Gary...I sure enjoy your logical, forensic approach to locating the gold. You seem to be able to unravel a creek's story like reading a mystery novel. It's always a pleasure. Thanks for the great video.
Love the beauty of the place you went to! I especially love the leopard lilies! That's what I love about Hunter creek too! The beauty of nature---big leaf maples, oaks, crimson columbine, mountain misery, giant ferns and leopard lilies. The Motherlode has so much more than gold to offer the adventurer! Thanks for the little tease of gold, but moreover thanks for sharing the wonders of it all!!!
Thanks for taken us along....such beauty great....thats the size Gold we fined in Lynx Creek here in AZ...but just like your area it is just so darn beautiful that it just fun gettin out. Again thanks for taken us along.
Gary you make the best videos, the scenery is always awesome, I would love to get up to the High Sierras and try prospecting, I’ve watched your videos for years now and although I’ve never done any prospecting I feel like I could do a pretty good job based on what you’ve taught me, thanks for the great educational videos keep em coming 👍
You are the very best. So many channels just show the mechanics of mining, which is interesting. But I love how you show a perspective of the prospecting that is specific to whatever the conditions are where you're looking. For a newbie like me, this is fascinating, and instructional. I'm primarilly a fly fisherman who carries a little pan and a few hand tools when I'm spending the whole day traipsing up and down rivers in gold country (In general, N Idaho is not near the gold country that you have in the Sierras, but there's some here!) I'm used to "reading the water" for trout, but now there is this whole new "reading" of the hydrology, rocks, river conditions, (and the researching of claim acivity as a new winter sport) etc which deepens my experience up on the river. I'm so glad you do these videos!
Hello Gary. Your so right, that is beautiful country and just being there can lift your spirit. Thanks Gary for your effort in creating another wonderful video.
Thanks for sharing more prospecting techniques with detailed information Super good advice on panning a new random creek .12 of a gram plus a beautiful new area equals a fantastic day of fun Thanks for another great video Gary You can alway use my lucky scoop your holding onto for me !!
Hey Gary, The real treasure here is the beauty of Nature. I am thankful that I get to see Your videos. I am hamstrung as my Wife's caregiver but would be out there If I could. At 69 I still have good physical Strength and would love to be out there Thanks, Guy in Eugene, Or
Yes that hillside looked steep ! Good common sense info and advice on what to look for and experience info too. Beautiful country to be out in, you are blessed to be able to roam it 😉
Greetings Gary. I see you wearing a Marines cap and occasionally a sweatshirt. Are you Corps? If so, we are brothers. I was in the Corps 1967-1973. Old timer. I have hunted gold around Dahlonega, Georgia but found very little. That was the big strike before the California strike. Great videos. I enjoy them very much. At 73, I am no longer able to chase the pickers and flakes, but I enjoy watching you. Semper Fi
Another great back to basics vid. Something very special out your way in all those landscapes. And you appreciate it that much more when you know the history. Be well Gary.
Hi Gary, I see your hat so we are brothers, I'm Navy. I just moved to Paradise, CA. 3.5 miles from whare the Dog Town Night was found. 54 pounds! I have a Dues II on order so I hope to find gold and silver. Good luck.
Finding gold is just the bonus to a picture perfect day, I guess the only way it would have been better is if Jeff was there too. It is always a pleasure to watch your channel…take care Gary 👍
Maybe the gold the Oldtimers mined was an old chanel somewhere on the slope or even topside, rather than the creeks on either side? But it sure is a beauty spot, worth spending the day. Cheers for the nice video! Pleasure to watch, as always.
That crane system in the introduction is so freaking awesome! We broke our rock pullers sprocket 3 times trying to get a sheet of bedrock out the other weekend that looked like it would be a time saver. Thanks for the awesome videos good luck out there.
It would be interesting to see how you would do with your SDC on that creek and hill side. That mining camp was there for a reason. Great vid as usual. Great meeting you at the Hunt.
I have watched many many hours and love it. I've always wanted a metal detector but now have bad knees so that's probably one bucket list item that won't come to pass. The only thing I wish you would do is number each episode (video). Otherwise, great videos and I have learned so much! Thank you.
I love the scenery up there! Me and my mining buds are heading up there for a little camping in the next couple days and hope to get a picker each lol. Heavy pans and thank you for the awesome videos! If we see ya, we'll holler again :)
Thanks Gary, lucky for Jeff you didn't find much. But Im wondering how it would go if a person thru a sluice in yhe creek and started filling bucketd. Would make for a nice day amd you just might find a little pile of shiney. Jeff's turn next... "Yeller Gold"
it will take you long while to get back up the steep hill side. how do you check with the state of Cal. where you can pan for gold, approved excess? thanks for the great videos.
I was in one hole all week got four nice nuggets Jeff has pics and a total of 50+ grams out of it I’m still super pumped up about I told Jeff I got spoiled
I got a pretty good chuckle when you said you had “a lot of really fine gold” the showed the pan. Here in western Washington we call that big gold. Those pieces were darned near pickers when compared to the fly poop we typically find.
I recently noticed a small creek in a burned out area with stacks of rocks about every 200 feet, so I'm assuming the old timers were finding some good material. Going to check it out next weekend, any tips for specific areas I should look at while there?
Hi Gary I live in Myers California and I got a river that runs through my property. I found small flood gold with my gold pan, what metal detectors do u recommend for flood gold.
Anther great clip Gary. I keep meaning to ask how long would it take for the average hike in? Mostly in Time and distance in a ballpark figure. Cheers and Beers from Down Under. 😀
@Darren From where I park a two mile hike too the river is my limit ,same California gold Gary hunts . However 🤔🤔🤔 Once on the river look’n around 🙃 it can add up quick and before ya know it the sun has passed over and ya have walked many more miles up and down the river and now at the end of the day ? 💩 It’s uphill all the way back ? First time I ever went panning was the yuba River and that's been the best I've ever seen. Any suggestions?
gotta get a gold monster. (light weight vlf). was checking out the new gpx 6000 at keen engineering. real light but $6,000. just a thought on the gold monster. have a good day.
Gary, I hope you are carrying an InReach satellite unit when you are solo hiking way off the beaten path like you do !!! If you break a leg deep down in those narrow steep canyons and you immediately go on the Mountain Lion and Bear menue!!! I got a pretty good chuckle when you said you had “a lot of really fine gold” the showed the pan.

Flood gold is to small for a detector to pick up. You can use the detector to find iron and lead, they are heavy and will travel with the gold.
