This instructor may not have been licensed but just based on his exit and freefall, I would say he is knowledgeable and skilled. Of course (legally speaking) it’s better to have a proper Instructor rating but it isn’t illegal if you don’t have it. From what I can tell here is what happened: There was a failure of the kill line in the drogue parachute (the small white thing trailing behind them). This should be inflated, which slows them to 120mph and is then used to deploy the main parachute. With the drogue uninflated, the correct procedure is to immediately initiate main deployment. If the main will not deploy, emergency procedures should be initiated which deploys the reserve. This tandem Instructor deployed the reserve. The reserve then got entangled with the drogue preventing either parachute from deploying. He may have seen the drogue was not inflated and just went to his reserve rather than deploying the main (which is not right). But if he tried to deploy the main and it would t deploy, then the next thing to do is deploy the reserve. In this event you hope the reserve clears the drogue and does not entangle, but it is a possibility and unfortunately what happened here.

I took the skydiving course after 9/11 when they started letting planes fly again and when we got there in the morning for training a guy was working on a plane with parts everywhere… a few hours later after instruction and film study we were going up for a static line and to my sick stomach the plane was the plane that was apart earlier in the day!!!
As soon as I saw the headline I immediately thought "I bet it's about the place in Acampo." Yep, I've done 3 tandem jumps from 3 different operations, one of them at this place. It was the most unorganized, chaotic, zero-pre jump training, turn-and-burn jump center imagineable. My jumpmaster thought it was funny to do backflips out of the plane without running it past me first. I couldn't believe it.
Jeez. That owner is absolutely heartless, should be sued into oblivion, and jailed for the rest of his life. "The first two or three" kept hm up at night??? Hired an unlicensed instructor??? Guy is awful.
Not one bit of sadness or remorse how can someone be this cold. Trust me I don’t become immune to death I always need to talk about it and sometimes I do cry because I am a human and it breaks my heart that’s what motivates me to do what I do.
My boss took myself and a co worker to this business on a surprise it was my first time on a airplane needless to say I was terrified what was more so not comforting was walking in and seeing teenagers packing the parachutes upon waiting for the skydive everyone else was dressed and connected to their tandem instructor but my instructor was no where to be found eventually he comes out from the bathroom glossy eyed and introduced himself as Stoney he told me to put my coveralls on and attached us there was no instructions on what to do or expect out of pure bravado and ignorance I proceeded to the plane I will say the jump went off without incident but it doesn’t surprise me this place is the deadliest prayers to the families
Backup entangled in the mains driver so a main reserve entanglement . I believe there should be a third independent belly mounted reserve one can throw in clean air so that the chance of thirds entangling with the rear entanglement is negligible
I can't even imagine what that young man thought when that parachute didn't open. The terror he must have felt must have been immense. How a place where 28 people have died due to negligence is unbelievable. It can't even be an accident when you're not being cautious.
if she has not been paid then she should go to the courts and have them rule that the sheriff go there and take the business and anything else to sell off to pay off the judgement
Waivers usually work if the organization did everything in their power to make something safe as possible. Even then it doesn't mean much as it's up to the judge if they'll throw the waiver out or not. In this case, it doesn't seem like an airtight organization. Another OceanGate.
I did a tandem jump back in 1997 here. The instructor was about 24 years old and an arrogant ass. I didn't feel safe at all with the people. but was afraid to back out ( Not wanting to be called a chicken) I landed safe because I knew to slow us down as much as possible before hitting the ground, My friend broke his ankle because his instructor landed him hard. He told him "It was because you where squirming to much on the way down.
He feels no remorse saying it “was no one’s fault. It was an accident”. So I guess when someone drives drunk at 100 mph and runs a red light killing other people it was an accident since the drunk didn’t mean to kill anyone? A lot of people complained about his attitude but has cheap skydives to keep customers going there.
I did my 1st. Tandem jump out at Lodi in 1997 (certificate, and photos available to prove). The owner, that same man jumped with us that day. When another 1st time student that day, was expressing his fears...he laughed at him and said "you can not jump if you want, but your not getting your mommies money back!" We were all like...daaamn, did he just say that....? All the instructors seemed extremely embarrassed by his behavior! Then as were were climbing to elevation...he was sleeping!! I was blown away by that dude. I wasn't surprised at all to later hear these stories about that place!
I used to skydive in then-Communist Poland. A lineup of skydivers before a jump. 2 parachutes on each person, timing / air-pressure opening device, a parachute knife. One instructor checks you from the front then carefully checks the back. Then another experienced instructor does the same. Serious accidents or deaths? Zero!!
@@jamier.888 The waiver is null and void bc the skydiving instructor was unlicensed and the death was preventable bc he didn't know what to do at the crucial moment when he would have if he had his license. 0:43 👈🏼 I’m not a skydiver and I can tell you why they died. They released the first parachute and didn’t open, then they released the second parachute and it got tangled with the first one. Pulling the first one and then open the second, was the only way to be saved.

