Been a Bears fan for over 20 years, anguishing over the horrendous QB's we've had. One of those years I lived in Pittsburgh, and the Steelers became my adopted team. It was so fun to cheer for Big Ben that year. With all due respect to Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes, I'd prefer to have an 18 year Ben Roethlisberger career for a Bears QB. Don't think its gonna be Fields. Maybe one day.

    • @joemiller2205
      @joemiller2205 2 года назад +12

I agree with you. I commented that on another video, that if I could go back and put Brady or Manning in Ben’s place for 18 years instead, I’d still want Ben. There’s just nobody in the league more exciting to watch than a younger Ben in his prime playing his unorthodox backyard style football. The way he could extend plays wasn’t seen before. Watching him for the past 18 years as a Steelers fan, there have been so many times where he DOESNT end up making the play after he tries to extend it, and every time I always thought to myself “damn Ben is tough, if he were any other QB right now they would have blown the whistle 10 seconds ago”. Because he’s Ben and he’s made so many plays like that over the years, he had that reputation and it seemed like even if there was 0% chance he gets away from the defense the refs would never blow the whistle early to protect him the way you see them end some plays for other QBs instead of letting them actually get tackled. Because of that he took a lot of abuse over the years and is the most sacked QB in nfl history. Much appreciation from Steeler Nation for putting his body on the line for us for 18 years. He’ll probably be the all time Steeler great at QB for all of my life. Thank you 7!

Absolutely an amazing quarterback. He was a strong, rough, tough quarterback. I remember one game when he got his nose broken. It was literally sideways on his face. He came out for one play. Just long enough for the trainer to reset his nose and he was back in. He could have had atleast another two years of playing time if he didn't get hit so much. He was just to beat up. You could see it earlier in his career when he still had some wheels on him. He used to run the ball fairly often. But when those hits started to pile up you could see his footwork slow down. Ben is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history for sure.

The media SLEPT on Big Ben's greatness. Most fans don't realize, he's Top 5 all time in literally every major stat. Look at this:
Regular + Postseason, Big Ben retires:
5th all time in Passing TD's
5th all time in Passing Yards
    5th all time in Completions
    5th all time in Wins
3rd all time in 4th quarter comebacks
2nd all time in Game Winning Drives
And the craziest stat of all? The Steelers had zero losing seasons Ben's entire 18 year career.
5 Conference Championship games, 3 Super Bowls, 2 rings, and the greatest Super Bowl winning TD pass ever.
If that's not a first ballot all time great resume, I have no idea what more you're looking for.

As a lifetime Steeler fan, I was so happy when we drafted him even though most casual fans had no idea who he was. I did though - he torched us for 7 TD’s in college (UCF) just months before the draft. He really was like a man amongst boys. So sad to see him gone but so grateful for what he gave us.

Only big omission I can think of us his 95 yd TD to Wallace at Arizona. Even though they included similar throws to Bryant at Cincinnati and Smith-Shuster at Detroit and Denver that were as long and longer, the Wallace one broke the at the time, 30 year old team record for longest pass play

Watch play #29 at 4:41. IN ONE PLAY, Big Ben a- fakes the defense with a great pump fake, b- scrambles to his right to escape a defender, c- stiff arms another defender to the ground that's probably 300 pounds, d- then throws ACROSS HIS BODY Mahomes-style when Mahomes was still in gradeschool, and e- notches a passing TD.
I feel bad for kids today judging Big Ben on his aging play. THIS play represents Big Ben in his prime. Unreal.

The last time I checked, Ben was sacked 554 times - the most by any QB since this became an official statistic. The Ravens alone sacked him 61 times, the most of any NFL team.
And then I watch a video like this, and he was so mobile, so elusive on so many plays. (Does this mean the Steelers REALLY need to revamp their offensive line?)
On a different note, I would have reversed #1 and #2, because #2 not only literally saved a Super Bowl championship, but also Jerome Bettis' mental health. But small potatoes.
Congratulations and my respect to Big Ben (from a Packers fan).

    • @gabepollock1641

A lot of Ben’s career sack total had to do with plays like this. He would try to move and create space as the play broke down, and that tends to produce as many positives as negatives.

His competitive spirit was always there and his precision at times was incredible. He made plays as a QB that no other QB playing in his era could make (shrugging off 300lb DLmen and then making an incredible throw out of nothing. Glad I got to see his whole career. Thanks Ben!
