    Do you have things shipped by USPS in the prepaid box where weight doesn't matter, probably be cheaper for things like brei, let me know and Ill but together a package for you.

    • @ToNomeAndBeyond
      @ToNomeAndBeyond  3 года назад

      Yeah, some stuff we have sent to us via Amazon, sometimes it come in USPS and sometimes direct to the door. Other times we have to go to one of the airlines processing place out by the airport. There is no direct to door mail, but UPS does that.
      Never done a pre-paid box -- never heard of it.
      Something to look in to.

    Wow...how do you survive with those prices?? In summer months, I can get a 12 pack cans of soda just like you bought for 1.88, mostly around summer holidays like 4th of july. If you are paying 5 or 6 times prices for food, I would assume the wages in your area are 5 or 6 times higher??? If not, how do you survive...

    Those are shockingly high food costs. It should never be that way. God bless.

    • @ToNomeAndBeyond

      It's the cost of getting food here....has to be flown in....thus heavier and bulkier thing cost WAY more than in lower 48 and things in general more expensive across the state, juat more so in remote areas.

      No reason to stick around, the ones that do are the Birders, the rest come and look and leave. Either to someplace else remote, or back to civilization. Also you can get care package from elsewhere to take the sting out of buying stuff. We had my friends parents for that.

    • @randallrobert332
      @randallrobert332 2 года назад

      @@ToNomeAndBeyond That really sucks. What's really stupid is our government could find a way to make it cheaper like spending some of those billions of taxpayers money sending weapons to another country to help fight a war that isn't even close to being are fight Not to mention leaving hundreds of millions in military equipment over seas to the enemy when they could instead take that money and figure out how they could make it cheaper for all of you clear up in Nome Alaska.

    • @ToNomeAndBeyond
      @ToNomeAndBeyond  2 года назад

      @@randallrobert332 yeah....infrastructure in Alaska is a big deal. But I think the tax base here and sparse populations over a SUPER MASSIVE area is hard justify a lot of spending on...right now post is really slow cuz it has to stop in Seattle then Anchorage, then it's a matter of passengers first on planes and then what the rest the plane can carry....so your heavy item might take longer to fit on a plane for delivery. Also, FedEx and USPS don't deliver to the door here....and a lot of places won't deliver to a PO box. So it's just hard.

      Well, TBH, some of what I bought wasn't budget conscious, I bought what I generally buy. I don't normally try to figure out the most economical trip. It was an average small trip FOR US...and doesn't reflect everyone's experience -- I am thinking about doing one that shows a more locally average trip, with things that aren't more fancy, like low-carb tortillas.

    • @ToNomeAndBeyond
      @ToNomeAndBeyond  3 года назад

      Yes, there are more people in AK receiving assistance per capita than any other state (at least according to google in 2014). But you must keep in mind how very rural and remote most of the state is -- where it costs a lot of even to just get basic resources to those locations which are often really subsistence level areas and as such these locations are generally poorer and require assistance. Tribal organizations and gov't services provide assistance to a good number of people, sure.