I live in Sacramento and have heard terrible things about this place on the local news for many many years now SMH. There’s no freaking way I would have gifted my child this after knowing this place’s history.
What’s unsettling to me about these skydive companies is that they cheapen out on EVERYTHING. It’s always a rundown decades-old plane, a dilapidated hangar, and old discolored parachutes.
If you owe the govt a few dollars they will arrest you asap...but a judgement of $40 million due to negligence and you can continue to be corrupt, keep your stuff, and run your business.
I heard about this and found out several others have died and the “instructor” he was with had no business being an instructor. Several of us put warnings out about fatalities at this facility but many others claim to have a good experience there even though the owner is very unpleasant and didn’t take the training video seriously. If one facility has that many fatalities especially with cheap prices then I would ask yourself “is it worth it for a cheap dive”?
The gall of this old dude to get on the news just to tell them he regrets nothing and will not pay anything for the accident he’s ultimately responsible for. That’s wild.
I think he made the right call it is the choice of the person to skydive and they always accept risk of an accident happening strong wing etc he is not selling this to children
Skydiving actually isn’t as dangerous as you’d expect - it has an average of 1 fatality per around 200,000 jumps according to the source I found. This skydiving center seems to just be horrifyingly negligent

A gift from his mom. His mom will forever regret this and will forever be haunted by it. I feel bad for her too.
The owner is unbelievable- what a sad excuse for a man. How is he still allowed to run this business.
As soon as I saw the headline I immediately thought "I bet it's about the place in Acampo."
Yep, I've done 3 tandem jumps from 3 different operations, one of them at this place. It was the most unorganized, chaotic, zero-pre jump training, turn-and-burn jump center imagineable.
My jumpmaster thought it was funny to do backflips out of the plane without running it past me first. I couldn't believe it.
Same. Every time I hear about any skydyving accidents I already know it's the Lodi center
Do you know what the instructor should have done?
Same here. That place is insane.
That's why I clicked. I live near there and am baffled it's still in operation.
Right. You would think that people around the area would known the dangers by now. The place has received a lot of news coverage.
Jeez. That owner is absolutely heartless, should be sued into oblivion, and jailed for the rest of his life. "The first two or three" kept hm up at night??? Hired an unlicensed instructor??? Guy is awful.
He’s definitely heartless, but how do you get money from someone that doesn’t have it. Also, what was illegal.
Not one bit of sadness or remorse how can someone be this cold. Even as a detective and seeing hundreds of murder victims do you know how much it breaks me to notify every family member to see the victim the damage that will be left behind forever for the family and loved ones. Trust me I don’t become immune to death I always need to talk about it and sometimes I do cry because I am a human and it breaks my heart that’s what motivates me to do what I do.
I already know where they’re talking about. Lodi, CA has become legendary around here for being a place where people go to die.
The staggering number of tragedies linked to the Parachute Center is insane. Someone needs to go to jail for this.
facts imo DJ Khalid should do some time

Only one parachute?!? No back up?!?
Backup entangled in the mains driver so a main reserve entanglement . I believe there should be a third independent belly mounted reserve one can throw in clean air so that the chance of thirds entangling with the rear entanglement is negligible
I can't even imagine what that young man thought when that parachute didn't open. The terror he must have felt must have been immense. How a place where 28 people have died due to negligence is unbelievable. It can't even be an accident when you're not being cautious.
if she has not been paid then she should go to the courts and have them rule that the sheriff go there and take the business and anything else to sell off to pay off the judgement
You literally sign a waiver that you might die and won't sue
@@kylespevak6781but his instructor was unlicensed voiding that agreement
@@kylespevak6781 Waivers don't mean anything if their is gross negligence from the business owner.
Waivers usually work if the organization did everything in their power to make something safe as possible. Even then it doesn't mean much as it's up to the judge if they'll throw the waiver out or not. In this case, it doesn't seem like an airtight organization. Another OceanGate.
I live very close to this sky diving place. I pass it quite often on the freeway. I think about the people that passed away every time I pass by.
The nerve of that old geezer, he is now used to see many dying. 😢
28 death 💀 💔 😳 😢 they need to close the sky diving centre as soon as possible
My jaw is literally still on the floor. This place is disgusting, and that old man and his business needs to be put out of business immediately!!
That is an awful way to die. This business should be closed immediately. I pray for that mother. She will never forget this.
she did put her fake lashes and make up on for the camera..

