Thanks for your video. I think we have to look at the fact that the average Filipino lives for far less than $1000 a month actually less than $500 a month in some Filipinos can live on $200 a month. That’s just a fact. it all depends on what kind of lifestyle you wanna have. I’m just getting started with RUclips and I have a few videos out about the Philippines, but I’ve only been able to visit one time. I do plan on going back as soon as possible and eventually living there forever one thing I know for sure, no matter how much money I have I’ll be much happier in the Philippines!
They are not living on $1000 or less a month, they are existing and that's ok if you want to consume rice three times a day with dried fish and perhaps the occasional chicken or pork, live without aircon and virtually remain at home and walk everywhere with infrequent bus travel
With 7000 Islands the Philippines is a vast country, your happiness and success largely depends on where you decide to live. IMHO the first year is like a honeymoon, it's new, exciting and different. Year 2 most spend traveling a bit looking for a place where they feel comfortable, safe and close to the activities they want to pursue during retirement. After a few years you are settled in with a partner living life understanding the culture and finding your way quite well. My advice is to give things time, go slowly and don't make any big decisions in your first year here. Main thing is most of us worked our entire adult life awaiting retirement, enjoy this season of life. And for me it's better in the province especially in the mountains with a view and not too many neighbors. Good luck and God bless.

For about P15,000 you can rent a nice place in a smaller town. Maybe another P3,000 for bills including AC. That's much cheaper. I love running around on my scooter in the province of Bohol. Fishing is fun. Shopping at the local public markets and cooking my own food is fun and cheap. The expensive polluted dirty noisy city isn't for me. But different strokes for different folks. I'm glad to see you are getting along well.
yup,,,but if u are older with medications the province is a bad choice, many of my friends were scared to death in the hospitals in the provinces.....Many have fake drugs, or not potent...goodluck,,,,i have been to bohol around 15 times, but i lived in cebu city because of medical issues.

The crime rate is high but it's covered up and never talked about lots of pick pockets etc. I know three bars where people have been shot and killed but successfully hushed up
Philippines is an adventure country. If you just sit and watch TV in your home or condo might as well stay back where you came. There are lots to see, the beautiful sunsets, cultural celebrations and fiestas, rugged mountains and volcanos, soft white sandy beaches and the good people that can watch over you. It will take you a lifetime to see all the inhabited and uninhabited islands. Also it's a gateway to other countries in Southeast Asia and East Asia like Japan. English is spoken at most of the resorts and the signs and government form are in English. You don't have to learn a new language but it helps a little to know a local one, depending which island are you in.
PH isn’t as cheap as people think. Living in a condo and eating at “resto bars” and any western style coffee shops or eateries will add up. Unlike in Thailand eating the cheaper street food is a bit more challenging. The Carinderia’s have various dishes but I haven’t been game to try them. I stayed at Cebu IT park for a week and found it a bit boring. I notice on RUclips expats vlogging from Ayala Center, Cebu business park and that looks better. I didn’t visit Mactan other than the Airport. From Cebu I took the ferry to Panglao (Bohol) and that place is highly recommended.
Thanks for that, I also think Thailand or Vietnam would be cheaper, I mostly eat at home, street food mostly is fried a few times in dodgy oil, eaten at a few calendarias but look for the popular ones. Restaurant prices are better than London. I want to do a food video soon.

I like mactan, because you've got accommodation, beaches. But the decent beaches are all private. Access comes with my condo. It park and business park are great, but I love having the beach. I found Panglou was much better and free beaches. But having a city close was my biggest plus.
PH is not cheap but you can live very cheap if you want. In Thailand if you can eat street food 3x a day it can be cheap. but both countries almost same cost. but Thailand is very well built now in infra and tons of tourist and thai food is very popular worldwide because thailand is a popular place. on the other hand Philippine is just getting started its like thailand 20 years ago the food is not know and underrated IMHO not really a streetfood culture so if you comparing streetfood hands down Thailand wins and the PHilippines has really have a bad image in the past. but the philippines improve a lot.
The ONLY way to stretch your dollar is to live in a rural area, have a scooter motorcycle as your vehicle and learn to cook and eat local cuisine....I probably can live by $1200 minimum, a month frugally...just rent , electricity, internet and phone then cook your own...
They do, visa and mastercard are worldwide. I use Revolut as there are no charges on purchases, I would strongly advise getting one or something similar. Most banks have a 10k withdrawal limit and you can't escape the 250 peso charge. China bank is the only one I've used that let's you have more than 10k.
Very inexpensive when u plan ahead and build or renovate b4 u retire instead of renting...do urself a favor and find a young progressive educated working professional and avoid the low hanging fruit like most commonly choose 😅
