Same here. All Genesis does is capture looks from other brands and meld them together. Also, luxury doesn't always mean stuffing every bell & whistle into a vehicle. Sometimes, it just means elegant simplicity which Mazda does well!
The wireless phone projector works very well on the GV80, however, it was a recent OTU that requires pushing some buttons at the car to install, so maybe that one doesn't have it installed. Another thing is that you have to full disconnect the phone, and redo the connection wirelessly to get it work. After doing that, is great, responsive and works every single time. The best wireless connection that I have experience in any car.
I would go with the Mazda and keep the extra $20K. I would really consider the Mazda if only they did at least two things: Make the touch screen a REAL touch screen and two, hybridize their inline-6 like Volvo does with their vehicles. This would make the Mazda perform similar to a BMW X5. This would make the Mazda an awesome car.
1. Mazda screen is hybrid - touch and “non-touch” (?). Kept it this way on purpose- they say it’s for safety reasons while driving. Personally, I also feel using the rotary dial is safer while driving. Touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 2. Mazda’s inline-6 is a mild hybrid already like the Volvo and has nice fuel efficiency. Somehow you’re unaware of it.
@@100pssnep I meant hybridizing it like Volvo’s T8 Recharge. A plug in hybrid. I currently own one and love it. The electric motor makes it possible to have 455hp and very quick 0-60. Great to have it when you need it. If Mazda were to add an electric motor to thier inline 6 like they do with their 4cylinder, that would make it an awesome car. Hope this clarifies my previous comment.
I do not like your review because you down Mazda for build quality without justification. Build quality is not about options you do not like. Build quality refers to how well it is assembled and will last. Hyundai owns Genesis and their engines have had significant quality issues (mostly engine issues) in the past. Mazda has a new drive train in this model. So, overall, you do not yet know about build quality. I know that the assembly plant in Japan is top-notch. Do not know about the Genesis plant build quality. I prefer actual data on something like "build quality" rather than a subjective opinion not attached to any factual evidence showing this logical conclusion. Thank you.
CX70 is comparable to a higher-end Palisade or Telluride, not GV80. I own a CX90 (inline6 Premium Plus) and a Genesis GV60 (and I drove a GV70 as a loaner before) and in terms of luxury, materials used, ride quality, and features, they are not in the same class. Genesis feels way more like a luxury car. I wouldn't compare CX70 to a GV70 either.
Mazda has been well known to read comments of their vehicle reviews to better understand their customer. I’m curious what features/changes would you make to the Mazda to consider paying more for it? Or at this point, and feature set, you wouldn’t spend more money on a Mazda even if it met your criteria for luxury. Thanks
Previous Genesis employee here. His comment about the 2.5 liter turbo engine that is available in the GV80 only being available in “base models” couldn’t be further from correct. You can have a roughly $74,330 fully loaded GV80 with the 2.5 liter turbo engine in the “2.5 T Prestige AWD” trim and it is definitely not a “base model.” That would be the “Standard” or maybe the “Select” trim level.

So, as a CX-70 PHEV Premium owner who paid way less for a new vehicle than any Genesis GV80 or a BMW X5 xDrive50e, a BMW beats both Asian SUVs in performance (for $77K), but the Genesis almost ties it in the luxury category.
