I look forward to more videos on reading the river. Most of us have average detectors like a AT gold and they do not pick up any small gold. So its down to hunting for likely spots and panning. Our gold is so fine, a 1 gram day is a great day, so we live through your adventures. Keep em coming.

Good mornings guys! Great opening shots of a river gorge and waterfalls ! You got to love the cool mountains when the valley is hot. Did you two find some ice cream ?

Quick question: what is the least expensive metal detector that is still good for finding small flakes and such? Most of the gold that I've found up to now, is tiny!!
HOT DAMN YOURE BACK! I TOLD YA SPRING WAS COMING! Now to get that water to drop! Start off with the (almost) 2 gram day...headed to your best year ever! I feel a huge haul for you this year! I hope you find a nugget as big as your fist!
Good job out there on the hill. Nice of you to share your spot with Jeff. Only problem is he found a piece lol. I do the same thing. Good morning love your videos. Just began prospecting a while back. Have you ever tried a gold claw pan if so what are your thoughts on it? Thanks for videos I learn something new every time. You are a great teacher
Yes I have, and I don't like them. The only thing that has improved in panning in the last 60 years is putting some riffles in the pan. I guess when you get old you get stuck in your ways. lol
I think this is one of your best videos. I know it will help me read the river. The drone shots are very cool to. I would love to know how to spot eddys better.
Great information as usual Gary! Is it possible for you to do a video about reading a small creek (really small, able to cross most places in the fall without getting wet) in one of your videos? I had a claim on and off for over 30 years, and very seldom could I find flood gold, but 10 grain on up to 5 penny weight nuggets were common. Mind you, over 30 years it became harder and harder to find any gold, but the first 5 years was a sniper’s paradise. I guess my point is educating people not to overlook those small creeks.
Offer an opinion - I know there's no way to know for sure. 🤣 Do you think the square nails were from sluice/water-troughs/etc. that the "old timers" were using to mine with (and the wood has been carried off or rotted) or what? Certainly not cabins or something. What time period are you thinking for those workings?
When you find square nails in the workings, I think they are from the old sluice boxes and riggings. When you come across nail from a cabin there are a lot of them in a small area.
Don't worry Gary, Jeff wants to build a new chicken coop with those square nails, he doesn't care about the gold. I wonder which works better, square nails or round nails? Jeff, you should make square nails out of gold & put em out for Gary to find ; ) Thanks Gary for the vid, always great to see, always informative & great audio. Looks like you & Jeff always have fun together. Hope you had a nice Memorial day weekend & thank you for your service & enjoy your ice cream...Take care, Serg
Was thinking about buying a metal detector as an easy way to find gold, but it seems like the detectors miss some smaller gold that may be in a particular area. Is this true, and if the piece of gold is down deep will it be hidden from the detector?
