Yet another f100! At 13 I love this channel
YAY!!! ANOTHER LONG VIDEO!!!
Dalton doesn't like those1964 galaxie 500 xl ether haha
Will we still love pull barn garage even tho they Ignored my galaxie comments jk like 1 Million comments coming in per second
Check out Second Skin Audio. I Guarantee youll like the stuff they have!
57:31
Waving a stick around and yelling, "I can fix anything" is truly the greatest feeling in the world
Jeremy Clarkson feelings
"For a brick, he flew pretty good!" Favorite quote from halo 2. Awesome video as always!
Good what? Oh, flew pretty well! Comments courtesy of Save the Adverb
Got to love that quote from Sgt. Major Johnson. 😄
That string wrap idea was genius. Never thought about doing that
EDIT: Wanted to add that Tom has been a great addition to the junkyard Digs family.
seeing tom paint that car was a joy! im a professionally trained painter who learned at a large car manufacturer and 99% of people i see painting on the internet should absolutely not be allowed to hold a paint gun. Tom's technique was immaculate!
great character too
Working with Tom is immensely hilarious. Love it. Keep it up
"we may not know what we're doing, but at least it'll look like crap" 🤣🤣 tom collab vids are the best
Tom is a damn hoot. "We may not know what we're doing, but at least it'll look crappy."
As a bole barn garage aficionado, I approve not only the paint work but also the Dalton outfit.
The fuzzy side of velcro tape works well for window felts. Install it in the channels with some weather strip adhesive.
I was 16 in 1971 and learned to drive stick in a black version of that exact truck. It was the 6 cyl with three on the tree. This brings back great memories.
I mean, I just saw a Tesla swapped powertrain in a 1959 Big Fin Cadillac go at auction. She had 3x the regular amount of batteries because of her size, so 600+ miles on one charge, and 0 to 65 in 3 seconds in a 5 ton car.
Everyone here wants a FORD V8,
But I think a 300 cid straight 6 would go through the air a lot better.
Thanks for the hug Mook, we all needed that.
Poor car
I wish my 300 inline six would go through the air better. I just finished an 800 mile round trip drive at about 75mph and WOT the entire way.
A 300 Ford 6, please! The late model ones with fuel injection and a 5 speed go well while sipping fuel. AND- Tom is cool! Good cheer overcomes all adversity.
I love every episode but I love that I learn something new each episode whether it's from Kevin, Tom, Angus, or Dalton keeps me coming back every time!
Tom coming out and quoting CW McCall is priceless!!
I have a 58. Putting a 292 in it out of a 60 grain truck. Bought when I was 18 now 44 hasn't run in 20+ years. If I have my way this is the year. Keep em coming.
My 59 had a 272. Bought a kit at NAPA to run oil from a plug in block and split to both valve trains by plugging into the hollow shaft. V notched front of the valve covers.
That is one of the most beautiful F-100 Truck designs I've ever seen. I would modernize the suspension, and swap the engine, but that's pretty much it.
I learned a lot from guys like Tom….you can tell that man is walking wisdom.
I had a 1996 Chevy Tahoe with a 4.3 Vortec engine that done the same thing. I took it to the dealer to fix it, Come to find out it had low fuel pressure. They put a new fuel filter and fuel pump in it. Keep up the good video's man, Nice truck..
Your channel, Dalton & a bunch of others are therapy for me. You taught me alot sad i love how respectful & funny you are. ❤😂
An old trick we used to do with the wing windows was put a quarter or two behind the latch to tighten her up.
Old matchbooks also worked well for the folks who couldn’t afford the quarters. 😂
@@Mrhalligan39 Thanks to inflation everybody can afford quarters now, they are worth about a cent.
@@jeffreysalzman1497 Back when they had cars with wing windows, you could buy a gallon of gas for a quarter. That’s a lot of inflation.
