The tripods begin to converge, ready for their offensive.
All we can do is watch and cower.

There’s something quite frightening about your version of the story, a mixture of the Orson Wells version and the original story. You’ve added anonymity with the Martians, the fact that we don’t even get to see them makes them more frightening. The machines are designed beautifully and feel intimidating. I hope you keep this up, this is by far is the most original and best take on the story.

Wow Rhysy, that is such a huge compliment, thank you so much. I'm enjoying this project probably more than any other I've done, as it lets me play with all of my creative interests in a story that I've always loved. The format also allows me to keep it manageable too.
If I'd set out to create a film, it'd probably seem too much. But mini episodic is perfect.
That said, I do plan to do some longer videos here and there.
Anyway, thank you again, that meant a lot.

This is what I thought a few days ago. Not all adaptations have to necessarily be 100% of the book, they can have their own twist of perspective with different styles of horror like alien abduction type movies, or they can even be all the same as the book, however, which the story is also expanded and told in different points of view. Great video, I loved how the Martians looked weird, I also want to illustrate my own version in a comic

    • @waroftheworlds1934
      @waroftheworlds1934  Год назад +2

I think the fact that the most well known adaptions, including Independence day, have all been hung upon the basic concept of the book, but everything else in between interpreted. It's almost expected of this story, and the period spin is what makes it watchable with each version.
There aren't many stories that have that range. There have been a few modern Shakespears & classic romance etc. But when it comes to sci-fi, there aren't many stories that have enjoyed such a long and varied life. It's very unique!
A comic version would be good for sure!
      Thanks for watching Onecat! :)

Yeah. I tell you what, back when I did the walk cycle originally, it took quite a while. It's quite a strange set up. The body up top has to shift gravity around to compensate for the lack of leg on the ground (combined with momentum).
It also looked a bit stupid at first. It was only when I added in subtly to the head bobbing on impact that it really started to feel right. Gave it the weight it needed. It's am interesting problem to solve.

Lot's of extra detail here that needs to be commended.
One, there's an Orson Wells feeling with this, in that the radio segments recapture the shorts in frightening detail and also use the Hitchcock Method of Horror - we don't get to see the Martians much at all for example, so it's left up to our imagination as to how they appear and thus, our own imagination frightens us more. This is a technique WAY underused in modern media who prefer to Show and Tell way too much. Audiences have gotten so... stupefied I guess... as to not have imaginations worth stirring I suppose. Yet you take the risk to tease us anyway, assuming that we are more imaginative and more intelligent than the Industry of Film as a whole thinks we are. Bravo to that. Imbedding terror within the audience's mind is the best way, IMO.
I sincerely hope the Martians continue this treatment and are only revealed later when appropriate. H.G. Wells used the Martian anatomy descriptions to simply show examples of how life could be different - but in our age, going back to the roots of old school horror with Alfred Hitchcock-esque tricks is highly praised.
Second, I absolutely adore the phonetic rhythm and pattern of the Martian's Horns! 1/4 note, 1/16+1/4 note, 1/4 note followed by a sustained note at the end; the harmony is A, A-A A, D flat
The fact that it's repeated and at different octave too, establishes that us, as the listeners and audience, can now identify the Martian's "signal".
What I'm most intrigued by here is since there a typical musical pattern to this Horn, I wonder if we will hear a new pattern later, as the Martians may use these Horn signals to communicate military maneuvers?
    It sounds so bad ass!
It's one of the things I loved about the Tom Cruise / Steven Spielberg WotW film is that blasting horn; however that horn was basically no different than a T-rex's Roar.
Your horn has purpose, it's communicating SOMETHING but we don't know what. There may be a new Horn sequence that signals the release of the Black Smoke!
Bravo sir, I love these so far!

