- Actress and activist Sacheen Littlefeather has died. In 1973, Sacheen Littlefeather stood on the Academy Awards stage and declined the Oscar won by Marlon Brando. Littlefeather called out the motion picture industry’s mistreatment and stereotypical portrayals of Indigenous people. But backlash from the Oscars cost her her budding film career. She went on to co-found a Native American theater company and continued to advocate for Indiginous people in the arts and health care.

I just learned about this brave hero a few months ago this year. That apology came just in time. Now she will be more than just remembered for her Brave act. We’ll never forget that she made such a positive difference for her people that they had to apologize. RIP now

She was a beautiful women when she was younger as well as intelligent and honorable. I have a little bit of native American ancestry. I'm glad she outlived john wayne who was going to attack her during the Oscar's ceremony where Marlon Brando respectfully declined his best actor Oscar award for admirable, and honorable reasons. I never understood the plight of the Indians until I moved to New Mexico. It helped me to appreciate what they have gone through and how they still suffer in many ways.
