    One detail you missed about the Spirit of man artwork is that its inspired by the works by Salvador Dali, specifically the elephants (1948) and the temptation of St. Anthony (1946)

      Well spotted. Also it's interesting to note that the falling building in the panic in the streets picture is taken from a photo from the blitz and the woman holding the girl in the bottom left of the picture, is a still from The Exorcist!

    While editing I thought this summed up the artists quite well: Trim - The Engineer, Taylor - The Victorian, Goodfellow - The Alien. All done very nicely and each very distinctive to their own styles I think. :)
    For a very creepy depiction of the War Of The Worlds, here's the Gorey Tripods of Horror explained:

    This has shown me that more than one artist done the drawings, this i had no idea of , now this has answered my thoughts of why the tripods look different in each page .i always thought the feet had circular pads at the bottom. Really enjoying these videos of the insight of this magical LP

    My favourite is Taylors Dead London Tripods painting which gives a truly epic sense of scale & entropy by showing the tiny crows feasting on the decomposing martians...

  • @inspector2363
    @inspector2363 2 месяца назад

    The Sprit of Man painting always looked like a still from an animated movie because of the crispness of the designs & film grain on top.

    Peter Goodfellow's artwork of the fighting machine is probably my favorite from the original album, they just look so clean and realistic. Overall though, my favorite design is the 3d model tripod from the 2006 live show CGI movie. Everything about that version is just perfect, and its the best version of the fighting machine in any iteration of Jeff Wayne's or any other adaptation.

    Very Nice Analysis! Man, I wish there was a WOTW Jeff Wayne Film TBH. Us WOTW Fans Should just Bunch up together and Team up for a Project like it already! I already got a Tripod model that is rigged, not saying we should use it (there's going to be better ones) and yea.
    I Already have plans for scenes in the Project, so if it ever happens, wish me (us) luck.

    I enjoyed this video, and it was fascinating to learn about Mike Trim and his great artwork! I had a connection to the album-I painted a piece of promo art here in Toronto, Canada in 1979, for the Canadian release by CBS Records of "Thunderchild" as a single. I just added a short video about it on my channel for anyone who's interested. Thanks!

    Another fire video 🔥. What o noticed in all of the designs is that they all share the bright and glowing green eyes which is the most thing that sticks out about them. Love it or not these are ideal to the history of the war of the worlds and their original album

    Ah there you go it was Goodfellows picture that made me think they were on stilts as I stated in your previous video. I don't know if you and others are aware of this but my mother had a different vinyl version which was known as the "highlights" of war of the worlds which only had Goodfellows pictures. Plus on the front cover thunderchild is nowhere to be seen it's completely black and the tripod is just shooting the ground. This was my introduction to Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds and it wasn't until the re-release sometime after that I even knew of these other artists and designs.

      I've been thinking about doing my own wotw VHS series, so maybe something will come of that. :) I was actually going to do a Doctor Who War of the worlds video last year for the 60th anniversary but didn't get around to it for some reason. That's why I took down a RUclips Short I did about a recent dr who/wotw audio story crossover, as I wanted to talk more about it in a proper video, as well as other instances of them crossing over. Fun fact: H.G. Wells was a companion to The Sixth Doctor on screen for a story. Or so I read. I haven't seen the episode he's in, which is why I haven't done that video yet. But when I watch it I'll do it. :)
