I owned a 72 Gremlin back in 79 and was amazed by the Chrysler transmission, Ford starter, solenoid, and various GM parts all rolled up in the Gremmy. Luckily it did not have the V-8 I would have killed myself. Handled like a tank, literally!

I'm 66, had a massive heart attack 3 years ago. I would suggest you find some groups or just a few friends and get out more, I have breakfast with a "Golden Oldies" group every Friday and a Veteran group on Saturday. Helps keep me sane and we help each other alot. Good luck
Ive struggled with understanding wiring diagrams and have been working real hard at work to get better at it. I know what you explained was a pretty simple system, but i actually understood both your explanations and the diagram. Thanks for that very small confidence boost!!
I had one of those, dark blue with factory orange shag carpet. With brown leather and cloth seats. The engine started to sound just like yours when I traded it in, along with $2,000 for a 1991 Rally Vandura 2500 GMC conversion van. Very nice van too. 350cid w/400 trans. Posi rear axle Had 62,000 original miles, and I put 75,000 more on it before giving it to a friend before I moved to North Pole, Alaska.
Love your videos! But can you maybe put a compressor on your audio? I enjoy watching in the background but if I put it loud enough to hear you guys talking, whenever you turn over an engine it's LOUD AS HECK! A compressor will bring those spikes in volume back down to a reasonable level. Just a request. :) Keep up the good work!
14:14 I just brought a 77 Buick LeSabre back home to Indiana from Atlanta last week and had the oil pressure regulator assembly depart from the filter adapter. I was able to catch it quickly and pulled over before any damage was done, but these parts don't exactly sit on store shelves anymore. Luckily had a friend in the Buick community who loaned me a regulator to get home. I recommend anyone who drives something with an external oil pump like the Buick and AMC V8s to keep a spare oil pump kit in the trunk. I plan on safety wiring my new regulator to keep it from backing out again.
Hey Kevin, I spoke with Dalton a few days ago on a comment. I told him about an event in Southern Missouri called the hundred acre wood. It's a rally race and a really good time. If you can swing it, you guys should come down to Dalton's to replace the motor in the impala, and then come to the race near by. It would be great to meet everyone, the races are March 15-16. Look up the Hundred Acre wood Rally if you want to know more. Love the show guys, keep up the good work.
I took my old Wagoneer and swapped the gas tank out; the tank from an '86 Ramcharger fit between the frame rails in place of the spare tire, with about 1/2 inch to spare along the sides.
Back in the mid 80s, I did my Eagle Scout community service project doing repairs to the pews in my church. The parish warden (in charge of repairs and maintenance in the church building) was a very sweet older gentleman who had a Jeep Wagoneer. It was older, but IMMACULATE! I have loved the Wagoneer ever since, and have always seen the Grand Cherokee as a sad replacement. I'd love to find a Wagoner, or even an old Cherokee, that hasn't been beat to death and super rusty. I'd much rather have one of these that a modern car filled with electronics. My daily commute is only 2 minutes, but I could pack it up to go camping, fishing, pull a small boat, etc. It also helps that I work in a NAPA Auto Parts store, and I've been working on cars for YEARS! We have lots of guys looking for parts for CJs, Wranglers, and Cherokees, but but not Wagoneers.
I love the buena vista auto sales plate in the back ground 15:00. If you buy from them in storm lake your gonna need to fix some crap before you drive it.
I recently discovered your channel and I have such an interest in this stuff but have barely held a wrench. You guys seem happy and like you like to have fun and like working with each other. I love the patience too.
I don't like commenting but love your channel your humor and the way you are doing your videos God bless and keep them coming thanks for giving people good quality videos thank you
I'm glad to see this era jeep on here finally, Have always been my favorite, the AMC jeeps, I have an '86 Wagoneer, although not a woody and mines been 5.2 magnum swapped.. I wish more people would preserve the AMC engines. Also those wheels, the turbine wheels have always been my favorite kind of wheel! I wonder if it's piston slap you are hearing, I have a '87 Cherokee aswell with the 4.0 and they are known for piston slap, mine has piston slap for sure and it sounds very similar, actually, exactly the same. it's the one in my profile picture, ran it with piston slap for 5 years, ate a little oil, ran out of oil once even, still going strong, gone on most glaciars of Iceland slappin those cylender walls hahah.
Definitely check the flywheel for cracks before you pull that motor down. Had that happen to me before and it sounds just like a rod knock. Pulled the dust cover off the transmission and shined a flashlight on the flywheel and you could see the shiny metal in the cracks reflect back. Great job on getting it going again and I love watching you two work together on projects. It always entertaining. Keep up the good work!!!
I wanted a Chomanche ever since high school! Almost bought a used one in '91, but bought a new S-10 (2wd) instead. I remember watching them kick butt in the minitruck racing series back in the 80s! Too bad Chrysler was afraid of competition with their own Dakota. I wish they had kept making them and made extended cabs and all that!
