Matt, I always think back to when you were so frustrated filling all the rust holes, how you struggled and how you worked through everything, seriously well done. You’ve coupled that with taking us along as you actually enjoy using it, it’s very cool to see and to take part in from our homes! Great job brother, a brilliant effort in every respect!
My word that thing takes the bends so well and just seems to pull out of the corners with real guts! Looks like it’s great fun to drive. Fantastic credit to you Matt.
Matt, your cars are proper Artisan pieces of art....but,BUT!!!!! When you take them on track, they are 1st class bloody flying machines!!!! Big salute to you Matt, thanks for sharing your skills on here. And man you can drive too!!!
Wow, thanks for that. My first car was a ford pop like this but with a three speed and a side valve. It was a 1952 and I was 11. we chopped it about a bit too. loved that old car.
Nice driving Matt. The Mongrel sticks like glue to the track, very good cornering. The M3 out accelerates you on the straights and so it should because it has a huge engine by comparison, but you can out-stick him in the corners. Ditto for the Yaris. because of its turbo. Nothing to be ashamed of there mate, that's for sure!
I'm thinking there was a license plate on the back of the Yaris? For an MOT compliant car that thing was pretty quick! Matt is shaping up to fully make the Mongrel fly! FR
Brilliant Matt. I've just binged the whole Playlist, All 97 videos at the last count. You certainly have some great engineering skills and your perseverance in the face of adversity is admirable. Things we have in common: I had a 100E in the '60s; I worked at Cadwell Park on several occasions in the '70s; I was a centre lathe turner on a lathe identical to yours in the '90s. Keep the videos coming. They're very informative.
A bloody beautiful car you built, mate. An absolute gem that you can play with. Awesomeness. Only thing I would've done is add a turbo for a bit more phooaaaarww when you want to Knight Rider the M3s etc😁 Much respect from 🇿🇦
Great choice of track - I love Cadwell, had many a race there. Usually ended up in the scenery or on fire, but such a gorgeous circuit. 6:17 - next job, make a Ferrari-style gate for the gear stick 😁👍
After watching your highs and lows of the whole mongrel build, it’s fantastic to see a first class end product, much respect to you. Great driving too 👍👍👍
Sooo good to watch The Mushy Pea in action.. all those hours of effort .. brilliant to watch and it has been a really enjoyable journey.. I wear the T with pride !!
Now that was ace.. Awesome driving too. My Dad raced hill climbing back in the 70's ,driving a red 60-61 Ford Anglia with a super charger, Harewood mostly and some over sea too. keep up the great racing...
What a great car, you did a great job building it . You need to make it a killer car. Put in a Mazda Rotary engine, Lighte, enormous power for such a tiny motor, pulling 10,000 Rpm no problem. You'll scare everybody. Congratulations mate, JOB WELL DONE.
I put a lotus Cortina engine matched with an escort box in one of those, with Cortina 315 front struts to give me the disks and an escort rear end. Man, that car could fly. Good to see you are having fun.
Flying mushy pea, certainly keep up with those two in the twisties, just their extra grunt to pull away on the straights. Good to see you having fun with it.👍
true BUT if those are the daily drivers of the owners, you dont know if theyre pushing to the limit or not, plus theres also the fact that the mushy pea is set up solely for track use (suspension etc) whereas those 'dailies' are probably set up as they left the factory.
@@petelattimer6808 Not only that but the mushy pea must have a better power to weight ratio than the other vehicles. The lightness of the vehicle certainly must help in the corners. The real test would be against other similar track orientated machinery in a Clubman's race.
@@billgaytes6845 The mongrel ought to have a similar power to weight ration as the M3 but being lighter will be more nimble through the bends especially as it has MX5 underpinnings and should be more torsionally stiff with the roll cage that should assist the handling. Man, what a track...like a crossbreed of Nürburgring and a cart track... 8-0 Great driving and great car, all work and frustration pays off now! Thx for showing! :-D
Que gran trabajo , me gusto mucho la manera de reparar el auto , excelente trabajo de carrocería y adaptación del chasis, buen tiempo en tu vuelta , saludos desde México
Nice tidy lap Matt. Well done :) Suits the Mongrel perfectly. When I was 16/17 my 'home' every weekend, as I lived at Ulceby 10 miles away. Where my love of F1 Stock Cars was born. I have driven the whole track, but not in 1 go, and mainly in my road car.
This track terrifies me. 20 years ago I'd would have gone for it, but these days I'm going to have to insist on a a bit more track and a whole lot more of a run off..!! Tidy driving, fella, tidy driving...
Great stuff Matt, that gnarly Cadwell track (where I usually watch bike racing) was the perfect home for the mongrel....So much faster around the Mountain and Hairpin areas than anyone else!... Thought that bloody Toyota was never going to get out of the way!! 😄👌
That is a well respectable time, nice one Matt, it's punching well above it's weight, and it looks like it handles really nicely, turns in well, accelerates out well, all in all, a good job well done matey. Pat yourself on the back.
MX5s have a great chassis and handling. Mine can keep up with a lot of high powered cars around the bends at knockhill but like the mongrel lacks the power and straight line speed. Adding a turbo made a huge difference and the car is probably more capable than my driving skills

Fantastic driver skills and also great footage. My old man used to race Cadwell park regularly on bikes. Still, if you're in a car or on a bike, it's the same skills. Fair credit to all featured :) Ok, so I just watched the whole video....that last lap when he had an open run....phewwww! Man and machine in harmony. I'm going to ask my dad what his fastest lap was....will post ^^
As much as I love the the E46 M3 I was saying, "Go on the 100E!" Also, if you play Eurobeat down the inlet manifold it adds 100hp across the rev range. FACTS.
What a great piece of driving footage, well done matey, good skills. I'm also impressed that a heavy, 20 year old design, RWD coupe like the E46 M3, can be faster than the latest, hyped-up, next-big-thing, AWD Yaris, especially around a narrow & twisty circuit like Cadwell.
