    the maf sensor has a flap in it that closes the circuit for the fuel pump. So if that engine isn’t sucking any air your fuel pump ain’t pumping. Found that out myself a few years ago working on an old Toyota truck that had been sitting in a storage locker since 1997. Took me 3 days of stress to learn that.

    You should 1) keep it and 2) replace the timing chain. You can do the whole thing for $100 easy, and it will probably drastically improve the drive quality and resale value. Also, if I'm correctly remembering the fuse box from my '87, you are missing the fuel pump relay. Also, check the frame for rust before you try to sell it. Without frame rot, you might be looking at 3-5k for that thing.

    On older EFI vehicles with a vane style mass air flow sensor they needed to see air flow through the vane sensor before it would trigger the fuel pump. That's why you weren't getting power to the pump simply turning key on you have to crank engine with VAF connected to intake and plugged in for the pump to kick on.

      @@thesillyhatday Yea neither did I ive worked on a few older toyotas corollas and camry's from the 90s and I dealt with the oddness that the fuel pump doesnt do jack when you turn the key on. I actually figured it out by accident once while working on a corolla with a leaking fuel line.
      Dude swore up and down that he saw fuel leaking from the line. turned the car on. nada it wasnt till he got in and accidentally started to crank that all of a sudden old faithful sprayed fuel right out and onto the engine. from that point on i just thought that toyotas had some kinda weird thing where you had to go from IGN on to crank before the fuel pump would do anything. never even thought it was anything to do with MAF.

    Kevin the broken air intake hose will set off the engine check light . To find trouble codes look around the engine bay for a small grey box with diagnosis on the top. Unclip the lid and connect a wire between T1 and E1 this will make the eng check light on the dash flash. It also stop the ignition advance while connected so you can check the spark timing.. The flashes are coded. EG 1 flash a gap and 3 flashes then repeats or displays another code. That was code 13. Look up the codes on the net. Its a basic system. If you need to check the fuel pump relay its beside the computer either under the centre of the dash down low or behind the drivers kick panel .

I have a hard time beliving that i could lie on that sofa, much less sleep on it a full night. These young (oh, well, -ish..) men have no problem whatsoever. I would have lying there thinking about the bugs, pubic hair, milldue, sars and aids thats roaming around in the fabric.. Toyota 22R-E is a legendary engine. If you fixed the exhaust leak it would run awesome. Had multiple Toyotas with a variation of this engine 18R, 20R and 22R-E all had well over 100,000 miles and were going strong. Usually the body would rust out before the engine gave a problem

    Not only were those Toyota campers rad as hell, they were hella durable, as you clearly saw! Honestly, no surprises anywhere in this video, it's an old Toyota, and the the campers build around them were also well made. This one is a great example for being put out to pasture. Obviously, the axle was geared crazy high for all the extra weight, so the venerable 22RE handled it pretty well, considering they were already fairly torquey little suckers to begin with. Strip all the emissions crap out of it, give it a solid tuneup, and it will continue to run forever. It handles well because that Toyota """1 ton""" chassis was built well, and the whole thing has a crazy low center of gravity, despite the whole camper being added on top of it.

    • @swamp-yankee
      @swamp-yankee 6 месяцев назад

      My old man has a Toyota 1 ton and it’s the same chassis as the other pickups with heavier springs and a differently geared rear end & trans. Planning to give it a new frame and 4x4 swap it. Feels kinda unfortunate to be making a 1 ton into a regular pickup because they’re so rare but a rwd truck is useless to me

      @@64maxpower Everyone travelling has to have a seat belt so as parents who want to take a child with them you need three seat belts so you are better with a van with three seats in the front or two belted seats in the front and at least one in the back. Fiat Ducatos or the Citroen or Peugeot versions are really popular and what I went for.

  • @HR-wd6cw
    @HR-wd6cw 6 месяцев назад +19

    They were built for efficiency, and if anything, to show you didn't need a huge expensive motorhome. I think though a lot of mechanics did say that the 4 cylinder (while more reliable) was underpowered compared to the V6 versions obviously. I can't remember but it looks like that has dual rear wheels so that may have helped with handling, and the weight likely meant that as long as you didn't corner too hard or fast, it wouldn't sway plus the center of gravity is much lower on that, plus the over-cab bunk probably helps with putting some weight on the front. Travel trailers, on the other hand, and larger RVs are less aerodynamic, higher off the ground usually, which is probably why you thought it would sway more.

      To be exact the maf sensor has a flap in it that closes the circuit for the fuel pump. So if that engine isn’t sucking any air your fuel pump ain’t pumping. Found that out myself a few years ago working on an old Toyota truck that had been sitting in a storage locker since 1997. Took me 3 days of stress to learn that.
