  • I'm thrilled to share with you a special performance of Salih Saidashev's "Adriatic Sea" (Edren Dinges). This song, originally written for the play "True Love," tells the story of an Albanian nurse who saved a Soviet soldier. The play was initially set in Yugoslavia, but due to political changes, the setting was moved to Albania to pass censorship.
Salih Saidashev is the founder of Tatar professional music. He synthesized the experiences of early folk composers and centuries-old traditions with European musical influences and folklore, creating genuinely national and professional art. Despite never seeing the Adriatic Sea, Saidashev turned to Albanian students at Kazan University for inspiration, incorporating their melodies into his composition.
The appeal of this piece lies in its use of national Albanian melodies, which beautifully capture the sea's power and grandeur. The song remains popular for its complex harmonies and rhythms, posing a challenge to musicians.
This piece is particularly meaningful to me as I was born in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, and lived there for 24 years before moving to Switzerland.
I hope you enjoy this performance and I would be excited to get to know your opinion about Tatar music! Would you like to hear more?

I know nothing about Tatar music and am limited in my grasp of classical genere as a whole (despite owning/playing many records from this family of music, and sing in a church which incorporates classical, sacred music…)
All I know is that I love this sound, want to hear more of it, and like the other respondent am charmed by the story and origins of this sparkling, deeply lovely music!! I would purchase your recordings if you have made such records.

Klingt wie eine sanfte Brandung der bekannten Adria, aber berührt nicht von der hiesigen Brise, sondern von einem Wind aus einer neuen Welt.
