      Like how the L3 Cache is 8Mb, I had an IBM PS/2 Model 70 in 1990. My RAM was 2Mb less! (And that PC cost as much as a damn nice used car!).😳

    I've got this exactly model and configuration. I'm very satisfied with it. Doubled the cores count of my 5 years old laptop pc, doesn't make any noise at all and has this beautifull metal enclousure that does not look bad on top of my desk.

    Nick, I'd LOVE to see more videos on mini PCs... anything that home lab folks like myself can use. I don't care about game performance, I care about things like running my home media servers... Plex and related services. Thank you so much!

      Drop a low profile air cooler on top of the heatpipes and this bad boy will have thermals down in the 40-50s under full load.
      You will need a 5 volt fan tho.

    • @scurvofpcp
      @scurvofpcp 2 года назад

      @Torvaltz I did that as well for a few days and while it technically had more thermal mass and better performance that also included several more moving parts.
      Now, had this been a processor that was 20 watts hotter I would have seriously considered it, but it is currently in a brief case as a portable desktop machine.

    Right now I use a 4 year old ideapad I bought from clearance when I don't want to deal with my desktop. When I am just doing some minor browsing/streaming, or for playing background music while gaming but don't want the music coming through my headphones. I could see having one of these instead mounted to the back of the spare monitor. Even get one of those wireless keyboards that either has a mouse pad or trackball mounted to it for convenience.

    I have a lowly Mini S, and there's a slight design flaw! ... The 2.5" drive ribbon cable gets trapped between the SSD and the metal drive caddy! (which is used as an SSD heatsink) This could damage the cable over time. It's fiddly to put the base back on WITHOUT trapping the cable. If you try to tuck it out of the way, it tends to spring out again! This explains why the cable has a sharp fold in it. No wonder Beelink supply a spare cable, but NOT with my Mini S! If the cable breaks, you will have no internal drive!

    Hey if you can't get a Steam Deck in your country (which is many of us) you can probably pick up something like this: Not going to perform as good but then again this isn't on battery so the 4800u without as many power limit restrains can probably make up some of the performance a steam deck would.
    So also as a suggestion/request: you should try out Steam OS specially for devices like these since I think that the Steam OS could end up becoming a very good Linux gaming distro overall beyond the deck because it has the flexibility of Arch rolling release but a lot of the testing and control will be better/easier with Valve pushing most of the updates they've tested instead of a typical Arch install where a user basically risks some regression issues when updating to the latest and greatest packages.

    I just got the 4700 16/500 version for $360. I was planning to get an M2 pro Mac mini when they come out but this is cheap enough to stop me screwing around with my old i7 desktop and be a great CAD and retro game station.

    • @CiaraITB
      @CiaraITB 2 года назад

      Where'd you get one for that cheap? Cheapest price I found for that one is about $450

    • @skyak4493
      @skyak4493 2 года назад +1

      @@CiaraITB I got mine on Amazon last Friday for $360, honest. It must have been a program to get things moving -you are right, it is back up to $450.
      The new generation of chips are coming out, so inventory is being managed. Watch and see if they drop again.
      FWIW it's a great tiny PC. I decided not to wait because the next gen needs faster memory to perform, and that memory will be in short supply and extremely expensive. According to AMD this 4700U will work with higher speed LPDDR4 -but 3200 is the fastest available in SODIMMs.

    Ordered this about a week ago. Good performance, use it as a media center and remote play for consoles, works well. However the internal Bluetooth is absolute garbage. I am unable to determine if it is just a driver issue or not and since beelinks website is terrible, it does not appear they have updated drivers. Ended up using a Bluetooth dongle as only solution to being able to connect a Keychron K2 and Razer Naga Pro.

      The 4800u is better than the latest Intel i7. Beelink makes a 5800 series that blows away everything Intel and Apple makes but it will cost a lot more.
      Most people will not need anything more than this. It is a serious waste of money to buy a more powerful computer than you need.

      Over this past month I got 2 new mini pc's. To replace two old dinosaurs, now more than 10 years old! One with an i3 still perform amazingly well!
      A GTR 5 with AMD 5900hx 32gb/512gb with an awesome performance!
      And a comparatively, way more modest (and cheap) N5105 Celeron 16gb/512gb.
      Surprise, surprise! The inexpensive Celeron certainly can't compete in terms of raw performance. BUT! Here comes the but! ;-) For everyday, real world activities it's more than ENOUGH! For less than half the price! 235 vs 685.
      So absolutely worth considering according to the final usage and needs. Worth mention, no gamer activities at all. I don't "game".
