That’s pretty cool. My grandpa recorded hours of video too. He & grandma were married 75 yrs. Just wish he could of been here to see this technology. I did do some capture using a dvd recorder. But being his age, he never did grasp the concept. Thanks again. Ordering the Elgato today.

I noticed your vcr had an s-video output. I think you should use that if available. I believe its a better video quality than the yellow composite video connection.

I got the the other dat and my video caprures seem to have a darker screen and the audio is out of sink on some. Anyone have similar problems?
Your video playback is extremely unstable as you can see from the horrible "tearing" in the upper part of the screen. Is there a TRACKING adjustment on your VCR. If there is, and it does NOT fix the poor playback problem, then you'll need a time base corrector (TBC) to stabilize the playback. Or, you could try a different VCR that -- with luck -- might play back a lot better.

It’s better to record it to Digital having it on a DVD is only last a couple of years after that you lose the information on a DVD and if the DVD scratches up then you’re out of luck
Dvd are good to play a DVD players but it’s always good to have back ups of your family videos on Drive hard drive or the Cloud

You should have used an S-Video cable to connect.
Why wouldn't you use the S-VHS connector when your beautiful deck has S-VHS out? The S-VHS signal is superior to the composite signal (the yellow connection).

They are so many ways to record VHS to digital It depends on what you want and what kind of computer you have if you want to record it on your computer

You have to have a Time base corrector And they’re very hard to fine and they do not make it anymore
I purchased one of this some days ago but unfortunately it doesn't work with Mac OS Catalina... Hope they will update the software...
It works perfectly well with Mac OS Catalina now. I'm grateful Elgato did an update.

NOTE: For the elgato device, you should install the elgato drivers and the elgato software BEFORE you plug the hardware into your PC.

My old family videos are all on like video cassette tapes (like VHS tapes but a lot smaller) that are viewable using the old camera we used. I'm young and not familiar with the older equipment and terms so if anyone has any advice for me on how to digitalize my videos I would greatly appreciate it.
you need the vhs adapter from what it sounds like. That small cassette goes into the adapter which then you put into the player to be watched or recorded.

@@MidnightMan I just got everything to work using the camcorder. The only problem is that the audio is one-sided. It's more noticable with headphones on because you can only hear it on one ear. I made sure my computer audio was balanced. Do you know how I might fix this problem? Or maybe that's just how the recording is
I'm pretty sure it's because I don't have all three yellow red and white cords plugged into the camcorder at once