Back in the day, if you needed a replacement rod, machine shops had rods that spun a bearing resized back to original specs. So you might find a rod that had a #2 stamped on it, but in a different cylinder. Or a rod cap matched to a rod stamped 6.
Love the wagoneer, the upside app is amazing. We use it because we daily a v10 ford excursion that gets 9.2 to 11.5 depending on who is driving it, me or my wife 🤣🤣. Definitely saved us a decent amount.
I also have an SJ FSJ. Rust is worse than mine. Lifters can be an issue but I spent years with an oil treatment hiding the issue before putting in new lifters and cam. Put in The snake oil and Get it hot.
i live in holland and before i had my license i was obsessed with a jeep cherokee. I went to check one out with my dad and grandpa and i had the exact same reaction as her hahaha. Ended up not with a cherokee, but with a cherokee, wagoneer edition, from 1985. It's just like the cherokee, but it has chrome on the mirrors and door handles. It's such an easy car once you get it to run. We had a lot of work on it, but i wouldn't trade it for the world.
I have a 97 2 door Cherokee with a 5 speed that had a knock that got increasingly worse over time and thought it was a rod bearing being it had 207K miles on it and was beat to shit. Pulled the pan off and instead I found out that the number 6 piston had broken off a skirt. It now has a new freshened up 4.0 albeit with way more miles
yayyyyy Mook is back! Those old Wagoneers are awesome. Idk the last time i seen one. Id say that engine deserves a full rebuild. What you said ab parking brakes is 100% accurate. My 05 F150 doesn't have one cuz it was all rusty and cut off and I've never used the one on my 03 Subaru Forester. I wouldn't dare use the one in my 65 Mercury Comet. So yeah here in the north on a vehicle that is getting older You are asking for trouble.
I used to have an old Jeep Wagoneer when I was stationed up in northern Maine that had that same 360 motor and it was every bit as noisy as your 360 there. That old jeep was pretty much wore out and when I was getting ready to leave Maine and I got rid of it so I never bothered to check out the issue with it
I did the opposite with a Dodge 3.8 on my Caravan. Lifters first and then realized the tick was coming from the rods. 130k miles ago and still running strong. 😂
Waiting for shipping is never fun, especially when the thing being shipped is an inherited 71 C10 that's been parked for 15 years and been in the fam since new. But that's where I'm sitting! 250/3-on-the-tree, in shockingly good shape, shouldn't be hard to get it going again.
I have a love/hate relationship with jeep wagoneer. I grew up in Toledo the home of Jeep. Jeep provided many family and friends careers. But when I was 7 I was hit by wagoneer while riding my bike. I was in traction for months and after 2 years I learned to walk again. Now im 45 and I've always juggled the idea of owning one. Probably too late for me to find a decent running one that's affordable. Thanks for the memories
Ive picked up 3 AMC 360 engines for my 1 Jeep project. They all have the same crank problem, and similar noise. The thrust bearing eats into the crank and gives a bunch of front to back end play. I've sent one crank out to a shop in MI to have it welded and turned.
Great episode. Sucks about the engine, but definitely worth finding another AMC V8 to swap into it for the long term. Good to see the Junkyard couple working together again! 👍👍
I've loved those Grand Wagoneers since they were new when I was a kid. Saw a goldish yellow one a couple weeks ago out in the wild that looked to be in pretty good shape. I can tell the wild Mook really loves her new to her rig.
I had the 2 door and LOVED it! I went to Iraq as a combat medic and my stepdad sold my 1969 Mustang with the 351 WIndsor and the army left my jeep in an open lot for the entire deployment at Fort Lewis so it went from being perfect to covered in mold inside and destroyed, so I lost my 2 favorite vehicles thanks to a stepdad and the government in one combat deployment 😂 never found another of either I could afford on an enlisted man’s pay smdh have a blast guys that’s badass!❤
After lift kit, 35s, tune, big intake, changed trans to shift at 6300 rpm on my 04 ram i got 9mpg and really didnt care. Still cheaper than a car loan payment a month. My new diesel gets 15mpg and feels like I can go years between fill ups lol

I'm 66, had a massive heart attack 3 years ago. I would suggest you find some groups or just a few friends and get out more, I have breakfast with a "Golden Oldies" group every Friday and a Veteran group on Saturday. Helps keep me sane and we help each other alot. Good luck
@@kdogg82You’re cringe.
@@kdogg82you're an A-1 weiner gobbler. 👍👍
Ive struggled with understanding wiring diagrams and have been working real hard at work to get better at it. I know what you explained was a pretty simple system, but i actually understood both your explanations and the diagram. Thanks for that very small confidence boost!!
“Ran without oil”
I mean, if it can channel any *shred* of being from that blessed 351 from that Ford wagon, I think it’ll be fine
Posi rear axle
Had 62,000 original miles, and I put 75,000 more on it before giving it to a friend before I moved to North Pole, Alaska.
