How This Skydiver Survived a Horrific Fall

- Jordan Hatmaker incredibly survived a skydiving accident in November of 2021. It was her 16th solo jump, which, "in the skydiving world, that's like super new," she tells Inside Edition Digital. Her main parachute didn't come out and she gravity pulled her towards the ground. "It all happened really quickly. So when I was headed towards the ground, I was just thinking this is really going to hurt. I didn't think that I would sustain the injuries that I had."
Thinking "This is gonna hurt" instead of "I'm gonna die", that's hope man.
I dunno. I feel like it's optimistic to say that's optimism lmao. Idiocy... Maybe break a bone??? Bro
Almost like delusional in most cases
I was in a tornado (literally) and my thought was just "Damn, this is how I die." It is a weird calmness. I survived (ofc lol).
@@jamieohjamieActually like IN one?
@@carolinegraceh Yeah. In a bus but in one all the same.

My husband broke c1, c2, c3 and c7 after diving off a dock at the lake and was supposed to be paralyzed but instead was recovered fully 6 months later and back to work. Its absolutely amazing to see another person who went through a similar injury make such an amazing come back as well. I thank modern medicine every day and thank you for sharing this inspiring story
C3PO ?
I broke my c2 3 times horseback riding. They screwed it back together multiple times and I missed the spinal cord every single time. The vertebrae I broke should have ended my life or paralyzed me immediately. I am making a full recovery. I carried two babies to term with my spine broken in between spinal surgeries. With God anything is possible. I had to learn to walk again after I lost the nerves to my left knee. It took 4 grueling years but I got back in the ballet studio this month. God is so good!!!!
A hate my brain 😭 my immediate thought was, "damn this dude cant stop crashing Corvettes" 😂

you should thank God. God made the concept of medicine possible and for doctors to have the strength to keep making it
Wow that was crazy she survived skydiving how that's one in a million odds now She's Super Lucky.

Legend huh.. should change her name from Jordan to Zelda
its just a matter of time... reminds me of Jessi combs.. i told all my friends she wont last long doing what she do..
She’s lucky, not a legend.
A legend? Not really.
This happened to an ex bf of mine when he was 26. He was an experienced instructor and he was taking a guy on a tandem jump and it was the guys first time. He froze with terror and failed to pull the chord on the chute while my ex was shouting instructions at him. They plummeted to the ground and my guy was conscious through all of it. He was left a paraplegic while the other guy walked away with no injuries. It changed my guys life....he had been a champion kickboxer and loved his rugby and soccer. He suffered burning pain in his legs for the rest of his life. I used to massage them. He was still able to drive and he could walk a bit with calipers but he was mostly in a wheelchair. He suffered awful depressions and nothing could bring him out of it. He eventually gave up on life, didn't take care of himself and died in hospital of an infection when he was in his 40's.
He didn’t have a cord to pull?? I thought there was 2
I didn’t expect it to end like that. I’m sorry for your loss
@@davidforden Thank you.
@@elainekellogg6345 He couldn't reach his, I don't know why......but the other guy could but didn't as he froze with terror.
So sorry to hear that 😢

lol yeah
As someone who survived a motorcycle accident and herniated c3 through c7, these videos give me anxiety. But, it’s also such a relief when I hear of a happy ending.
Wow. Survived and is not paralyzed, amazing.
that's God looking out for her. no amount of bone/muscle/tendon/ligament strength should be able to compensate a fall from that height without a lifetime injury.
You get in that type of accident and still do it after is very strong and shows you how much she loves doing this type of things
It's not strong it just means she still wants to do it
It's not a great idea.
She is definitely single.