I have a 1980 Ford f100 stepside thats my daily driver and I've been fixing her up. A ton of butchered wiring, fixed the timing, improved the carb, all learned from(and usually done while) watching your videos. I actually just made a stack for it from a flex pipe and a glass pack 👍😎
I bought one of those brand new, my first new vehicle, I was 20. 300, 4 speed. Put some 8" Western wheels on it and had it custom pinstriped by hand, it was cool!
As always, this was great fun to watch. 2 cents on the "shrink-wrap-foam inside cavities won't keep moisture and therefore not rust": it doesn't work. The capillary created by the gap between the shrink-wrapped foam and the body draws the water in and holds it there firmly - right next to the metal. Some French car manufacturer had already tried this in a similar form in the 70s or 80s and thus created legendary rusty cars straight from the factory. If this is to be kept rust-free in any way, the cavities must first be generously flooded with something like Fluidfilm (I'm not affiliated to them in any way). Of course, the plastic must be able to tolerate the fat introduced to the cavities.
Good to know!
Fluid Film is a fantastic product. I treat the underside of my cars yearly with it and I've yet to see any new rust. I really like the smell of Fluid Film too😂
I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure shrink wrapped foam is a lot better than plain foam, but that'll still want to trap water.
5:35 I love my bullnose. 4.9L 4-speed. Such a damn good old truck.
I love that Tom referenced the song classified when we find the truck for the first time that was low-key kind of funny because I thought I was one of the very few people who knew about that song so shout out to Tom 6:37
Next thing for this truck, swap to a 351 windsor or a 460 BBF. Make it all Ford and carburetored.
I'm with ya on that, hell maybe even a 302 👍
That truck really wants a 300-6
@@Tinker001 another excellent choice
Agreed with a CROWN VIC FRONT END
Ls
This videos get me going throughout the day. Nothing like some Junkyard digs!!!!
We need more Tom. He's a riot
Wish my wife would say that!
Tom needs his own channel or extensive collab! He reminds me of my uncle and every auto body/mechanics instructor wrapped in one. Lots of laughs. Hamms for life
As a fellow Fridge(side) owner”1960” I know the pain all too well of the interior noise and everything echoing due to lack of anything creature comfort wise in these trucks. I do like your 59 and I hope in the future you fix the blight that’s under the hood.
Tom's a great friend. Hope you pay him well for his services
I’m hoping there’s a part 2 where you get that truck running and starting well. Gorgeous truck though! Thanks Kevin
Really enjoyed the episode. Tom is a treat. Dalton IS the paint king. Thanks for taking us along.
I bet it has low fuel pressure. Probly a bad pump or regulator. Heat soak causes the fuel in the rail to vaporize, injecting gas gas is no good.
Check fuel pressure under all normal conditions. Normal to sligntly low when running, drops when key off. Or after parking hot, and fails a single restart, vent the test port. Should start fast, then. For hard start cold, try leaving the key on for awhile, without cranking, to build fuel pressure.
I'd say you are on the money. I was hoping they found the solution in the video.
I've been binging EVERY JYD video for the past week or so. It's so refreshing to just see plain work being done and knowledge being spread. Makes me really want to find an old 70s f100 for me and my dad to finally have as a project
Tom is pure gold, "v-8 powered garbage can"
Genius!
I've used the butyle rubber on Aluminum from the roofing portion of hardware store. It is FANTASTIC for the dampening AND heat reflection.
Yep, works great.
one great place to get sheets of raw material, like that plastic, is McMaster Carr, online marketplace and you know you're going to get good material as this is all they do.
Yep, I've never received a low quality item from McMaster. A phenomenal place to get stuff material and any industrial item imaginable fast.
just love how you and JR are polar opposite re carbs and injection.... btw im with you keep it simple
I love these old trucks. I have a 1960 f250 4x4. Its kind of a rare bird. It's been in the family for a long time. It's been passed down from my grandpa to my dad then to me. My dad shot at it with a bb gun when he was 5. Lol that would have been in 1969. She still starts right up but the needs a lot of work. I hope to get it back on the road soon. They are just to cool.
