this one. My 2003 225 Quattro is need of a TON of love, but it's getting every bit of it and literally coming back to life.
WARNING! Carly is a SUBSCRIPTION, not a tool you buy and have forever. You need to pay up annually.
A manual TT is probably the only Audi I'd consider owning. I get the vibe that the car was owned by a kid who was slowly destroying it one mod at a time until the bank came in and rescued it.
This and the ttrs with the 5cylinder. Those are basically mini r8s
And no, tiptronic, and or flappy paddle nonsense is not a manual. lol
@@brian5o Youre right about the aero issue, and recall to add the spoiler. I remember when that happened too.
Don’t forget about the Audi A4 B5
This is a much needed return to form. I can't relate to the supercars and 1.8 million house but I do own a boxster and this is close enough to get me to click. Keep the actual hoopties coming
This is the old school Hoovie. Restore this hoopty. 😂
Love the ending. Wizard you old dog. “Yeah April can pay whenever”. Tyler however gets screwed hard before being aloud to leave pmsl. Love it.
PLEASE do aftermarket intake/ignition/exhaust/tuning on this, you're paying the same but these are absolutely Legos to modify, so much fun! This deserves to live!
"Well guys, after 7 bad engines I think I'm going to have to write this one off"
If the wizard had calmly drinked that liquid and then said "Yep, that's urine", that would have been hilarious.
We were being trolled. He threw that in there off camera ahead of time.
Drinking old Gatorade from a car that's been sitting in the sun is still pretty damn gross.
Urination bob
Obviously staged for a bit of patented Car Wizard humor!
Drinked?
I got mine cheap and im still fixing it lol. Bought for $1500 thought it wouldnt be too bad. 2 years and $7500 later and its still a project lol. I love the car though.
Sounds like my A3. No car as expensive as a cheap Audi. 🤣
Just give it a little bit of that “hawk tuah”
@@cwheeler42 Yea, currently have the transmission out to replace the slave cylinder. I don't know why Audi decided to put that in the damn bell housing! Put a full clutch kit in while I was there.
I bought a 2006 225hp 6 speed manual 3yrs ago for $5000 (australian), I spent about 8k doing preventative work, it has 250Km on it, and is perfect, doesnt use any fluids. very fast and sticks to the road like glue. best of all ..very little electronics to go wrong. I love it. been my daily driver for all 3 yrs
@@Eskay1206 yea its really a perfect car when it works. I love driving mine as well.
Great find!
I have a 2004 TT 225. The bolt down coil are older versions. The red diverter valve looks like a Forge. Got 250,000 miles on it.

It’s not leaking oil, it’s sweating from all power it has. By the way, Hoovie, you are my master. You bring every day joy and awareness which car not to buy.
I would def listen to the song “Dupe - Kontrolla” in that car 😅😅
This looks like a good candidate for Hoovie to get back into his diy roots.
Looking forward to the TT tow test!
Lol can't believe Tyler did the "Hawk Tuah. Spit on that thing" joke.
😂😂😂 same
Lol so did the wizard. Too bad she doesn't get a royalty every time someone said it she be a millionaire.
We know when it was filmed now
What do you call two of these cars parked beside each other?
-A pair of TT's
That explains why I'm so attracted to these cars.
There was an article or an ad in a car magazine back in the day, which said something to the effect of "show me your TT's"
Are they oily TT's like his?
“Hawk Tuah” killed me… 😂😂😂 Wizard…

I picked up a 2004 TT 3.2 DSG about 7 months ago. I am brining mine back to life.
Now this is the kind of stuff I enjoy watching. Always overly expensive cars have become old on RUclips.
The Haldex (Rear Diff) won't spin the wheels without the car running. There is a specific VW procedure for testing the rear diff nad haldex. It is possible that it doesn't need a rear diff.
Probably the haldex controller

Hooray!!! Tyler I've missed these kind of videos from you so much. Didn't watch your last "Financial ruin" video. I'm going back to watch this one again. Thanks for taking a perspective step to the side and keep being you.
Brilliant to see you going back to your roots and buying a real Hooptie again - love it!!
A hawk-tuah joke from *both* Hoovie and the Wizard. My life is now complete. 😂
I love seeing you back to rescuing old Hoovies! And I always loved TTs so looking forward to this one's journey.
Nice to see Hoovie going back to some affordable classics!
Always wanted a TT, had no idea they came with a blue interior! Hopefully it gets cleaned up, can’t wait to see it
I have a 2004 TT roadster in ocean blue with the blue leather interior, and it looks great.
Glad you are saving the TT. You will be enshrined in the TT savior hall of fame along side Sarah N Tuned. They are definitely cars worth saving, always wanted one and still can't afford a good one yet, but someday. Good luck with this one and I will be waiting on updates in future videos.
Hoovie’s back to his roots… LOVE IT!!!
Im hoing to get my mustang gt soon and ive heard its super reliable
Yes! These are the best episodes by far. Cars from early 2000's (and 90's!) are the best. ;) Loved these TT, always torn between open air convertible or the sexy hardtop though!
No one is a better expert at losing money on a car than you Tyler 😁. I bought two TTs brand new and loved them so I understand the attraction.
I love the wizard you don't get to leave without paying a bill but he will just mail the bill to April I got to love this guy😅
Tells us something about Mr. Hoovie.
It's also part of the fun drama of the videos.. Viewers enjoy it when Hoovie is 'taken to the office'.

Good luck Hoovie--I think you are going to need lots of good luck with this Audi. I'm guessing it was only 1,000.00 for a bunch of reasons. But perhaps I'm wrong!! Enjoy it!!!!
Tyler--There is a reason Wizard is so happy to see you drive in with this car. Wait until you get his bill--YIKES!!!!
Keep this type of stuff going, good old days of bringing reasonable yet somewhat current vehicles in and having Wizard ring them up in his office.
Like to get Hoovie back on the right track
I was so crazy about this car, found one locally with 75k miles, got inside and saw the failing interior and said "Nope!"
I love the design but it just felt fragile.
"It's riptide blue" hahahaha
