Upgradeable to Windows 11 is a plus. I purchased a Beelink GK-55 with the Celeron processor last December and it is EOL with Windows 10. This U59 is a nice unit. I'll consider it after I get more feedback from reviews for it. You did a great review on this Lon. Did not even know it existed until you made this video.
I'm really interested in this mini pc's thanks to virtualization. Nowadays all I need is a internet conection, I can create a really powerfull stationary pc or home lab so power will be outsource while I maintain lightweight set-up
For the price this is actually a pretty nice basic use computer. I was worried that the baseline price was for a barebones unit, but at least it includes everything needed to run. If you want more power, I would look at used mini office PCs for a similar price.
I am a newbie when it comes to networking and NAS solutions, but I have a idea of one I want to try but I’m unsure if it’s feasibility. My solution to a small NAS is to use a mini-PC (Beelink Mini S12 Mini PC) with a 128GB NVME M.2 for the OS and Urbackup as the NAS software solution, a 4Tb SATA 2.5 SSD for interior storage expansion. That’s for the first part, the further expansion plan is to attach a 4 Bay HDD Cage Chassis, connecting it to the Beelink through a NVME M-Key PCI Express to SATA 3.0 Adapter Converter Hard Drive Extension Card. My only unsure portion of the NAS, is my decision to power the 4 Bay Chassis using a Pico UPS (24pin DC ATX PSU 12V DC Input DC 12V 150-watt Pico PSU) as the power source attaching a COMeap ATX Power Jumper Cable to turn the chassis on/off. On paper it seems as if it should work but of course like I stated I’m a newbie. What do you think? Would it work?
You can do a lot of things with one of this. I have a beelink U55 I use it to run a plex media server with 4 HDD of 4TB each and I use it to emulate with retropie and block ads with pi hole and downloads with jdownloader and transmission for torrent. You can play AAA games via streaming with Steam Link or NVIDIA geforce now or Xcloud. And you can have a NAS with samba and zerotier one to use it outside home All running with debian GNU/Linux 😎
These are fine for retro gaming problem with retro gaming is either can play games up to ps1 or on this up to game cube, but want more got to pay big money. No middle ground when it come to retro gaming. So when it comes to retro gaming its a compromise. A 5 year old i7 nuc does better than this for video and good enough to replace a shield
I'm looking at getting this for a livestream rack build. What it will be doing is; Running companion (for macros), Running Atem control software, Running OBS (for overlays, graphics and video playback) and running powerpoint (Or ProPresenter) for presentations. I won't be using it for streaming media, but just those tasks I've listed. Do you think it should be able to run all that without issue?
Choppiness on youtube with calling timeline or not in fullscreen is very common on that kind of hardware (it starts to load 3D render), my 8250u doing that as well, so I don't think this is driver issue.
Couldn't get Linuxcnc 2.8.2 Iso image to boot from USB....or from dual boot D drive partition created on internal Nvme. Got to splash screen but no Live or install options worked. Tried lots of bios options to no avail
As Colin Chapman (Lotus automobiles) once famously said, "Add lightness." Lotus cars were never powerful (the Elise had a Corolla engine), but being light made them fast. If you put a light version of Linux (Zorin 17) on this, it would FLY.
I did some research, this is what I found: "it seems Beelink motherboard/BIOS doesn't allow for certain OS to be booted from an USB drive. The simplest fix we found to this has been to install batocera on the internal SSD." (It was from a thread on Bee-link's forum titled "U59 Ubuntu-Batocera-Lakka can't boot from USB". Then from cnx-software_dot_com, they reviewed and tested the U59 model under both Windows 11 and Ubuntu. So I guess Linux does run on U59, but you it might be tricky to get the media installer (USB drive) to boot. In conclusion, if you can't manage to get the media installer to boot, you still can install Linux OS on the internal SSD using another machine.
Eta prime did a video on another jasper lake mini pc and he got only single digit dropped frames for 4k60 youtube , chip looks like it can definitely handle it not sure here
So, I was curious about the 3D Mark score, having never run one on anything. I got the free demo and ran it on my ASUS i3 7100U Chromebox with HD620 Graphics, flashed with MrChromeBox and running Win/10. The test seemed awful to watch but to my surprise it scored 417 and rated excellent. No way is it a gaming box, but is it possible the graphics are that much better than the BeeLink or is it comparing apples to oranges. The Speedometer 2.0 was only 75. I would strongly expect the BeeLink to outperform the Chromebox.
I purchased this from amazon on your recommendation. Did you even actually test this? Mine came with windows 11 pre installed. I am on my second unit and about to return it due to the fact that every time this thing goes to sleep it turns off the cpu fan and never turns it back on. After waking from sleep it's fan will not come back on again until it is rebooted. EVEN if it hits it thermal throttle point of 105c. and this thing will almost melt the plastic case it is in because the fan doesnt run after sleep.......
Really interested in getting one of these. Would this be good as a Plex server? I have currently only 5 users of my current Plex server. But i want to shrink my server Down as have full server rack case. Steam 1080p content only.
just found this channel, so I was wondering if you've tested a mini pc that can handle youtube 4k/60 with HDR turned ON, on a browser? I'm looking for something like that and this one ain't it 😅... can't even handle 4k/60 SDR properly, much less with HDR on... also, if it didn't break the bank a whole lot, would be great 😋
Excuse me, but some reviews say the BIOS will not allow install of Linux distros while others say you can install Linux. I have not bought it because I only want to run Linux Mint on it. Can you settle this question, Linux compatible or not? Thanks.
Honestly at that price, why would you bother. Yes a Ryzen 4800U box costs a third more, but has several times the performance. In 2021, a PC should not drop frames on youtube.
a nice NUC but the company does not respond to the problems, such as the Wake on LAN, there is no way to make it work, if you try to subscribe to the support forum and named the word WOL, they hinder you with access complications, I am Curious to know if any of you managed to make it work :-)

For the purpose of performance, dual channel RAM is definitely better. Dual channel RAM means having two separate RAM controllers so each unit of RAM can work independently, effectively doubling transfer speed.

I'm waiting for a 2 core complex Gracement processor with 8 of the efficiency cores from Alderlake. Heck, i bet most people would be happy with 1 high performance Golden Cove core, and 4 Grancemont cores, somewhat like Lakefield. But unlike lakefield (that weird 5 core, 5 thread processor) these would be actually good. The "big core" on lakefield was so anemic, the efficiency cores on Alderlake were better. No need to mention the efficiency cores on LakeField, their performance were about on par with an Atom core from 2016
The leaked 2C + 8c + 96 EU in a 9-15W TDP is going to be absolutely killer. Going to be the biggest step forward in a long time for low power x86. That setup will probably be better than a lot of the current Tiger Lake H35 CPU's if we can get the thermal headroom to run at 15W.
I had one of these in a laptop. These Celerons were HORRIBLE in my experience with web browsing and application performance. For me...I'll stick to Intel Core i3 and Intel Core i5 systems from now on.
The base version only has 1 8 gig stuck of ram, not 2 4 gig sticks..found this out after I bought it..
I always like these little PCs. I already have 3 PCs, so I'm not exactly short on them, but it's nice to see how the scene is evolving.
Fantastic review. For both regular users as well as pro users. Kudos.

Can it play game pes?
Can we upgrade de memory ram from 16 to 32 Gigs with two memory sticks?

Did you have to change any BIOS setting to be able to run Linux? Some other reviewers had problems doing it(not sure if I can mention/link them)