Sorry I missed ya. 3 weeks of cold and flu. Nice ride, slip side, big fender or my 08 f150 call the rusty bottom. Welcome to Wisconsin.
Thank you for everything you do I look forward to seeing your videos every week with you and thunderhead 289 as well add vise grip garage I learned so much from you 3 I know you hear this a lot but thank you so much and keep on making these videos
Hey Kevin.... another thing that works well for making interior pieces, dash panel pieces etc are truck mud flaps. They make some that one side is textured, other side is smooth... works very well.
A fun change of pace video. Loved all the Lincoln chatter. I have a Lincoln Town Car frame swapped Unibody Slick(side) that I need to see if there is any sound deadener behind the hastily installed leather panels. Great hack with the plastic sealed foam. Off to Lowe's this weekend!
Thanks for the inspiration Kevin & Tom.
When you and Angus passed the corvette, I lost it 😂
To see the previous owner, and his comment here is so awesome. It helps that billboard size brick, painted refrigerator white, build awesome character! As for the 3 slow 5 tuned port f.i., it brought me back to the late '90's when I had to trade my 1970 Malibu (because the 350 puked) for a 1987 Trans Am GTA, with the 5.7 Tuned Port Fuel Injection. It's truly fortunate for you 😂, that you couldn't hear me screaming at my phone whilst watching 😂. I went through the EXACTLY SAME THING and it was to the point I truly loved the GTA, but was contemplating burning it to the ground. I installed a "hyper chip" hoping to cure the problem. Nope. Inline fuel filter. Nope. Finally figured out that the fuel pump was weak; didn't quite have enough umpf to start the car; hence using starter fluid, continuously spraying, until the fuel pump can catch up. I priced out the cost of a new fuel pump, and the horrific job to change it, because it's in the tank, and opted for a Carb. swap. This entails purchasing the correct intake, because the angle of the intake runners on the TPI heads are at a different angle than the previous generation with carburetors. I also had to buy a clickity-clacker fuel pump, because there was no provision in the block for a mechanical fuel pump. I also had to buy an adjustable fuel regulator to reduce the pressure down to 7psi for the carburetor. I was stuck with the pump they had in store. I did miss the TPI, because of it's instant throttle response compared to the carburetor, but I am an old fashioned dude who prefers carbs.
To me, the less electronic garbage that ALWAYS ends up with issues of some kind, the better. I liked the Bosch fuel injection system in the 1980 Rabbit I had. Simple and never had any issues. I sold that Rabbit (still running and driving) with 504,000 miles on it!
Kevin, BEFORE YOU RIP OFF THE TPI, check the fuel line pressure, out of curiosity; and no, don't kill the cat!!😂😂 I know it's supposed to be between 41-47 Psi, but from experience I had a hard time starting at 42psi.
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing the next video! 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Back a long time ago when I owned a trucking company we decided to redo the interior on a 1976 GMC Astro semi. The guy that did it used cardboard from refrigerator packaging and shower wall material.. it came out absolutely minty
YES! Another video with Tom he sounds like a good guy to hang out with 😁
Girlfriend broke up with me an hour ago… this upload immediately made me happier
Good riddance, she did you a favor. there’s about 3.5 million of them to pick from. Hit the gym and keep your head up! 💪
Never seen you finish a project lol
Pretty cool truck actually. I don't even hate the swap, it just makes it more interesting.
This is all absolutely brilliant!! I love it when creative, functional, and cheap come together!!
I get you're from Iowa, as am I, but don't put ranch dressing on steak. Hard pass.
i do that all the time!
Another Iowan here, damn straight. Ranch belongs on salad, fries, burgers, chicken strips, wings, sometimes pizza, but sure as hell not fucking steak
Use franks instead lol😂
If the "rugs are secured at the seams you can lessen them by using a carpet comb to blend the edges together and hide the seam points the way they do in a house ( they use heat activated tape on the back side of the carpet to hold the seams together then comb the visble seam away.
