It's not the only car that does this. I drive a VW Polo GTI and it also has the battery in the boot (probably a combination of better weight distribution and the engine bay being taken up by the bigger engine). Not hating, by the way - I was an engineer for one of the key components for the GR Yaris (and, I guess, the Corolla too), and have a soft spot spot for these cars.

Just put 2000 miles in 4 days on my brand new Circuit edition. Took a road trip to Los Angeles and took care of the break in miles in one day. After that I drove it like I stole it and the car just loved being thrashed. Also went to Toyota fest in Long Beach it was a blast. The only thing that held me back was I had a Thule motion 3 XL roof carrier on top that limited my top speed on the highway but still got 26 mpg going 80 mph. What a car!!!!
FL5 Civic Type R, GR Corolla and GR Yaris are the greatest hot hatches and homage to ICE hot hatches. Thank you Japan for always making the great passionate driving machines that are engineered to perfection.
The Civic Type R is a great car but just because It "technically" has a hatched back door.. i mean cmon man that is one of the ugliest cars ive ever seen.. a hot hatch has a very specific look too it, starting with the golf.. and the 90s civic hatches and so on.. the new one. so gross.

I got a GR Corolla RZ in Japan for £25400, replacing a GR Yaris RZ and it is a great balance of convenience and fun. Best of all, my wife doesn't notice the price when I tell her I'm buying a Corolla. She believes it's a £14,000 car.

@@Jeyxero legamax, i was torn between rk titanium and hks but the reason why I went with HKS is bc i didnt want my neighbors hating me haha. There’s drone but it’s not terrible. I’ve heard AWE has their 180 technology that takes drone away significantly and DC sports is making an exhaust as well
You can import one from Canada (if LHD and speedo in km/h is your choice), however the total price will be €60k or even more, not to mention waiting for available unit which can take months. Such a shame, but there's that Toyota marketing policy to have three GR models on each market (Europe has Supra, GR86, and GR Yaris).

I owned a Morizo and a Yaris. Sold the Morizo and kept the Yaris only because the Yaris is much lighter. But that shorter ratio between 2nd and third on the Morizo gearbox was a peach. I wish they fitted it to the Yaris. It would have made a sensational car.
Even if it is a three cylinder 1.6l, the engine were never design to prioritize the fuel efficiency. It's literally design to be powerful in a compact size engine. I did read an article about how a gasoline engine would have the maximum power while being fuel efficient if each cylinder isn't exceeding 0.5l. Any bigger than that is likely for power/performance reason.
It's actually pretty good on fuel I've often returned consumption of between 6-7L per 100km I was in disbelief when I got 6.0 but then it happened again that with aircon on but I got all green light speed limit of between 50-80km/h over 15-17km But more often I see 6.3-6.7 on the same trip so yeah for an almost 1500kg car with a performance heart I'd say that's quite frugal

German cars are also very cheap in Japan. A Golf VIII GTI costs just €32,000 (£27,000) there. In Germany, it costs upwards of €40,000, even though the car is built in Wolfsburg, Germany. The same thing happens when German cars are exported to the USA. A BMW 3 Series made in Germany is much cheaper in the USA than in Germany, even though all the transport costs are added on. They would make that Corolla much more expensiv for Europe.

Mr. didn’t do his research doesn’t seem to understand the circuit addition is also a special edition with modifications on it. What he doesn’t understand is that Toyota builds the Core nonperformance, which is the base model. They don’t build the Morizo edition anymore. The circuit addition is also limited, and it is the current top tier edition.

They are catching on fire. and a module under the dash tells the mechanic the car was going over 85mph. so insurance will only cover a small portion of the cost. if you go over that speed.
If this came to Europe and the UK I doubt it would take any sales from a competitor like the Golf GTI Clubsport. The Golf is fractionally lighter (1461 vs 1475), has an extra cylinder and akrapovic options for the exhaust etc, as well as more convenience features. And then there will be Golf R/Audi S3 etc as well to consider at that price point. The GR Yaris makes more sense in Europe because there is nothing like it on the market. Just my thoughts 🤷♂️
The Corolla is for actual driving enthusiasts just like Type R. The boring old Golf is for your NPC's who dont know how to drive and attention seek with 12 year old school kids with their fart blast exhausts.
couldnt have said it better myself... who would pay that money when you could get a Golf R or audi S3 which both look better IMO, the GR carola looks good now.. but its going to age terribly.. just like a lot of cars coming out right now.. trucks as well.. they are just going so insane with all the angles and flares.. and not in a good way.. but you can thrash on toyotas and they will last forever and keep their value.. Highway driving is the absolute worst way to break in an engine. They need variety, not constant speed.

There are few for sale in Europe but at 75k€, you'd have to be insane or rich die-hard Toyota fan to buy one.

I have a GR Corolla , not that upgrade though, and it's fun to drive. Not the fastest car I've owned but it's great.
If this came to Europe and the UK I doubt it would take any sales from a competitor like the Golf GTI Clubsport. The Golf is fractionally lighter (1461 vs 1475), has an extra cylinder and akrapovic options for the exhaust etc, as well as more convenience features. And then there will be Golf R/Audi S3 etc as well to consider at that price point. The GR Yaris makes more sense in Europe because there is nothing like it on the market. Just my thoughts 🤷♂️

The Corolla is for actual driving enthusiasts just like Type R.
The boring old Golf is for your NPC's who dont know how to drive and attention seek with 12 year old school kids with their fart blast exhausts.
couldnt have said it better myself... who would pay that money when you could get a Golf R or audi S3 which both look better IMO, the GR carola looks good now.. but its going to age terribly.. just like a lot of cars coming out right now.. trucks as well.. they are just going so insane with all the angles and flares.. and not in a good way.. but you can thrash on toyotas and they will last forever and keep their value.. Ive got mad respect for the brand.. but yea im buying a german hot hatch at that price point not a toyota that looks like it was designed for 15 year olds.
Agreed. Even the standard Golf GTI 8.5 will be faster than this.
The Corolla isnfor actual car enthusiasts who enjoy driving. Your Audis and Golfs are for NPCs and sheeps who know nothing about cars or driving and think german whips make them cool. The Corolla is the king here against som3 plastic german hatches.
Bring both versions to the UK. Love the faster version and the colour. Great video.👍
