Don’t try, do. Look at the fundamentals that made halo fantastic. At the core is story and then set pieces, and then balance and then soundtrack. The gameplay comes from all of that combined
Halo was never just a graphics showcase. It was a passion project motivated by a desire to make something fun to play. Thats why even the original Halo: combat evolved still holds up today despite the outdated graphics. If this future unreal Halo isnt fun, the updated graphics and easier tools wont mean a thing
Ya this IP has alphabet people running the show and the chief of Halo Studios has no experience implementing a video game project. It is going to fail hard!!!
They don't seem to realize that the core problem is with who they are hiring. They think they can brute force it with nostalgic content & shiny graphics, but the root of the problem is who they are insisting on putting in charge. Maybe if they actually hired the most capable people they can find instead of trying to meet certain criteria, Halo wouldn't be circling the drain. The original games were made by a bunch of passionate nerdy guys in the late 90's through the 2000's & they reached their target audience of nerdy guys of all ages perfectly. Halo's graphics were always a big selling point. The reflections in Master Chief's visor and the textured bumpmapping were pretty ground breaking when it released. The fully rendered scene with the ark in Halo 3 that was used as the trailer was a huge selling point. The story was amazing as well, but you can't discount the graphical achievements the previous games made.
Back in the day halo was a graphic powerhouse and it hasn’t been since halo 3. So in part it actually is about the graphics - I do get you those they aren’t usually important and the rest you have listed is more important. But back in the day I remember halo wiping the floor with other games graphically. It would be nice to have that again
Next step would be building those core loops and interactions. The old engine had it so right from the get go. I suspect that code was basically the same.