Australian tip slow down Wind and Dust entry: first clean quarter vent glass, apply thinly petroleum jelly like vaseline on glass ONLY TO STOP adhesion. Now on rubber weatherstrip apply thinly silastic and close quarter vent.
For doors first clean rubber weatherstrip and clean the painted contact surface, apply thinly petroleum jelly like vaseline on painted surface ONLY TO STOP adhesion. Now on rubber weatherstrip apply thinly silastic RTV, CLOSE DOOR LEAVE A FEW HOURS TO CURE.
Truck is very cool, don't see many of the Ford Frigidaire's in my neck of the woods. Many years ago, (and I mean many) I was having similar hard start problem with my 56 F-100. I had bought it as a running 390-C6 combo, but it needed some work. I spent 2 summers finishing it, and it was a good runner in my senior year. Then it started.
The truck, intermittently, wouldn't re-fire after anything longer than a gas station stop. Acted just like that TPI deal but was a carbed FE with a 650 Holley on it. Overnight it was fine. Drive me nuts for over a month. I was solo and learning, and finally found it.
The ignition switch had an intermittent short in it, it would engage the starter, but when you release the key to the run position, it would kill all the power to everything connected to the engine. New ignition switch, problem solved. I doubt this was your issue, but I thought I would share it for others to learn from.
Hey now, there's plenty of good fuel injection setups! TPI isn't one of them though, especially when hacked together and missing half the sensors like this one is. A carburetor is definitely the way to go unless you feel like shelling out the cash for a Holley Sniper though.
I dunno man, I've seen a few LS swaps hacked together with truck computers, and half the sensors unhooked that were way too good.
@@ryurc3033 the key there is that it's an LS, not a finicky TPI system from the '80s. Modern systems are much less temperamental
Hey man I had to say that after watching all these years watching you hammer away with a pair of slip knot pliers I finally found a vintage 1930's pair I got from an old woman doing a swap out. I work in HVAC and like you those damn things come in handy when in a pinch! Keep trucking on friend, love the content as always!
I'm an actual audio engineer. What you did is not far off of some spaces I have treated. Yes I have completed very expensive spaces where they can afford the world class products. But I have also done some smaller studios where they just needed to deaden the vocal booth and prevent noise ingress on a budget. Granted we are dealing with mostly wooden structure but the process is mostly the same.
Good work guys!
I like how Tom was quoting the C.W.mccall song Classified when Kevin showed up, and it went right over his head. 😂
A legendary song for such a truck, Kevin really needs to “check it out”.
Just a suggestion how about finding a sound suppressing material for under the hood and making sure it’s heat resistant material to stop the tin sound!
Hey Kevin, I noticed the tach was not jumping while you were cranking. I had an old 88 K2500 that had that issue. I jumped the fuel relay system and it fixed the problem. I ended up setting up my own 30 amp relay switched on and off by key and hot in crank as well. Have fun with that Fortriac Or Forloret lol
Now please be sure and keep us in the loop on changing that over to a carburetor. It will be fun to watch just what has to be changed and just how challenging it will be.
I used speaker box fabric when I redid the head liner on my 89 Pontiac 6000 LE. I was blown away at how good it looked. I used it to recover the original headliner form after removing the old fabric off of it.
I would love to see more injection stuff on the channel, mainly because carbo stuff is waaay too easy for you guys. It was actually a breath of fresh air that you couldn't fix it in 5 sec. flat. and it is alot more relatable for us EU guys, since pretty much anything you find here is fuel injected. Love your channel and the crew!
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 as a Chevy guy I can't understand anybody putting a piece of crap 305 in anything 😂 even Louie Chevrolet with disapprove. I give a shout out to Tom for his excellent fabrication of that interior 👍 it looks really nice. I think you scared it into running with the brake clean 😂 you guys look like you had a blast at winter fest. The Corvette driver should be embarrassed to be passed by a pair of Barns🤘 this was one awesome video Kevin. Keep up the great work and the cool content 👍✌️🇺🇲
Tom is my favorite co-star! He’s the man!!! More Tom!!!!
