I married a Colombian and we had a long distance relationship for 2 years until I was able to obtain Permanent Residence Visas for her and her two sons. During those two years she would come to the US for a month and go home for two months. One year after I brought her and sons to the US she filed for divorce and went to Florida to be with her sister. Yes she did it for the visas. I wish I had gone to Colombia. I was retired and could have lived there for several years before applying for the visas. She probably would have left me before getting the visas. I saw red flags during the process and it was my fault I didn’t withdraw the visas applications. I own my mistake. I will be much more cautious in the future

As someone who has taken my wife from Dumaguete to the west I can thoroughly recommend it, not only is she seeing things she would never have seen before but we as a couple are going places and doing things that simply are not possible in the Phils. Also long term, I think it’s the best legacy you can leave your wife for her to be able to live and work in the West can transform the lives of the whole family. In fact we are bringing her sister to the West also and her sisters husband. This could change the family’s prospects for generations to come.

    • @Philippines-Anthony-Sandra
      @Philippines-Anthony-Sandra 11 дней назад +1

@@donwebb6776 that’s great and I totally agree with you, they are incredibly humble.
The guys who say don’t do it are so wrong in my opinion.
Just look at things like healthcare comparisons, salary comparisons and then add to that you will not have to be the only one paying out all the time, in the west there is a real chance of proper teamwork.
But you know what I like most of all? By bringing them to the West you get to leave the Philippines in full vacation mode everytime you visit. And that is way more fun.
When I married my wife I knew immediately the most importimportant thing I needed to do was to get her a permanent visa to my country, get her out of there and let her decide for herself and she loves it.
Our first anniversary is in 1 week and here we are in the west living a great life with the option to go back to the Philippines whenever we wish. It’s win win.
      All the best 👍

    • @biff9999
      @biff9999 11 дней назад

Yup, agree with everything you wrote. I lived with my wife and stepson in Tacloban after marrying my wife in 2018. I brought them to the States in 2022. It's been great, great for them, great for me.
I'm going to say something here that will make some viewers unhappy. I've known a lot of Western guys with Filipina significant others, both in the Philippines and here in the States. A percentage of these guys have serious personal issues, whether that means they're alcoholics, abusing drugs, they're very bitter about previous relationship failures, they have a gambling addiction, they have bad anger issues, they're chronic depressives, they're control freaks, they're rabid misogynists, they're paranoid, they are mentally ill (but functional), they're criminals or have a criminal past, etc.
In short, these are men who any woman of any age of any background from any country would be happy to be rid of after a few years. And a Pinay is not going to look at it any differently. If you're one of these guys and bring a Pinay to a country where she can get divorced, well, that's what's going to happen. Because even though you went to the Philippines to escape, to get a fresh start with a beautiful FIlipina, but you're trying to make that fresh start with the same old you. And the same old messed-up you is going to make that sweet Filipina crazy, just like you made those other women completely crazy - the previous women in your life, that is.
So, for those guys, yeah, don't take your Filipina to the West. She (like any other woman) is going to head for the exit door on your marriage when she gets to a country where she can get divorced. Just keep her in the Philippines, where you have all the money, all the control, and divorce is illegal.
For a normal, or even relatively normal guy, though, bringing her to your home country is a damn fine option. I recommend it.

I met my Filipina wife in the US about 3 years ago. She has lived in the US for about 12 years, along with two of her four adult children.
I don’t know if being from Sinait Ilocos Sur counts as being from the ‘Province’, but she grew up working hard both on her father’s farmland and in her mother’s kitchen, and with quite traditional values. She keeps our house spotless (including sweeping outdoors), and she loves to cook for me. She still has no interest in learning to drive, but I think it’s accurate to say that she’s modernized.
She’s sponsoring her two adult children who are in the Philippines to get US visas (which is taking a crazy long time), and she provides quite a lot of assistance to family back in Sinait (she’s considered the ‘bread-winner’, whatever that is), so she still works full-time.
She’s always grateful for modest gifts I give her, but frequently it’s her who pays when we go out to eat.
Bottom line - she’s one of the sweetest, good-hearted people I’ve ever known, and she reminds me a little of how people describe province girls.
I look forward to moving back to Luzon with her in x # of years, once the immigration process completes (and we’ll shuttle back and forth from the Ilocos area to Oahu).
Paul, I love your podcasts - one of the crazy people! You’re by far my favorite source of Filipino culture information, and I hope to meet you in person some day.