Something I’ve never wanted to do. 😳 Glad ya made it there braveheart.
My ex who abandoned his kids sent me a random video of him skydiving and said he loved and missed his kids. I said “too bad your parachute opened”. Lucky girl. 👍🏼
She’s lucky, really really lucky.
Her guardian angel was working overtime
There's another woman here on RUclips with a similar story (pilot chute wrapped around her foot) and she was doing a tandem jump. (Raleigh Link). That's too much risk for me...
They say that with spinal cord injuries, while not all will heal, the earlier you start PT the better your chances, even in complete SCI. I think your (her) optimism absolutely helped
I will never understand why people pay thousands of dollars to potentially fall to their deaths.

This gal was SO BLESSED to survive this horrific accident. She's beautiful and her light shines bright. Truly .....TRULY this young woman is GRACED. A MIRACLE happened. A coworker of mine lost her daughter to this exact accident. This occurred years ago, but the memory of her mother's pain is still strong, unfortunately.😪😪
Was she blessed by falling all that way to the ground? Was that a blessing?
@hawaiisidecar did you read?? She is definitely the lucky one to survive and continue almost normal life. So yes, she is blessed.
@@3CandiesInTX Was she blessed when the chute failed?
@@hawaiisidecar no, she was blessed to be alive and still blessed after the chute failed

I love how inside edition posts these uplifting versions of these horrific accidents. Lots of uplifting videos by this channel. Great job
That beautiful skydiver is lucky to be alive and has my respect. I like how she is comfortable sharing her story with the Inside Edition audience.
This lady is an inspiration, I mean regardless of her injuries, paralysis and everything else;
She kept GOING and didn't let fear take her and still continues to do what she loves!

Facts. It makes no sense.
I agree but thinking more deeply, that logic goes for anything, you can’t always be cautious about everything in life sometimes you need to have some fun.

I'll add a third, Victoria Cilliers.. her husband and jumping partner tampered with her chute in an attempt to cash in on her life insurance payout...
She now lives in Wiltshire with her two children and continues to work as a physiotherapist for the Ministry of Defence and wrote a book called "I Survived"
There is also true crime content here on youtube if you search her name or Emile, her husband's
@@Faesharlyn That is incredible. Thank you for telling me about this amazing woman!
Why would you take unnecessary risks with your life? Life is very precious and once it's gone, you can never get it back again.
You're right, when it's gone you never get it back, so why spend it bored and miserable, when you could spend it doing more risky stuff but which actually makes you feel alive? It's different for everyone, and your choice not to do risky things is valid, but it's very personal and up to each individual to decide for themselves
So I’m assuming you don’t travel by car, bike, or plane, correct?
She’s a living testimony!!! She’s not lucky she’s blessed
Play at 1.5 speed
Haha, thank you. Some people just aren’t especially gifted storytellers
And that is why we (skydivers) always practice our emergency procedures. After the bridal of the pilot chute wrapped around her leg, she should have pulled the cutaway handle first, then the reserve handle second. Instead, she wasted precious time trying to unwrap the bridal from around her leg. The AAD (Automatic Activation Device) fired off the reserve parachute which she said caused the closing pin to slip out, which caused the main chute to fall of of the container and deploy into a down plane malfunction. Had she had time to address that malfunction, she should have realized that the reserve chute was the dominant chute and she should have tried to cutaway the main chute. She is very lucky that she is alive.
“He/She died doing what they loved” is wrong. In anyone’s final moments, they rather live- not have the parachute fail/bungee cord break, etc.
that's not the point of the saying, obviously nobody wants to get into an accident, it's the activity itself. if I got injured while mountain biking then I had fun before i got injured
Jordan you're amazing.. keep up the great work on your road to recovery !! Cheers from Canada
I’d rather do a skydiving tunnel than actually skydiving.

As a scuba diver, I totally admire the people who willingly jump out of planes. Going deep underwater doesn’t scare me at all, but the thought of falling through the sky from that high up terrifies me. I can not imagine having to be in this girls position. Mad respect to all you sky diving psychopaths out there. Stay safe ✌️

Great explanation as to why we skydive. I'm glad you survived, what a story
Moral of the story don't tempt fate
A friend of mine snapped both of her legs in a skydiving accident. The fall was videotaped and they played the song “ Everyone Hurts” for the background music as you can see ambulances, and people running to help her.. lucky to be alive for sure.
Glad you survived sorry you got hurt.