The aerodynamic efficiency of a building. 🤣😂🤣
Absolutely love seeing a Fridge on the channel! Gave me a few ideas for my ‘60!
That shrink wrapped foam block looks very suspicious. 😂😂
I'm from the UK near London.ive been watching kevin and mòokes Chanel and episodes for years now I can remember the stretch limo they did. But got to say loving the work and rescue your doing on this truck it deserves it keep up the good work,
Please keep bringing this great content out for us to watch and thank you for keeping me entertained 😊
Genuinely enjoyed this episode, as do I all of them but a different pace of content. Keep it up!
I love this episode. Interior updates are never covered!
Tom is the man! Always get a laugh when he's helping out!
Super cool to see you stop in Menomonie! I've been going to Stout for 3 years and watching you for at least five. Excited to go to Chetek next year since I will be 21 then 😅
For insulation, i use the rolls of butyl self advesive duct insulation. Cheap, works great, and available at any home improvement/supply store.
I actually love this truck, can't wait to see more!
Yall inspired me on this video to finally do the interior on my 76 f250. Gave me alot of ideas. Thanks
Your videos never fail to make me happy. Thank You!
I pulled up to the regular pump and Harold Sykes and his kid come out
' I've seen better stuff in junkyards, where'd you ever get that truck?'
'Thats a long story Harold'
Tom and I have the same humor
watching directly from Brazil, I'm addicted to your videos.
Im always thrilled every time i see a new video pop up from here. Thanks man!
By far my favorite RUclips channel, I always look forward to seeing a new video. Honestly instead of putting a carb on that engine I would put a 302 or 351 ford in it.
As much as I enjoy learning about carbies, looks *are* important... And the top end of that engine, with the Pontiac badge on it looks amazing. It would be really interesting to see you get that EFI working sweet (If possible) instead of another 4 barrel and pie pan aircleaner. I've had a few beers about it and for whatever my opinion's worth, I think it would make an interesting video (or three)
Upon initial opening of the hood and seeing the TPI, I thought, "oh shxx, this ain't gonna end well!" What a pos they are, but then again.... you got home w/o a tow truck! Wish the winter weather wudda come thru and made for a better snowmobile outing, but it looked quite fun anyway! Fun video, brother....an hour well-spent! A+++++
Thanks Doc!!
Angus, Tom, and Mook in the same video? We can only be so lucky!
Thank you for making this video! So much useful information. I need to do this to my 95 Dakota
Tom is a legend, Everybody needs a mate like Tom 😂😂😂stoney
reasons why i love this channel number 1: "For a brick he flies pretty good"
Really like the Pole Barn Garage reference....JYD & PBG are my 2 favorite car channels. Also, thanks for pronouncing Chetek the right way....lots of peeps think like the CH is Choo choo.
Definitely need to do a video on the motor swap on the fridge!! Great stuff man love it
I like the mindset about using similar materials instead of specific "automotive" stuff. My roommate has reptiles and has encountered the same thing, where the specific "reptile" branded stuff is much more expensive than the identical non-reptile stuff.
I like the 59 and 60 Fords. Lots of good interior tips on this episode.
Look at how small the Mississippi is up there! It's waaaaaaay more huger down here in Louisiana!
Glad Tom is teaching you well
Tom did a great paint job on that truck, plus gave it a nice interior design look 👌.
Tom is a character and i love it!
This is perfect! Im definitely gonna use some of these budget tips on the truck im doing on my channel right now. Thanks!
Yay outstanding Kevin enjoyed this one a lot!!!!!!!
fun fact my ex gfs dad threw me into the bridge in wabasha when we were out tubing on her boat 😂 used to have a ton of fun out on that portion of the river
