  • How does Zinc help your body, is 50mg of Zinc too much and should you take Zinc supplements?
    #zinc #zincsupplements #zincsulfate
    What is Zinc?
Zinc is an essential trace element, which means that the body cannot generate it on its own or store it; it has to come from your diet.
    Dietary Sources of Zinc:
    • Chicken and other poultry.
    • Seafood, particularly shellfish like oysters, crab, mussels and lobster.
    • Nuts.
    • Grains, beans, lentils and split peas.
    • Spinach.
    • Dairy products - milk, yoghurt, cheese.
    • Fortified breakfast cereal.
    • Red meat
    Symptoms of Zinc Deficiency:
    • Losing weight.
    • Not feeling hungry.
    • Diarrhoea.
    • Having no energy.
    • Being more prone to infections, such as colds, coughs and chest infections.
    • Losing your hair.
    • Skin rashes.
    • Problems with eyesight, taste or smell.
    • Impotence.
    Symptoms in children and adolescents:
    • Halting of growth.
    • Delayed puberty.
    Development of learning difficulty.
    Causes of Zinc Deficiency:
    • Malnourishment
    • Being Vegetarian or Vegan
    • Pregnancy & breastfeeding
    • Ulcerative Colitis
    • Crohn's Disease
    • Coeliac Disease
    • Chronic diarrhoea
    • Alcohol addiction
    • Chronic liver or kidney disease
    • Taking high dose iron supplements
    • Acrodermatitis enteropathica
    Medications that interact with Zinc:
    • Penicillamine
    • Thiazide diuretics eg Bendrofluazide
    • Quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics eg Ciprofloxacin or Doxycycline
Please discuss your medications with your pharmacist if you are unsure.
    Zinc Supplement side effects:
    • Headaches.
    • An unpleasant taste.
    • Tummy ache.
    • Feeling sick (nausea), or being sick (vomiting).
    • Diarrhoea.
    • Indigestion.
    • Tiredness.
Never take more than the recommended amount, due to the risks of excess zinc.
    Cautions of Zinc Supplementation:
    • Zinc may accumulate in Acute Kidney Disease
    • Those with Haemochromatosis may absorb larger amounts of zinc.
    • Excess zinc supplementation can interfere with iron and copper absorption.
    • It can also reduce magnesium and calcium absorption.

@@HTB6493 it's a bummer the bowel transit time is so high on meat, almost like it shouldn't be consumed by humans. Our digestive track is three times the length of our torso, which is a common trait with plant eaters. We also don't have claws or teeth for it, and cooking the food simply removes nutrients. By all means stick to your meat though, I personally got off my flesh addiction and feel great physically because of it. It takes 2 days roughly with meat to get through, fruit/veggies less than a day, so yeah its a bit of a biological argument.

50 years ago in the USA, the doctors were mostly men, smoking a cigar, smelling like an ashtray. He comes in and says to me: What seems to be bothering you? What I wanted to say was.......you are. Today my doctor came in and never made eye contact with me, sat down at his desktop and started typing. He finally said: what seems to be troubling you? What I wanted to say is ......you are. No wonder we turn to RUclips to search for help in the medical field. Dr.Sam is the example every doctor should follow.

Sam, I am now 66 (from the UK). Until about 10 years ago, all my life I suffered with bad colds each winter - typically three per winter season. In 2010 I heard an article on the radio about zinc, so I started taking a supplement, 15mg of Zinc Citrate per day, (its cheap £1.50 for 30 tablets). The result is this: in the past 10 years I would have had ~ 30 colds, with chest infection. In those ten years I have had around 6 colds and without a chest infection. So I am convinced zinc acts as a prophylactic against colds and flu. I was also interested that you mentioned IBD, which I have suffered with since I was 22 and take Mesalazine each day. Thanks for your presentation, no other Physician has ever mentioned zinc to me. Philip Robinson.

From what I have read, a virus has to overcome a series of "hurdles" before it can penetrate a cell and insert its RNA into the nucleus, in order to reproduce. Zinc is involved in the efficiency of these "bio-chemical hurdles" .

Thank you so much for explaining this!❤ I started taking Zinc regularly this year. I haven't had the "usual" colds, flus, or other viruses. My mom & grandma have Macular Degeneration, so that was 1 of many reasons I started trying to be good about taking it every day. I've had a couple of years of being unable to eat enough food, so I was deficient in just about everything. I'm working with a Gastroenterologist - my esophagus had narrowed to 11x5mm, so my stomach was tiny & I had a hard time eating & keeping food down. My PCM missed this for over 2 years.

Great video. A point to note is that medical authorities around the globe quite simply CANNOT agree on recommended daily intakes of ANY vitamins or minerals. Logic would dictate that that RDI's would be made with an evidence base and that there would therefore be consensus. As an example, here in the UK our zinc RDI is 15mg daily for men AND women, not 11mg and 8mg. This kind of variation between nations makes a mockery of RDI's.
This is not to criticize you doctor, but rather to highlight the absurdity of the advice from the regulators.

Hi, I'm 67 year old surfer and suffer from chronic swimmers ear till i started zinc supplementation due to covid risk. Well ears are fine for the first time in decades. I also noticed my eyesight has improved quite markedly, I sit in the same spot most evenings that we watch netflix and used to struggle to read the descriptions of the shows on offer but after a month of zinc I can read it without any problems. Skin is also better. I'm vegan for about 20 years and vegetarian before that so must hav3 needed it. Kind regards Pete

Love your videos ..very factually informative ..one thing I seen on TV is when u take suppliments without food (including orange juice ) study's show u may only receive UPTO 5% of the nutrients .and if taken with food u get around 85% of the nutrients ..this was independently tested..I think it might have been on TARGET ..it has sumthing to do with digestion Vs urination and the 2 different cycles in the body and the way things are triggered etc

Hi! I love your channel! You seem so genuine and it's nice to see real information provided by a doctor. I'm wondering why zinc supplements are sold in 50mg capsules when that is too high for daily use. What about a dosage for a child? I'm living in Ukraine and it seems like everyone has or has had covid and I'd like to guard my girlfriend's daughter with vitamin D and zinc, but aren't sure what dose to give her. She's currently on 600 IUs of vitamin D.

Isn't getting Zinc from foods much more bioavailable then taking a synthetic or processed element?

Zinc i love it, it's a workhorse as its needed for making stomach acid, and cortisol control IE lowers high cortisol balancing cortisol and thyroid hormones... i usually take 50mg every other day now although i have taken it daily for a few months to build levels back up...
