    I knew that my e-Niro 64kW 2021 shared the same electrics, but its surprising how similar they are. It all adds to the interest in watching these videos... Absolutely fascinating!

    Your video shows the reason why modern cars are written off over a minor shunt . It will be interesting to see how many hours you have spent on the rebuild as a cost + parts against the cars value befor it's shunt or are we being had over by the insurance companies .😎

      Insurance repairs would be new genuine parts I expect and that's why the costs can spiral.

    As a ‘one man band’ and fairly amateur(?) you are doing a fine job. One can imagine the labour cost for a dealership repair!! That, and all new parts from Hyundai (they don’t allow dealerships to fit non-Hyundai parts) would easily make this vehicle an un-economic repair.
    Any insurance company will have paid out the minimum, increased the risk (for the insured party) and recovered some expense from the sale of the “wreck” - even though it is clearly repairable.

    Quite unusual to see a Kona with a heat pump, because it wasn't standard even on the top level trim for very long. I reckon only about 1 in 20 has one.

      I didn't know that. I thought because it's top spec version they all had it.

      @@grouchthatbarx Up to the facelift the top spec Premium SE had it, but after that the top spec was "Ultimate" and the heat pump was made an option to keep below the £40k limit for the government grant

    Getting stuck in at last..... Watching with interest here...... It's clear the Kona is much more advanced in it's tech than the Leaf!

      I feel that Nissan should have added liquid battery cooling in the second gen Leaf

      @@grouchthatbarx Yes, I agree Grouch. Nissan let evolution on the Leaf slip somewhat. They sat on their hands and watched while the likes of Hyundai while they rolled out their Mk1 Ioniq and Kona.... and let's face it, these were better EV's in a number of areas (efficiency for example) than the Leaf was/is. I believe the Leaf has now ceased production... with a newly developed replacement in the pipeline....

    You've proved why these disposable EVs are difficult and also dangerous to repair and why insurance companies are quick just to write off. Older ICE vehicles have a longer life which make them greener and eco friendly. Cheers!!

      Actually I have proved that you can repair an EV.. which part is more difficult than a ICE car? I have repaired both types of cars and they are very similar to repair. Also go on copart and see how many ICE vehicles have been written off. Your comment isn't logical and is definitely emotional.

      There are EVs with 500,000 miles on the clock, ICE cars are clapped out by 200,000 miles and need alot of work done on them to keep them going.

      Plenty of fossils are written off for exactly the same reasons - checkout 'Salvage Rebuilds' and see what they have repaired. Very similar sorts of damage.

      Grouch has *already* repaired his existing Leaf. This is his *second* insurance write-off EV repair. He hasn't "disposed" of either car. He is repairing them! Insurance companies are free to decide whether to write-off or repair vehicles. It is entirely their choice. Whatever they do, it is *us* the consumer who ultimately foots the bill......

      That's good for him !! He may have the time plus he has this youtube channel so he can make money on the back of doing it but for the general public insurance companies would write off an EV for any miniscule damage as it's not economically viable plus fire explosion thermal runnaway risk