All I hope now, is that "the new recipe" includes a full campaign with splitscreen, different bioms etc. A full multiplayer with PROPER ranks/rankingsystem, a good sandbox with long forgotten weapons which we all missed in Infinite. And please... Not a store, no changes for the sake of chaning things in certain MP modes. Let us earn things (coatings, armor etc) in this new recipe. Like back in the days. No way Microsoft allows the game to exist without some form of microtransactions. This is what you get with publicly-traded companies. They're always going to be subject to the pressure of major shareholders, most of which couldn't give less of AF about the product itself, or the fans.
Make Halo a sci-fi military shooter again, make it rated M, return the flood, and make a good story which seems to be the hardest thing for 343/Halo Studios.
cause they have a bunch of lgbt women that have never even played a halo game in their lives working on it. Theyre more worried about pushing their envelope and being 'diverse'
And make the campaign difficult again! My goodness! I'm sick of coasting through these campaigns on Legendary with low diff. Reach was the last difficult Halo campaign. ODST was fun, too
There is a reason why halo 1-3 were amazing. Not the graphics, but the story. This whole video seems too point out the graphics, but I just hope the story is classic 2000’s gaming
The funny part is only Halo 2 was really a graphical showcase of it's time. Halo 3 especially got heat back in 2007 for not being that impressive compared to it's contemporaries at the time graphically, but that didnt stop it from becoming the best selling Halo game even to this day.
Because the purpose of the video IS to point out they’re using a new physics engine and a new studio. The “fun” aspect will come later on when they are closer to announcing an actual game I’m sure. But for now these two changes are a big deal, because the old physics engine was a nightmare to learn and work with so this is going to allow this new team to work much more efficiently in the future
2:15 a guy said: "The original Halo franchise was a graphics showcase. It was best in class. That's what Halo was when it was first released and that's what Halo needs to be again." Immediate red flag to me. Halo wasn't about the graphics, it was primarily about the story, the characters, the universe, not just graphics. Graphics was secondary, imo.
I really wanna see they succeed, but the astonishing amount of mistakes and completely misunderstanding the fan base for how long? 10 years now? Not gonna buy me with a PR "trust us bro" move.
The shift to unreal isn’t about graphics. It’s about being able to hire talent and not have to train them on a new and unfamiliar game engine. Considering Microsoft’s hiring practices, this is how they fucked themselves over with Halo Infinite.
It's amazing how during six entire minutes none of these posers ever talk about how important it is for the game to be fun which was one of the core elements of the original Halo, it's all about the style but nothing about the substance.
To be fair, the first halo very much was a huge deal graphically, it blew me away in 2001. The thing is, that people don't play it solely for some generic unreal engine good graffix , but the reasons you said
Speaking for myself, the most important thing is the graphics, and everything else comes after. Without good graphics, nothing else matters. It has to have it all or nothing.
Let's all remember that the 2018 trailer was also a showcase of what the engine could do and we all know how that turned out. Just saying we should temper our expectations.
Well, Slipspace turned to be the reason Infinite had a development hell, it looked good, yes, but 343 just could not keep it because of the problems it brought, also, Bonnie Ross was there too. Now with UE5, new direction and new mentality we could actually see and live better times
@@SrMaximus I don't think it was so much the problems with the engine. Its had multiple remakes and multiple sequels. The game was massively popular and successful since it came out 25 years ago. in 2009 Microsoft forced them to make Halo Wars. A Halo RTS for console. They never made console games. RTS was never good on console. They were forced to collab with Bungee who had creative control of lore and game mechanics. SURPRISE! The game didnt sell well and Microsoft closed the studio months later... "The original Halo Franchise was a graphics showcase... that's what Halo was" It had a good gameplay loop, entertaining vehicle physics, a fantastic art style, and an iconic soundtrack. Halo was _not_ about having the best graphics. It was about that "30 seconds of fun loop" and making a game the developers wanted to play themselves. Now Halo is a franchise, and it sounds like it's going to be mined for value rather than fun just like CoD. Not that the last few years of Halo were all that exciting anyway...
Honestly that graphics comment is just their justification for hopping on the unreal 5 trend. He was the one that managed to steer Halo Infinite into being okay-ish after the studio got nuked from orbit. I will also add that since Unreal is a proven engine and widely used one, even with the 18 month contract limit, you don't have to have people find the black magic that made Slipspace engine work. A lot of people even indies have had some sort of experience in UE5 and on top of that it's very plug and play which can be good or bad but it will make them a lot more agile and change things up even late-ish into development if they wanted to. Mix this with a well balanced gameplay that feels like a mix of old and new halo games, i think it would do well. A lot of people here argue that old games sacraficed this or that for improved X or Y. We're in an age we dont need to sacrafice anything for anything. This looks beautiful, and has the potential to sound, play, and feel just as it looks. The fans need to understand their lack of faith affects the developers, too. Even showing a sliver of support/hope. May just bring what you want.
If the developers share a passion and want to make something really cool then I wish them the very best! I can only hope they get time and room to do their very best, though.
That's always the problem. Every developer wants to make the new Fortnite these days and have millions of players daily instead of having a steady playerbase that loves the game, keeps playing it and if it's good, it draws people in. That's exactly why the originals worked and their playerbases only grew with time, because they kept refining and improving something that was already good. Now they try to pander to everyone and the result, at best, is a very mediocre game with no identity because it tries to appeal to other audiences. I'm even confident that if they kept working on the H5 formula, they would have a different playerbase by now, but also a steady one, but no, they want "classic Halo" to reel in old players but also "modern audiences" that never liked Halo, and the result is something no one likes.

And the gameplay. Let's not forget the gameplay.
The funny part is only Halo 2 was really a graphical showcase of it's time. Halo 3 especially got heat back in 2007 for not being that impressive compared to it's contemporaries at the time graphically, but that didnt stop it from becoming the best selling Halo game even to this day.
Halo 3's story was meh and a huge step down from Halo 2. It was... fine.

They should remake halo 3 and ODST
@killershadow4980, i think they actually will. I mean, they are remaking Halo 1. I think if this blows up, they'll do exactly what Call of Duty did, but actually stick to Halo lore.
@@G0DKILLER_I don’t want ultra gore, halo isn’t edgy and it certainly isn’t a doom copy. I think halo just needs realistic gore and scenes that look real and are creative enough to be exceptionally scary, as CE intended to be but was limited by the tools at the time

@@3dkiwi920TO BE HONEST, you don’t have to be born to “witness” something. I was born in 2006, so well after the first two games, and not old enough to enjoy 3, ODST and Reach when they came out. I actually grew up with 343’s Halos, but the moment I played the original games, specially CE I immediately fell in love with it even more than everything 343 did combined, and when I saw Infinite’s launch I immediately noticed what was off compared to the og trilogy and bungie games.