My fiancé (wife next month😮) grew up in the province but has spent most of her life in city of a million people. She's province to the core! In my opinion, the Philippines is the most westernized country of SEA. Occupied so long by Spain, not so long by us but long enough to speak English and have a government structure that more or less mirrors our own.

I appreciate your words; I went to marriage counseling with a Filipino pastor in America who has a little congregation of half a dozen couples with American men married to Filipinas. He told me not to bring her to American; he had two couples where the Filipinas became Americanized and divorced the husband. So, considering the odds of one chance in three or higher, I’m not sure I want to take the risk. With no-fault divorce, it only takes one party to get itchy feet

From an international relations perspective, it's possible to look beyond individuals and see how relationships between countries, through various "actors" (expats, tourists, businesspeople, diplomats), lead to cultural exchange and assimilation. This kind of syncretism (blending of cultures) is predictable and historically evident when people interact, adopting religions, technologies, or ideas from other regions.

Being married 3 times and seeing a councilor that has degrees hanging on the wall from a college. When woman/men do not get what they need and deserve from their spouse emotionally. They will look else where to get that emotional need met. Could be many things sex, relationships, looks from men, gambling, shopping, alcohol, and other drugs. My question to you is. Why is it does Mae feel the need to go out in public wearing skimpy clothes if in Thailand or at home? She will be getting from other men looks and reactions. Usually goes back to childhood not getting enough attention from her Dad. Once in adulthood will keep feeling or reliving that trauma. To fill that lacking emotional need will wear skimpy clothes, have sex with other men/women, emotional affairs and and marry older men. We all have baggage. But what separates the men from the boys is getting help counciling. Not trying to making anyone mad just look at it from another aspect.

Kind of silly to assume they are not Westernized. When I went there in the 1990s it stilled seemed a lot like the 1970s but the mobile phone has changed that...for the better. Land lines were out of reach because they were so expensive.

I think it depends on several factors. If she really loves you, how strong she is, what filipina friends she in the US, and whether her filipina friends are married, divorced, or single.
If she loves you but has single or divorced filipina friends you could be in trouble. If shes strong enough to resist you will be fine. Single and divorced Filipinas will tempt her and try to convince your filipina to get a youner or richer man. Ive already seen it happen here, several times. If her filipina friends in the US are married, chances are your marriage can last. They wont be pushing her to find a better guy. I know it happens bcuz most of my family is Filipino. 1000 members strong according to my filipina daughter inlaw.

But here, she is with a community of grounded Filipinas that helped her when she got here. But I have seen others go deep into the pool and forget where they came from. And second generation kids are already brainwashed into society. I plan to do the back and forth trips, my wife misses the Philippines and her family. I guess it's all about how the Filipina is raised and her being grounded in reality. And yes, I'm part of the crazy people (ask my psychiatrist at the end of the bar 🤣) and proud of it! could not agree more, modernizing is a good thing. we have been married 32 years, my wife learned everything, but I still consider myself her mentor, we go over things here about every day. 32 years ago she didn't drive, no job, therefore no SS benefits later, "what is a check", etc. She worked her 40 quarters, will be eligible for SS later, drives, banks, etc. We bought and sold 5 homes, (flipping) so our house is now paid for, and she helped with each house, sometime hard labor. She has never forgot her morals and principals, I trust her 100%. My opinion 6 months here and 6 months there would probably be a benefit to both of you. Not expensive here for us, at Panera right now, coffee (all drinks) $99 a year, free internet, and a very nice surrounding, I am a vet, we have kind of a large house, my property taxes $676 a year. Health insurance stellar, VA and an HMO. Just my thoughts, good luck to both of you.

She is simply discovered, through your guidance, there is a better life to be lived in the Philippines as compared to the one she grew up in. She is still the same Baby Mae inside that you met the first time. However, she has become confident in herself and willing try learn new things. Over time you have subtly taught her that she can be any person she chooses to be, because you have her back at all times. You have given her opportunities she never of having, Paul. That is a priceless gift you have given her. You have earned her utmost devotion and love she gives you unconditionally. Wow! What an awesome pair you two have become. Advance congrats on your vlogg making it the next level. You and people just naturally go together. ❤
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.