    • @waroftheworlds1934
      @waroftheworlds1934  Год назад

Thank you Nurhaal, that was an absolutely lovely message to read! The horn serves double function as the Martian signalling, but it's also a kind of musical theme. You'll find it litters other videos as a foreboding of the impending attacks, the terror of the Martains that casts a shadow over the thoughts of those in the world under attack.
There is an intention to really expand on it, musically at a later date, coupled with a specific event... I have a whole suite sitting in my head that I am yet to get down. But I can already hear it clearly. Time is my enemy at the moment. So many things I want to do! But I'll get to it.
Regarding the theme aspect, it features in the Prime Ministers video at the end also.
I'm glad that you're enjoying the old school approach to the visuals :) Like you say, there is an obsession in the modern day to remove imagination entirely and show everything in full HD. But just because you can, doesn't mean you should, as the saying goes. I have fully designed the Martians though, and the temptation was so strong to display them. But I knew I couldn't. I have a whole little sequence sat on my hard drive showing them in their quivering awfulness... and I'd so love to share it,...but yet I can't. At least not until much closer to the end, and even then, I will be cautious on what I show and how. Though, I may give a few more glimpses here and there without giving too much away. Buried in the shadows.
Thank you again for the lovely message! The musical element is easily missed with all the visual aspect, so it is wonderful to hear someone who notices. I also hope you enjoy where I take that aspect in the future. Without doubt, the black smoke will have a theme of sorts. Those dark days lie ahead!! Oh the sorrows!

Yeah, I intend to fix that in the future. I've been finding the bullet settings a bit of a nightmare trying to get the look I was after. The turn around time (allowing for rendering too) meant I just had to let it ride this time. It's surprisingly trickey making dangly bits on a moving tripod. They do all kinds of crazy things, and the calculation time means wasted hours watching a timer.
Anyways, that aside, thanks for checking it out! And yes, talk is cheap... better to just do, even if it isn't perfect. I don't worry too much about critique. (just rotate them at the top to make em swing) animate between the morphs ;) OR use dynamics on just the danglies and save as an mdd, repeat the mdd file at differing speeds for a bit of randomness. The viewer less likely to notice that than clipping. To keep it simple for you, do what you did, but parent a simple geometry tube to the top of the leg where the clips occur (the leg inside, only at the top). Ungovernable terror gripped me. I stood petrified and staring.
A big greyish, rounded bulk, the size perhaps, of a bear, was rising slowly and painfully out of the cylinder. As it bulged up and caught the light, it glistened like wet leather. Two large dark-coloured eyes were regarding me steadfastly. It was rounded, and had, one might say, a face.
There was a mouth under the eyes, the brim of which quivered and panted, and dropped saliva. The body heaved and pulsated convulsively. A lank tentacular appendage gripped the edge of the cylinder, and another swayed in the air.
Those who have never seen a living Martian can scarcely imagine the strange horror of their appearance. The peculiar V-shaped mouth with it's pointed upper lip, the absence of brow ridges, the absence of a chin beneath the wedge-like lower lip, the incessant quivering of this mouth, the Gorgon groups of tentacles, the tumultuous breathing of the lungs in a strange atmosphere, the evident heaviness and painfulness of movement, due to the greater gravitational energy of the Earth - above all, the extraordinary intensity of the immense eyes - culminated in an effect akin to nausea.
There was something fungoid in the oily brown skin, something in the clumsy deliberation of their tedious movements unspeakably terrible. Even at this first encounter, this first glimpse, I was overcome with disgust and dread.
      H. G. Wells

It's possible, but more likely an element of the ATAT, partially as a nod, but really, I was just messing around at this point in the series and had like 100 subs at most. So I didn't take it too seriously. I never expected it to grow as it has. Hope you enjoyed!

You should make a movie about it?

Thanks. In a way, you are watching the making of that movie. I intend to bring it all together at the end and make a much longer piece. It's just a lot of work to get there :)

Aren't the sounds from the war of the worlds game?

@@aussierhino8535 No, in fact I've never played that so I'm not even sure which bit you are referring to. I suppose there is always going to be some similarity to these kinds of things, but I can 100% say the sounds aren't from there.
But now you have me intrigued about the game! Might have to look that up.

@@aussierhino8535 I searched for it but I couldn't find any reference to it (the game) other than a book (which I assume it is based upon). Interesting title though, quite an interesting concept and play on the name. :)
