I was ok then I ask you this and that, doc that day was like act normally just don't carry heavy stuff, walk around take it easy!! I was just wondering why?? Hello friend. I am not quite 24 hours post radical hysterectomy. I was under the impression I had to sleep semi-sitting up. Needless to say, I haven’t slept at all. I am primarily a left side sleeper. I too wish the surgeon would have gone over permitted sleep positions. I definitely would have gotten at least some kind of rest. Now that it’s 6:15am. I’m going to try to maneuver my sore body to my side and pray for sleep. Now I just need this dry mouth thing to go away. Oh the joys of womanhood.

    Great advice , however I am three weeks into abdominal hysterectomy . I was fit and active pre surgery , normal weight .
    I have to say side lying was NOT possible for me . I’m moving , doing 2 mins of a light mobility . Been doing light gardening and tidying the house but side lying was too painful even with pillows until week two and a half . At three weeks post surgery I am managing to sleep on my side . Please don’t worry if you can’t lay on your side in the first few weeks . It’s amazing when you can .

    5 days post-op from a robotic hysterectomy. My procedure uncovered other issues, so I ended up with the initial surgical plan PLUS adhesion lysis AND an appendectomy. Day 3 I stayed up all night and fought to get sleep that 4th day (literally was a few hours shy of 48 hours of being awake). I miss my bed and this recliner only helps me sleep so much. THIS video is exactly what I was looking for! I am sick of spending 15+ minutes struggling to maneuver out of bed. Needless to say if I feel the urge to pee I have to go ahead and start struggling my way out of bed. If you have any advice on expelling the remaining surgical gas, PLEASE tell me everything!!!! I have expelled a TON and my BMs have been going great, but I have a few gas pockets in my abdominal muscles and beneath my hemidiaphragm, causing so much pain!!

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  3 месяца назад +1

      @sarahnelson8794 Hi there, I'm sorry you've had a really tough time, yes I hear you loud and clear, gas can be so painful post op! This will improve over time with healing and increased mobility and there are some things that can help. Exercises to relieve gas pain ruclips.net/video/WYzht18q9eY/видео.htmlsi=AXfYIno1pw_-eMGw and also reducing gas producing foods see here ruclips.net/video/x8DjyHh-NcA/видео.htmlsi=3oBgX7fHrlwMA6M2. Warm packs over the abdomen (not too hot) can provide relief, warm drinks, and there's a medication called Buscopan that's fantastic for relief, often available over the counter (contains the active ingredient hyoscine butylbromide) just check with your pharmacist/doctor before taking. Let me know how you go and wishing you all the very best for your recovery 🌻🙏🏽

    Hi Michelle, You have such a lovely personality.
    I'm 75 and getting a hysterectomy and a vaginal rectocele at the same time - two different surgeons. My surgeons just sent me a pre/post operation instruction sheet. What worries me most besides the pain, the possibility of hemoranging is, they want me to bring my Will on the day of the operation. Is this normal?

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  Год назад +1

      @Diane Payne I’m sorry to read this and I’m really not sure why they want you to bring in your will on the day of the surgery. This request would worry most people! It’s something I have never heard of in the past. Have you asked why they are asking you to do this and if for some reason this is a high-risk surgery for your body to undertake? Is there some reason you’re concerned about hemorrhage? Most women are assessed before surgery regarding their pre-op risks and they are asked to cease any medications that may increase the risk of post-op bleeding prior to surgery. It may help you to phone the surgeon and discuss this further with his nurse or see him again prior to surgery so that you feel comfortable going into the procedure. Wishing you all the best! 🙏

      @@michellephysio Thank you so much for replying.The surgeon who's doing the hysterectomy is very unapproachable. I've tried to reach out to her but her answers are very curt.
      The reason I mentioned the possibility of hemorrhaging is because
      on her pre/post operative instructions, she mentiones that "if you start hemorrhaging after you get home - go down to the nearest emergency room. I don't know how somebody whose hemorrhaging, would have the strength to drive themselves down to the emergency room.
      I didn't ask her about bringing my Will; I assume it's because of my age.
      The other surgeon who's doing the rectocele repair is lovely. But every time I ask her questions about that operation she says she can't really make comments on it because she's not the primary doctor.
      My operation is December 8th. Gulp! Thank you once again for taking the time to write to me. ❤️

    I started off on the back sleeping position then when I felt better (1 week after surgery) I started the side sleeping with pillow support. Just before my 2 week mark I managed some how to flip to my belly and I moved and I really felt it (1 sharp stabbing pain), now I'm just sore again and scared to sleep =(

    I sleep with a pillow between my legs every night for my low back. I just had a MASSIVE ovarian cyst and my right ovary removed. Going go try sleeping on my side tonight because sleeping sitting up isn't going well anymore. And back sleeping is super hard even with the pillow under my knees. Thank you so much for this.

    I had a laraospic hysterectomy plus prolapse surgery plus mesh put in the vagina to put that all back together. The problem im having is its very difficult to sit becasue of the stitches in my vagina area and the stitches in my stomach make it uncomfortable to lay on my side even with a piĺlow and Ive been laying on my back just like you said with the pillows under my legs but now that is making my lower back hurt any suggestions for sleeping? I had this surgery on 1/09/24, and I have a long way to go to recover. When I lay on my side with the pillow, I have a burning sensation, and it feels like it's pulling at where the stitches are. If you could provide any suggestions.
    Thank you

      @RPJ696 Hello and thank you for your question. Pillows under knees is usually the best position for relieving pelvic pain and low back discomfort post surgery. Part of the issue is immobility - regular movement helps. Some women find that wearing large support briefs that cover the whole lower abdomen can provide relief (avoiding tight waist band). Very high waisted briefs can be helpful too. Ensure the mattress is not too soft. Gentle mobility exercises are also helpful for relieving low back pain see here ruclips.net/video/Yw9BXz_i38Y/видео.htmlsi=9T5JB63dfEgRvOP1 I hope you find this info helpful and wishing you a comfortably, speedy recovery Michelle 🙏

      Tips - take loose clothing and big pants to wear home. Make sure you have a higher chair with arms to help yourself get uo and down. Have some stool softener medication available. When travellng in the car as a patient have a pillow or cushion ready to support your tummy. The sleeping advice with the pillows is great. Learn the getting in and out of bed technique in hospital. Have support at home to do this in the first few days. For later on there are a couple of really good yoga and pilates instructors who have experienced abdominal surgery themselves and guide you through some very gentle exercises to get your tummy muscles active. I also walked as much As I could. Use paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly in thr first couple of weeks. Good luck

    After how many days can we sleep sideways after tah and bos?

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  Год назад +1

      @Namrata Shrestha after TAH you’ll probably find it uncomfortable to sleep on your side during the first week or so. Sometimes a pillow can support the belly to help sidelying position for resting after a week or so however this is often quite an individual preference according to how well this position is tolerated.