As a subscriber of both of your and Baby Mae's channel along with having met you both I concur baby Mae has Not been "Westernized" at all and all one has to do is watch one of her Live streams as they both are just like their video in person. I do believe she has more clothes and dresses nicer in public and her Dancing has improved and gotten so much better since her first videos as the sweet part is that she does it for fun and exercise not to be sexy or sensual and she is more confident because of being married now. Paul isn't just an old dog but a "Lucky Dog" as she truly "Loves Him" as that is my observation and it is such a sweet thing and a tremendous encouragement as just like the rest of us they aren't perfect but they mesh well and are accepting and value the other as evidenced by both always talking about the other in a positive manner on their videos. I am positive that both will be together forever per say as I agree that it is built in to a person as to whether they value and want to be committed to their values, morals and beliefs and with strong Family beliefs and Faith it is ingrained and reinforced in the Philippines. There are couples like Paul & Baby Mae or Greg & Wilma, Monty & Aragel, that i see who have that kind of relationship that is encouraging to those of us who have visited and /or are moving there as a Super Positive example that Love and Good Marriages still exist.

My wife was at the consultant in Cebu. She told me that the women were extremely stuck up. They looked down on her and other's thinking they were hot sh*t. She had a friend who was their at the same time. They talked about the fact that the women were just bitches. I know my wife is on TicTok and some social media but she hands me the phone once a dude texts her. And I go off hard core on em. Without question. Paul your absolutely right women do change but they were also a certain way money just highlights what was already there.

im glad you said what you said about men taking their wives to the states. its all about your relationship. i know im armchair quarterbacking here, but what you said needs to be said. i feel that guys who freak out about that are just horribly insecure about their relationship and their manhood and use the terms "feminism" and "westernized" as a crutch so they dont have to take responsibility for their insecurity. i personally dont see anything wrong with feminism and dont know why so many men that go over there talk about it like the big bad wolf. it just shows how scared and weak they are. not a popular opinion at all around this part of youtube. not trying to stir. just saying. LOL. thanks again.

Personally, I don't think it says as much about WHERE she comes from as it says about WHO she is as a person. But, she's probably also an exception rather than the rule.

Filipinos are very communal people and will acclimate to their surroundings by seeking out other Filipinos to connect with. When you take your Filipina back to your country, and if its a place that has a Filipino community, she will eventually connect with them. Its the other westernized Filipinas that will enlighten her to the possibilities, and if your Filipina has that inkling to move on, it is they who will make it easier for her. Filipinas are very family oriented and will not be happy being away from them for long periods of time. It may even become your fault, and a form of animosity may form, especially if you don't have a plan to return to visit in the future. It's best to retire and move to the philippines and live there to enjoy the benefits of living in the philippines.

My Wife, and all of her family, have been to the U.S. and Canada. Many have lived overseas in North America. So it wasn't a culture shock, bringing me into the family. And even though they've visited and lived in the West, they all prefer to live here in the Philippines. 🌴🇵🇭
I wouldn't call them 'westernized' as much as 'modernized'.
Roy is fortunate that his Son is getting 'western education', but his Wife, although 'modernized', is still a Filipina at heart, living in the U.S.
Yes, we talk all the time

Depends at what age she comes to the 🇺🇸 My ex from Lapu Lapu hangs around Flipinas and is still Flipina but very grateful for what I gave her -however my daughters at 19 and 23 are typical girls in 🇺🇸 but more aware of career-financial opportunities than their mom! They have better self esteem-perfect English-studious however they are spoiled but understand how life is so much better in the 🇺🇸 for young people (career opportunities etc)!

"It's up to you" Western men nowadays have a hard time coping with this hearing it from a woman's mouth, haha. As if we are not used to be around healthy women anymore. It can feel really akward in the beginning and to rediscover yourself as a man, the way it should be.

I can tell you why a woman you would take to usa would change and most of the cases I have seen is they meet other philippinas and they corrupt a "good girl" If she gets a job her coworkers can also cause problems. misery loves company and there are plenty of miserable people right now in america.

I watched a filipina vlogger interview 2 Filipinas a few weeks ago. She was asking them about feminism. She finally asked, do you need a man. They both answered, No! We can do anything a man can do, but better. I was shocked hearing that from Filipinas. They sounded exactly like radical feminists in the US. They even mentioned they can get pregnant without a man. The vlogger didn't ask who was going to repave roads, or work on their sewage systems, or dig ditches for 8-12 hours per day, or who will build hollow block houses. So I believe they picked it up on social media bcuz its exactly what you hear from feminists in the US. It took 50 years for this to spread in the US bcuz we didn't have social media. It wont take 50 years in the Philippines due to social media.

Well when a couple come together and live in the same house they will influence each other. Hopefully that's a good thing and makes both of them better people. I would say if an expat lives in the Phil's he will be more influenced by the Filipina's culture and if she is with him in the west his culture will be more an influence on her. So It does seem Baby Mae has changed, but I would say for the better. She still holds some traditional Filipino values, but has also been influenced by Paul's western mindset. .