30 Seconds of Fun. That’s why Halo was so fun. The strong story, solid graphics, and great designs are what made it exceptional.
343/Microsoft has done this song and dance numerous times. You may have everyone fooled again, but I ain't biting until I see actual change. You have pretty graphics and nice maps, but that's not enough. And I don't expect tons right out the gate, but balls in your court.
Same empty PR talk as before, same in-engine showcase as before and same studio as before.
I mean the head of the studio was literally head of production for the infinite campaign and multiplayer.. are we really putting our hope into that?
The entire leadership team was replaced and like 30% of the rest were fired, idk how that's the same studio to you.
@@jimwar211 I agree on this. The current studio head, Pierre, was the one that made MCC into the amazing game it is now and it shows in player count as well. I'm not say they should, but UE5 affords them that.
Imo the campaign and multiplayer were good, there just wasn't enough of it is all. Nowhere near enough.

@akramirez All the Halo 'bitching' was warranted due to Halo's mismanagement post Halo Reach. 90% population didn't leave Halo for no reason.
Out of all the people they showed in this clip, I would consider 10% of them to be gamers. Most of the look like they never held a controller in their life.

@@Mr.Genesis imagine thinking that a comparison to a turd is somehow impressive lol delulu
@@Mr.Genesis Halo Infinite released in an equally bad state. Every MP playlist was randomized, the Campaign's open world was empty, hit reg was horrible and the shop is still, to this day, the WORST feature added to any Halo game.
@@Mr.Genesis “I’m not coping.” *Proceeds to cope.* You’re not wrong but c’mon man, being “better” than BF2042 is like shooting your friend in the head and saying “at least I didn’t shoot myself!”
@@generalsweet8212 B2042 was complete garbage, got like a 50 Metacritic rating. Halo Infinite was actually a competent, good game, with an 87 Metacritic. Such gaps between review scores doesn't happen simply between games that are marginally better than one another. Infinite was a leagues better game at launch and unironically more complete than 2042
Imagine if they had this much passion talking about gameplay, story, and player engagement, instead of graphics and microtransactions. :DDD
I don't think players want better graphics? The graphics were the least of the problems with Infinite.
Literally was just core features missing at launch. Core features the made Halo fun.
Literally bro slipspace engine is fine but they keep hiring contractors
The point of the video is to announce the move to Unreal and the video only contains people like the art director and VFX lead.
Since the engine has no real baring on gameplay in terms of anything new being possible that wasn't previously possible, and the games are still early, the gameplay is not mentioned in this video and you're not going to hear about them directly for a long while.
True, true. This means absolute jack shit if they end up cutting the whole campaign again.

@@Imnot_abot I think most the people at the studio are different now with the mandated layoffs, turnover, expiring contractors, their constant high leadership bleed, and the recent-ish management restructuring. But ultimately they are still published/controlled by Microsoft, and Microsoft has been struggling with Xbox decisions a lot lately.
Highly skeptical, but obviously they want to make a good Halo game, as why wouldn't they? I just hope they go into it with the mindset they want to make the best. A bit sad we will never see 343 redeem themselves but I guess the change in name marks a shift in goals. Judging off their articles of them saying much faster content updates sounds more like live service than infinite. Unreal will be nice but I wonder if that means no more Forge. "Problems? What problems? We can keep burning Microsoft money no matter what"
Nobody ever thought Halo games graphics were lack luster. It has always been content and pro gamer ideas in MP. I feel like the past 3 Halos were about how can we piss off our fanbase even more
Nobody gives a shit about the graphics. In fact, how about you simplify the art style. We need visibility and gameplay first. I could care less about the graphics. Reach graphics were peak for me. This video proves that 344 Studios is still out of touch. I expect the next game to be shit. Back to not caring.
I can only hope they get time and room to do their very best, though.
i mean, you noticed how concord ended? dont you? remember who made Halo big, it wasnt the "modern audience"
