Excellent advice regarding bear safety. That's why I like to have my mother in law with me in the mountains 🤠 (just kidding: she is great). Great video and nice gold. You guys have a wonderful day too 👍
I always love the friendly competition between you and Jeff. There is a giant road cut of ancient river gravel on highway 80 going up toward Reno before the rest area.
We don't have bears in the UK but enough 2 legged cougars to make the warning apply 🤣 Good to see you both out enjoying the day. The bench above that darker line of dirt looked good under those massive boulders, could be a safety issue getting a bucket load without bringing the entire bank down ontop of you though.
"Always go with someone you can outrun." I just fell out of my chair laughing when Jeff popped up on the screen. Thanks for the laugh! I thought you were going to say always carry your bear spray, but you threw me a nasty curve ball.
Yknow i notice that alot too, the obvious crevices that are hit sometimes have little narrow cracks no one has bothered with, or you can get further down with an Estwing bar and elbow grease
It is interesting how you look at things differently based on what you are finding. Up here in Northern Lower Michigan we get excited if we find anything bigger than flour gold. Our sand is loaded with fine flour gold.
Good advice... better take the wife this spring !!! Greetins from "Northern Jefferson" and the Bear Creek valley of the Rouge. Enjoyed the comradery and the video.
Great bear advice! I knew there was some reason you put up with Jeff. I practice something similar...I always go ice fishing with someone who weighs more than I do. 😄
Great advice and well taught! Sluice that whole bench! It would be super handy if you could find a way to set a sluice at the bottom of the bench and pump water up and let the slurry wash in the sluice without setting your sandwich down.......gotta be legal 😉
One old story was a news guy asked an ole miner up in Alaska what firearms he used for bears. He took out a .41 caliber rimfire derringer. The reporter was amazed that such a small gun could stop a grizzle. Nope the old sourdough said. You shoot your partner in the leg and then run.
Gary please don’t let Jef get eaten by bears. In the case I might need to go with you for the competition and I am a very lucky lady so you will have a hard time coming out on top. 😂
Hey gary... do you have an email address for your subscribers to talk to you? Like to have you as a pen pal... you are definitely Mr. Knowledge and i live for fishing. I'm from Wisconsin, born n raised... land of glaical flour gold and golden walleyes. Slim pick'ns here however for gold, so this next month, im headed out west to apply my 3 years of studying gold knowledge "on a daily basis" for 3 months to see how i do... and yup, i bought an minelab sdc 2300... sold my Ranger walleye boat recently to fund the trip and gear. Completely ecstatic about the rockie mountains with all her ruggedness, tough terrian, and beauty... thank you for all the beautiful footage and wealth of knowledge... you are the man of men.
Instead of bringing a partner you can outrun, bring a younger strong partner to carry things and if you run into a bear shoot him in the knee so you can then outrun him. 😁 have a great day.
I can't believe that you two old farts climb up such a steep mountain side, be careful! I think this summer I will be checking higher up on the banks to see if I can find some sweet southern California gold myself, oh and by the way I will be 60 this year wish me luck are you
Nice video and some nice color. My favorite quote... "Jeff's got a problem with Snow".
LOL !!!!!
I was picturing big boulder breaking loose and chasing Jeff down the hill. :-) Great video! Love the humor.

Thank you Gary for taking me along! I learn for each of your backcountry prospecting! Jeff is the Icy Pop! Thank you Dan Brent

Always fun watching you and Jeff have fun in the hills. Keep up the great videos.
Good bear tip 🏃♂️………………🏃😂
I looked for your video Monday, didn't find it. Glad to see it now.
You and Jeff are so competitive and tell Jeff not to hit you again with the snowball. 😄
Now he gets Two next snow trip out !!!!!! LOL
@@Smithsgold Maybe you will find a nugget next time and you will not have to hit him with the snowball. LoL 😆 🤣

Great idea on the extended crevice tool, get a lanyard on the handle to use while you’re sniping.
Another terrific video. Thanks Gary

Looks like a good place to set up a longtom on that hill
Always good fun joining you two on your adventures. Pretty cool ✌️😎
Gary, I'm a great fan of yours. You mentioned going back to that bench quote-unquote. That Hillside looked almost vertical. What gives?

The best bear gun is a little 25 auto. and a buddy you can kneecap in the event of an emergency.
lol
Can you say where that cliff is?
Nope
I am curious if that High bench you were digging from would be a good place for the high banker? It looks like good gold in each bucket!
I would think you would find some good gold but there is no water close by.
Future video idea: Have a short race to see who gets eaten by the bear! 🐻
pretty sure it would get us both. lol
🤣
@@TwoToes Well if so… that should stop those bears from ever eating people again!!!!
The way my Ankle feels I'd be toast for sure !!!!
@@Smithsgold It would be a real pleasure to go up in bear country prospecting and not even have to worry about being eaten with you gents!!! lol!
Didn't see Jeff or his gold in the wrap up. Could it be that the bear got Jeff and you got his snuffer bottle??
