Hello Bob, my chum. I knew that little gulley would chuck something out eventually. However, a blank would of been fine on a lovely evening. All the best 👍
Unblieveable about the nasty comments but you responded firmly and with dignity and humour. Well done Darren. As a salmon angler for many decades I often have to console myself with a blank day or three by saying how I have enjoyed the lovely scenery, fresh air and the company of my mates. Fresh air, especially ozone filled air, exercise through walking and casting release nature’s endorphins and you get that ‘happy high’ that lasts even when you get home and as you plan the next trip. 25:30 Though I live in the North West now I was born in Sunderland and started fishing for flounder in the Wear estuary whilst still at primary school. I then graduated on to cod as I bought decent tackle from week-end jobs in my teens. Catching some decent codling from the old and new Roker piers. No bass in those days before the seas warmed. These excellent videos bring back so many memories. I’ve been lucky enough to fish in many parts of the world but now I am returning to my roots in sea fishing and watching Darren in so many venues greatly increases my eagerness to explore the fishing in North Wales, Merseyside and Lancashire. So once again many thanks and please keep making your friendly and informative videos. Mick (William)
Hi buddy. Thanks for watching. The mackerel seem to be around in numbers in Northumberland and I believe they are now getting caught in the mouth of the Tyne and Wear rivers . Good luck 👍
fished the same spot last friday we only had frozen bait , one of the best days we have had for a long time fish from the off, have allways like to fish cambois beach bit further up north end. as usual darren canny video down to earth craic 👍
Thanks, David. I do like North end of the beach. I used to fish inside the mouth, where the little stone pier is. Not ventured there for over 20 years now. All the best 👍
Just fished this tonight after watching your video I fished 2 up to high tide on the right hand side where you moved to and got 4 flats and a fish not sure what it was as it’s been a while since I’ve been sea fishing. But caught on frozen lug using a 2 hook flapper size 1 I think my rig was called
Shame that fishing on South Shields Pier is no longer available. Back in the eighties and nineties I had some good sessions there. Often with better results than at Roker. My favourite beach for an overnight winter session was always Blyth beach
Hi Michael. Yeah, the pier is a miss, but I am patient and will wait until it has reopened next year. I love the Blyth area. Had some nice bass from Blyth beach while cod fishing.
@ one session that always raises a smile. Just before dawn while unhooking a nice codling before returning it it coughed up 3 tiny live flounder about thumb size they also swam off. Rebaited and recast as my second rod had a rattle this was a good flounder lip hooked as I unhooked it. It spat out 3 three tiny but dead codling. Karma? My first few sessions on Blyth low tide up. 1st wearing wellies while moving gear back water above my knees. 2nd time thigh waders as the water was rising while moving rods back the sand dropped so again this time almost waist deep. Turned to a couple of amused locals. Next week I will have chest wanders, flippers mask n a blooming snorkel. The next Saturday yes I did turn up with the extra kit! But kept a closer eye on the time casting out loaded baits and moving back before the water started moving fast. Often I hear the air being pushed out of the sand as the water level under the beach rose. Just as with near Holy Island, or Morecambe Bay. If you hear the sand singing “RUN”
Hi Lee. We do get Plaice up here. The mouth of the Tyne used to be great for Plaice. The middens beach in North shields used to be a hot spot. They are also taken from the base of South Shields Pier too. I have not heard of too many caught personally. I have not had a Plaice for years. Had some nice ones from Tynemouth Pier in the past. Probably around 2lb, but I rarely weigh fish.
Got one off Blyth pier a few weeks ago, not massive. Had a huge one off Craster harbour wall years ago though, literally dropped my line over the side and it took my bait as soon it hit the bottom!
A good day again, hard going though. Thought you might have had a blank 😯. Thanks for sharing, Darren.
