@C.D. Wolf, et al, the Vauxhall Chevette is actually a respectable rally car and it is also not a bad tuner, drifter, or track car if it is configured right, and ditto for its American cousins, which are the Chevrolet Chevette and the Pontiac T-1000. I have even seen some people put LS swaps, and heavy modifications, to a Chevrolet Chevette and made it into a surprisingly good muscle car as well. What is to say that the Vauxhall Chevette and Pontiac T-1000 could not also be altered that way as well themselves?

spiritual successor to the crossflow and 2000E swaps from the 80s, nice. Kadett C GTE axles are beefy like mini Manta axles, I forget which other models had the big stuff, mainly found in Germany.
Manta A series was the common swap, for a perfect fit spring / axle brackets needed relocating outwards about 20 mm per side. Manta B or Cavalier axle casings could be narrowed as well ,and use A series Manta halfshafts. Ford English axle diff pinion flanges also straight swap for the horrible u bolt propshaft joint on the front of the torque tube, makes for a better propshaft. Not the first time I've seen a Ford transplant in a Chevette. Way back in 1987 when I had a 79 Chevette L saloon (same colour as yours, China Blue), I knew a mechanic who had put a 2 Litre Ford Pinto OHC 'crossflow' engine with two Weber 40 DCOE sidedraught Carbs coupled to an Opel Manta gearbox, suspension setup, brakes and back axle. The whole car was lowered a couple of inches, man that thing was fast.

Forget could be a nice Nick name
Yes the hand brake cable did run like that with lots of grease. Fond memories of my hatchback chevette which in its day was quite a good car despite being based on the Viva. Main issue was mayonnaise with the 1256 cc engine
Unusual to see someone cleaning their car in the snow 😂😂😂
My first car was a 1979 2 door Chevette, in a similar pale blue colour, but very low spec, got mine at 3 years old. Vinyl seats, no heated rear screen, noisiest wiper motors ever, even a new one.
Priced similar to a Ford Fiesta, but much bigger.
Please keep those wheels.
I had aT reg sky blue Vauxhall chevette’ It was a great little motor. There wasn’t a bit of rust in it at all! But I had a Vauxhall Viva HB which the flitch panel in the engine bay were none existent.
That's a perfect sleeper, nearly too good to use
Have a look how much welding Retro power have had to do on the hatch back Chevette they are prepping! You've got a great start-Good solid base for a great car and what a sleeper.
So your GM has a Ford engine in it, and your Ford has a GM engine in it? :)
that puzzled me seeing that Ford engine
@@csinalabama Same here, I was scratching my head, I had a Vauxhall here in Canada back in the 70's and there was nothing FORD about it.
@@csinalabama it was put in before it was garaged as a project, its a ford zetec engine so nowhere near as old as the chevette
I had seen a v6 sierra 2.8 in viva hc in nz about 5 years ago, seems to have gone well.😎👍👌

As I'm in Texas, it looks like an Opel. Our Chevrolet Chevette was a totally different. I can't wait to see the completed job! Best wishes on a cool car!
It was the Opel kadett
Just needs a running engine and the "shovel" will be fine. It's in really good nick for 1978 sweeet.
Yeah, we used to have a Vauxhall chevette, which we used to call a Vauxhall Pushette as that's all we ever did to get it started lol
Damn! Bob is super clean for his age! Welcome to the world of Ford powered classic Vauxhalls!! Incidentally Matt, I've just reshaped a mk2 Escort bias pedal box for the Cossie Viva. I'll email you some pics. Should be a similar amount of work. If you can find a Manta A axle, they are the same width & bolt straight in 😉. Cheers. Leigh.

my name is bob,
I'm looking for a job,
when I'm not getting fired,
I'm living like a slob,

Looks like Bob got a job! Bob sure turned out to be nice looking Chevette. Great job! I think this is going to be a cool little project and can't wait to see how it turns out.
Thanks for making this video!
This car looks a lot like one of my brother's cars, the Opel Kadett ( Back )
Same car
Yes ! GM bought Opel years ago now most Bucks are built in the old Opel plant.
Really clean Shuvit. The DTV Chevettes are a thing of beauty. I do hope there was some spark plugs in that engine!
That thing looks good. Doesn’t look like much rust.
I had the opel kadet 1200 in the same colour it was 30 years old when I bought it. KPT 25T, it was a truly amazing car inside and out.

What a great find, liking the sound of your plans 👍
Blowing the engine in a Chevette was one of the best things I've done in my life.
I had a 1986 chevette with a 5 spd back in the early 90's I had it hot rodded up I took the head off and ported it and ported the intake and had the car for about a year I loved pulling the e brake and sliding around corners and doing donuts in the car anyway I was racing my friends Toyota Celica at the time and over revved the engine and spun a bearing I drove it around for about a week showing it no mercy and the day it let go I was pulling into my driveway when it let go spitting oil and parts of the block and connecting rod out onto my driveway LOL! it was a good little car anyway found another engine for it and sold it after.
Mine was a chevy chevette from here in Canada I have never seen or heard of a Vauxhall Chevette
Way better looking than what Chevrolet sold as the Chevette in the US!
I'd drive that daily for the rest of my life. How easy is it to convert a Ztec or other Fuel injected engine to carburation?
It’s doable,but why would you?🤪
Thats a stunner, especially with that zetec shoved in it .My first car was an 18year old chevette (saloon) in (factory) bright puke green back in 1994. Kept that car for 5 years cus it was mint for its age. Only work done on it was the valve seats so i could run on unleaded, instead of additive . Brilliant car. Regreted selling it almost immediately.