I instantly knew it was gonna be about the place in Lodi. I heard so many stories about that place on the local news when I was growing up
He feels no remorse saying it “was no one’s fault.
Zero!!
Yeah but that was during communism capitalism you can jump without a parachute
And this is another reason why I’ll never do this. Rest in peace to both of them
Right
Why is the owner not yet in jail? He still hasn't paid the family of those who died! 😡
How long do you think his going to last in jail at his age 😮
@@tommillia7816 The rest of his not sorry life? You don't get out of jail free just bc ur a crypt keeper yanno.
I mean before you skydive you do sign a waver that your family wont sue if you die
@@jamier.888 The waiver is null and void bc the skydiving instructor was unlicensed and the death was preventable bc he didn't know what to do at the crucial moment when he would have if he had his license. If the dude had his license and they still died it would have been just bad luck. But bc he didn't, it was a crime and they can sue.
@@kymo6343 doesn’t matter if your license or unlicensed you still need to sign a waiver
0:43 👈🏼 I’m not a skydiver and I can tell you why they died. They released the first parachute and didn’t open, then they released the second parachute and it got tangled with the first one. Pulling the first one and then open the second, was the only way to be saved.
Wow! This is insane. I skydived for my 25th Birthday and the thought of dying never crossed my mind. Now, I realize how naive I was.
The owner sitting on national TV saying he doesn’t feel responsible is crazy!!
“Unfortunately I don’t.” Not even a sorry that this happened
Man if a company killed that many people over the years they should probably close there doors and relearn everything
I live in Sacramento and have heard terrible things about this place on the local news for many many years now SMH. There’s no freaking way I would have gifted my child this after knowing this place’s history.
She sent her son to death but let's pretend she's innocent cause publicly no woman can be guilty
Can’t imagine giving that as a graduation gift and have it go that bad. That poor woman
So many deaths at this place It should have been closed decades ago. I see the signs advertising 'skydiving' every time I drive to Sacramento.
This place is in California, the most over regulated state ever, yet they allow this place to stay open?
What’s unsettling to me about these skydive companies is that they cheapen out on EVERYTHING. It’s always a rundown decades-old plane, a dilapidated hangar, and old discolored parachutes.
Yeah, I've noticed that too.
Crypt keeper skydiving academy
Not without a funny monster pun, such as “Skydieving” lol

If you owe the govt a few dollars they will arrest you asap...but a judgement of $40 million due to negligence and you can continue to be corrupt, keep your stuff, and run your business.
I heard about this and found out several others have died and the “instructor” he was with had no business being an instructor. Several of us put warnings out about fatalities at this facility but many others claim to have a good experience there even though the owner is very unpleasant and didn’t take the training video seriously. If one facility has that many fatalities especially with cheap prices then I would ask yourself “is it worth it for a cheap dive”?
That skydive business owner has gone stone cold
"Close down, would that make it safer", yes that would 100% make it safer
Right
The gall of this old dude to get on the news just to tell them he regrets nothing and will not pay anything for the accident he’s ultimately responsible for. That’s wild.
I think he made the right call it is the choice of the person to skydive and they always accept risk of an accident happening strong wing etc he is not selling this to children
I’m from Sacramento maybe 10 minutes North of lodi and just reading the title I knew it was Lodi. Baffles me how people still go there
The lack of remorse from the owner is absolutely disgraceful and disgusting! Should be shut down!
This is why you dont jump out of planes
Its one thing if the plane is going down, and you have a parachute, but that airplane was flying perfectly well.
Skydiving actually isn’t as dangerous as you’d expect - it has an average of 1 fatality per around 200,000 jumps according to the source I found. This skydiving center seems to just be horrifyingly negligent
@@p_rry On the other hand, its pretty dangerous at the wrong place it seems.
If I'm going on a skydive, it wouldn't be there. @@p_rry
Technically. A sport parachute is just an inflatable plane. It's just an inflatable wing.
Thats crazy hes not going to pay up??? Lock that old man up
Everything aside but the fact that this guy is not emotional at all when someone dies is just disgusting and really sad
Yes closing your doors would actually make it safer
Ayyy this is my hometown Lodi!! Haha I grew up always hearing about the stories of this place, this place is the reason why I will never jump out of a plane 😅
" Your jumping out of a plane with a sheet tied to your back, it's an accident if you land on the ground and survive " - Jim Cornette
Not that this guy has very much time left, but he should be extremely ashamed of himself for what he did, and he should be sentenced the rest of his life in prison. He is treating this situation as if they were worthless.
I've done 2 tandems and the experience is out of this world. Part of the process was investigating the operations, their safety record before signing up. You don't sign up for something this risky on a whim.
The owner is at fault here. His disregard for the number of deaths as 'being a part of life' is irresponsible and callous.
Hopefully, the FAA investigates and revoke his license. Maybe he'll care then.
My condolences for the families grieving for their loved ones.
His instructors aren't licensed and they don't care
Damn this dude is kind of a murderer honestly. Skydiving shouldn’t be dangerous if you know what you’re doing.
He's been filled with hate and lack of empathy for a long time...
How has this place not been shut down and the owner jailed?! This is more than an “accident,” it’s complete negligence over and over again by a psychopath that keeps getting away with it!
This really took a "turn" huh.
What a horrible thing to tell a mother who just lost her beloved son. There should’ve been an investigation and that’s what he should’ve said. I would be getting the litigation teams out. This old is not accepting any responsibility obviously.
I don't think he can get any worse for a mother. Not only was she there, she got it for him as a gift and sent him to his death. As tragic as it gets. So much life ahead of him
I went skydiving at this same place back in 2008. A week after I jumped someone died from a failed parachute.