I'm in Washington and my 2008 Volvo C30 has a parking brake that still works even though it's an automatic and I use it every time I park
I plan on safety wiring my new regulator to keep it from backing out again.
seeing Mook that happy at the beginning gives me life :)
Mook again has great taste.. I borrowed one of these for a tailgate, thing was awesome..
Great to see the smile on MOOK's pretty face! Good job Kevin!
I would think people would worry about starting a motor with starting juices
I love the buena vista auto sales plate in the back ground 15:00. If you buy from them in storm lake your gonna need to fix some crap before you drive it.
I recently discovered your channel and I have such an interest in this stuff but have barely held a wrench. You guys seem happy and like you like to have fun and like working with each other. I love the patience too.
Love episodes with Mook!
I don't like commenting but love your channel your humor and the way you are doing your videos God bless and keep them coming thanks for giving people good quality videos thank you
Get yourself a 3/4-inch PVC T-fitting and notch the T end so it fits into the locking hub spider. Makes a nice tool for locking the hubs.
good tip...im gonna steal that
I'm glad to see this era jeep on here finally, Have always been my favorite, the AMC jeeps, I have an '86 Wagoneer, although not a woody and mines been 5.2 magnum swapped..
Love those..and the old Comanches, too. Your guy's energy is contagious. Cheers !!
I am too tall for the Comanche. Almost got permanently stuck in a Comanche once. 😮😮😊
The best fix for any engine noises or unwanted squeaks is a loud sound system. Obviously the louder the knock the bigger the speakers.
I've been driving one since the 90's, we take it to the cabin every month, wonderful cars.
Back in the day, if you needed a replacement rod, machine shops had rods that spun a bearing resized back to original specs. So you might find a rod that had a #2 stamped on it, but in a different cylinder. Or a rod cap matched to a rod stamped 6.
Love the video. Will there be a part 2 to this restoration?
Those old wagoneers are badass!!
Love the wagoneer, the upside app is amazing. We use it because we daily a v10 ford excursion that gets 9.2 to 11.5 depending on who is driving it, me or my wife 🤣🤣. Definitely saved us a decent amount.
Hearing Mook say she was planning your wedding made me so happy! You make an awesome couple and definitely belong together! Congratulations guys!
Kevin coming into the shop with the snow blower running is the most Iowan man thing I’ve ever seen! 😂 you guys are awesome love your channel.
I had a 96 jeep Cherokee 4.0, now I have a 98 jeep grand Cherokee 5.2. I’m totally here for this!!
Wanna buy a '04?
I have a 97 2 door Cherokee with a 5 speed that had a knock that got increasingly worse over time and thought it was a rod bearing being it had 207K miles on it and was beat to shit. Pulled the pan off and instead I found out that the number 6 piston had broken off a skirt. It now has a new freshened up 4.0 albeit with way more miles
Ooh that is not good. Loose parts are not fun to find. 😮😮😂😂😂
Mook and you really belong together!!
You do not see these anymore, most end up on the scrap pile from excessive rust, but still glad to this this one was a survivor..
"Do you know engines?"
"I know a thing or 2."
So modest.
Skyler White called. She wants her car back 😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
yayyyyy Mook is back!
Mook was so surprised and happy! We love watching the adventures you guys have.
I used to have an old Jeep Wagoneer when I was stationed up in northern Maine that had that same 360 motor and it was every bit as noisy as your 360 there. That old jeep was pretty much wore out and when I was getting ready to leave Maine and I got rid of it so I never bothered to check out the issue with it
43:43 Wedding? Did I miss something? Congratulations!
I did the opposite with a Dodge 3.8 on my Caravan. Lifters first and then realized the tick was coming from the rods. 130k miles ago and still running strong. 😂
You ran it 130k miles with rod knock?
Waiting for shipping is never fun, especially when the thing being shipped is an inherited 71 C10 that's been parked for 15 years and been in the fam since new. But that's where I'm sitting! 250/3-on-the-tree, in shockingly good shape, shouldn't be hard to get it going again.
Can't believe that thing is running so well with such a knocking noise. The Jeep is in pretty decent shape. It was a great video and hope to see more.
A MOOK SIGHTING!
Judging by her reaction, Mook is gonna love that Jeep Wagoneer forever. Kevin..you're gonna have to help her make it mint.
Yay! So good to see Mook.. Queen of the digs.❤😎
After lift kit, 35s, tune, big intake, changed trans to shift at 6300 rpm on my 04 ram i got 9mpg and really didnt care. Still cheaper than a car loan payment a month. My new diesel gets 15mpg and feels like I can go years between fill ups lol
Nice to see MOOK & Kevin together on a project. Jeep from the great days when AMC owned the brand !!!
Love Her Excitement !!!!!
