- Watch as a starboard side door of this A340 - Lufthansa Flight 439 (D-AIGY) - mysteriously opens and closes as it awaits takeoff from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Sunday February 12, 2023.
Obviously, I didn't see the door crack open as it happened, but one of our subscribers, North Texas Aviation, pointed it out in the chat room shortly after it happened; several other viewers confirmed it after rewinding the stream.
Anybody have any ideas about why this happened? Is it a normal thing to open an aircraft's door after leaving the gate but before taking off?
Flight 439 departed six minutes later for Frankfurt and touched down in Frankfurt at 8:51 a.m. Monday.

I’m sure the flight crew had a indication issue with that door. Most likely the crew was conversing with their Maintenance Control and had the crew reset the door by opening and closing it to clear the ECAM msg.
Stange one Walt. Maybe it wasn't shut properly in the first place and a warning light indicated it, so they checked it again to make sure. Just a thought 🤔
As another said, there was likely an indication that the door was not completely shut, so they opened and closed it to clear the indication, which I'm assuming happened since they were able to depart without returning to the gate.
Most positively a crew member checking it was secured properly by food services ect. A signal that the door was not closed properly.
Thanks for sharing this clip of yesterday’s stream,,, I missed this 340’s appearance.
Interesting capture Walt. Shows us how accidents can happen. Have a good day Walt, and can’t wait for the next stream. ❤
Wow! I didn't even know the door was open, don't know what that was for.
I like these videos because sometimes I can’t join in the livestreams and I miss out on this!
Glad I was able to point that out for you! Expect me in future streams Walt!
North Texas Aviation, I was remiss in failing to mention that you first raised the flag about the open door incident! I've given you belated credit in the description to this clip. Thanks again for watching and sharing.
That’s certainly quite interesting, I wonder what the reason would have been for it to be opened.
Probably an intermittent door indication in the cockpit. Just needed to disarm slide, open it, slam it, and re-arm slide. Problem solved.
probably the door was not closed/airtight properly
what the.... how weird was that!!
Saw this but didnt think anything of it
Odd indeed Walt. Totally against protocol
I bet that was loud for the exit row pax!
Lufthansa’s A340-300 doesn’t have an exit row at the 2LR Doors, there’s a divider
Looks like they almost deployed the emergency slide on the A340
no lol, if the slide was armed you can’t reclose the door, it opens using power assist and (power assist is stronger then humans) one you lift the handle it’s the point of no return
In a couple of months it will be a 789
It momentarily thought it was a fish 🦈and began to grow a gill...
