    This is a movie scene.
    They are actually army squadrons.
It may have been call "woods" but artillery had pretty much reduced the forest to exploded tree stumps and holes in the ground.
With very little cover, there was actually more cover from the bodies.

The channel is run by suggestions, and sabaton had about thirty times more suggested songs than anything else. Although I've gotten more history and worked my way through enough sabaton that they're starting to more even out.

@0:30 most famous? I could be very wrong but wouldn't that be the flag raising at iwo jima?
Edit: not trying to be that guy or take anything away from this but the only part of this story I ever heard of before I got older and into history was the quote. And even then was never taught where it was from. Military circles may be very different so excuse me if I am wrong.

Sure, but by that point the marines were a known thing. World war 1 was their first real burst on to the world scene so I was referencing more their very early history. But yes, Iwo Jima is one of their if not their most famous picture.

This is super well known for US military history dorks, and military men in general. It’s considered the marines coming out party, and referenced on marine bases all over the place. It’s captured essentially like mythical status.

@@rayceofhistory I got ya, that makes sense. Still not finished watching yet but oddly another guy did lost battalion today and thought I would mention it here as well.
The Marines in this story, the lost battalion and buffalo soldiers all famous battles were basically right next to each other and I find that fascinating.

Marine here. Iwo Jima is definitely more famous in the public eye but Belleau Wood is a legendary battle for the Corps, a lot of units had their traditions and lore cemented in that Battle. Iwo cemented the Corps into the public consciousness. Either way we're insanely proud of both, especially because many Marine units didn't get their start until WWII, like my own Marines 3/1.