I was so happy to see you on your feet knowing you had use of your legs again. Happy for your recovery. Aloha from Hawaii.
She's amazing!!
She's very lucky to have been able to recover enough to climb Everest about a year later. I know someone who had a lot more skydiving experience and just had a rough/fast landing one day and suffered a spinal cord injury at the neck level and is now quadriplegic.
That must have been very scary.
Don’t jump out of planes and you never have to worry about this.
Thx 😊
@@PoptartzGT you’re welcome

This reminds me of a king of the hill episode where Peggy survived a skydiving accident.
What a champ! U r amazing! Love your story!
Inside edition with the crappy misleading title again
I am happy she survived, but she clearly didn't take her training seriously enough. She should know exactly what to do in these situations.
1. As she said, she should have pulled her reserve. She fought the malfunction way too long. A high-speed malfunction gives you very little time, and emergency procedures should have been done more or less immediately.
2. There is only 1 thing to do with a downplane, CUTAWAY!
3. Her attitude towards jumping is dangerous. As Dan BC says (champion skydiver with over 30000 jumps), expect everything that can go wrong to go wrong on every jump. Basically, be prepared for the worst.
I don't have that many jumps but would never step foot on a jump plane without knowing exactly what to do in all the possible situations.
I hope she uses this experience to become a safer skydiver if she decides to continue jumping and starts drilling in her ep's like her life depends on it because it does.
I wanted to jump out of a plane but I am deathly afraid of heights. I am glad she survived the accident
Well, you got the rush you were looking for!
Very lucky any bit of a parachute cane out at all definitely saved her life. Nothing coming out at all would be fatal
Tandem skydiving with a professional is amazing and so much less scarier than you think. You don’t lose your stomach the way you do on a rollercoaster, because you’re already moving in the airplane you jump out of. I guarantee you, any roller coaster at Six Flags will be a scarier ride due to g-forces & your organs being swayed around. The scariest part of 1st time skydiving is the plane ride up, not the jump. Like a hot air balloon ride, it’s shockingly quiet up there- you can even have a chat.
Damn, she’s got a lot of money to be able to pay the hospital bills and then afford to go climb mount everest
Jesus that’s crazy
She climbed Mt.Everest after going through that. This isn't your average woman.
You're so strong 😊
I do not want to know or experience the unknown excitement of skydiving, nor I envy people who know or has the experience...please do whatever you please, risk your precious life for whatever it is....

If i saw that helicopter come and get me, I'd be praying for my bank account just as much as my life.
How did she land? I’m curious how one can survive that fall. Like feet first, tuck into a ball, etc
If one were to jump out of a car going 100 mph, everyone would say they deserved it when they get injured, but we're supposed to feel bad for this trail blazer when she jumps out of a plane.
Fast recovery ❤
i wish they described the conditions that made it possible for her to survive
God bless her 💕
Along with my terrible fear of heights, this is a example of exactly why I have zero interest in jumping out of a plane and not willing to put my life in the hands of a parachute 😢,no thanks I will stay on the ground 😢
I too have an extreme fear of heights, and PROMISED myself to NEVER jump out of a plane... EVER.
Then my friend tricked me to go watch him jump at the airport...he said.."As long as you're here, why don't you sign up
for the 1 day jump course? YOU DON'T HAVE TO JUMP."...Was about to scream "NO WAY!"....but saw ALL THE GORGEOUS 1st jump students, and instructors💗💋💗 Said "yes" and did 49 jumps over the course of following year.
The camera men NEVER DIES OR GET HURT I SWEAR
Skydiving almost killed her but failed so she climbs Everest. Mad respect to this woman.
