- This is the first of many videos documenting our move to Nome and wherever the universe takes us going forward.
In this video I had just really made it to Alaska from Minnesota.

Any Alien sightings? Serious Question. I watched a movie called "The Fourth Kind" set in nome Alaska. Plus all the documentaries. Thank you kindest thoughts to you and your family from Victoria Australia
None -- and there are NO TREES IN NOME!!! Hahah. That show is way off in how it portrays Nome. That said, there have been a lot missing indigenous peoples over the years in the Nome area.

Yeah....Nome is a pretty sweet place....like all places it's a mixed bag....there are things that are meh and things that are amazing.

Thanks! I am not very good at doing regular videos, but I try. :) and you really should visit sometime....late fall is probably my favorite time or year....if you wanna fish. Otherwise mid-late spring is cool cuz of all the birds that come through.
I lived in Nome seven yrs. My daughter is half Inupiat we now live in California.

How much does it cost to live there for a month? How much is your rent?

The water got into the outlet boxes. The wires are probably burnt. A tell tale outward sign is the outlet cover screw will be rusty if you look close. Very dangerous, I just re flashed windows and replaced the burnt outlets.
Yeah....idk....I know the landlord fixed a leak or two before we moved in.
Great info video... how much is the monthly rent at your house?
Places range between 1k to 3000 a month here....that place lower middle range....and places are REALLY hard to come by.
Insane. Year-round summer. Free water. Small investment for solar and free energy. 3 acres for 20000. Build what you want and no one bothers. Puna is Paradise

That's shocking. Landlord is an ahole, I bet he just takes the money and doesn't give a crap about other Human's and Animal's. Nah...the landlord was fine. He's a great guy too, it's just hard and SUPER SUPER expensive to fix stuff and unless renters let him know it's in bad condition ( previous renters didnt) he can't fix it and with renter turnover so high here it's really hard to get in to do major repairs...so he has to let it sit empty to fix it up....and even finding ppl that able to fix some of the stuff is challenging sometimes....all this I didn't really know when I made that video.
There was 100k people in Nome in the early 1900..then a fire burned the town down. It never got that high again
I think 100k was the Klondike strike, here it was more 20k.
@@ToNomeAndBeyond the city itself was 100 k in around 1900..that's what I read and was told when I lived there for 9 years ..

You're right, that would have been cool, I hadn't thought about it when I made it. Originally the channel was just for our family in the midwest...until I started getting views and doing other things. Now, it'd be a very expensive trip to take a video of the outside of someone else's place, and a 4000 mile trip :). But the landlord did a BUNCH of updates on the place about a year after we moved out...many things we struggled with were fixed.
@@ToNomeAndBeyond The reason I ask is because that house is on the market and I’m interested in buying it. Any advice? Did it get flooded in last year’s typhoon?
@danielgrubb9668 not that I know of....he might just want to unload it, it still had a good deal of work it needed. It's subsiding pretty bad and it's not a stilt home so shoring that up would be a real pain.

Nome reminds me of my hometown..... minus the permafrost and ocean. I know people want to disparage small towns...... anywhere in the US. I’ve lived in a zillion places and I guarantee there is something positive about everywhere.

If you go upstairs in the courthouse, dureing the right time..you can watch Beluga whales swim by..only birds are ptarmigan, sht Hawks, snow owl, geese and an occasional pair of swans..course seagulls and crows are around

It's expensive...between 1400 to 2400 is, I think average.
@@ToNomeAndBeyond no way ??? Omg for that where your living? How can you possibly survive there. I mean the groceries, utilities would be huge. Is it true you get a payment from the Alaskan Government $1000 a month? Thank you
@@Judy.LoveandLightAlways Not the creator of the video, nor do I live there, but Natives will typically get some amount of money a month from their tribal orginizations, as the isolated villages will often not have any living wage jobs avaliable (By isolation, I mean litteraly only 30-100 people living off the road system.) All races, however, get a fund of around 1000 per *year* which, as you can imagine, is not nearly enough to live off of.

It's not that bad really. Sure there is an alcoholism issue, like many communities. However, there's so much more than that.

Me? I work from home doing what I did back in Minnesota. My wife, on the other works in mental health care up here, which is brought us up here.
@@ToNomeAndBeyond Ah I thought it might be the lure of Gold. I've been watching a program Cold blooded Alaska. Be careful up there. It seems to be a very violent place Alaska as a lot of bad people flee there.🙂
@@ciaranbyrne62 not so much bad people because everyone is reasonably nice to each other, no telling when you need help ..it's the weather and possibly bears that are really dangerous.
