  • The DX5s are the top of the line electronic hearing protection from CENS. There have various different modes for different situations and a 36dBA protection against typical firearm shot noises. They have performed well over the last few months that I have had mine.

A little late in posting this Oz, but for those of us that wear hearing aids, the ear itching with new tubes and domes is very common. Honestly, don't worry about gel or cleaning them obsessively etc. the itching is your body reacting to a foreign object. After a few days wear the itching goes away as the dome acclimates to your ear "flora". Once you've got over the hump you'll be fine with them. The neck loop is also referred to as an inductive loop, which is where you see signs for hearing aid loops in public places :)

Great to see somebody we trust reviewing this product. I have been curious about these, but wondering if it was worth taking the financial risk. If these were the same price as decent muffs, I think everyone would choose them. I think I'm getting closer to "pulling the trigger" and buying a pair [pun intended]

    Thanks for the review.
I wear hearing protection even for 22 subsonic. I've heard stories of "electronic muffs" NOT working for subsonics, I'd be keen to know how the earplugs compare at blocking relatively low noise.

When shooting 22 in rifle form i never bother with ear protection. Handgun is louder so i do with that but when shooting 22 i never bother wearing them unless surrounded by other shooters with louder firearms.

@@tgmaps It certainly is an individual choice, I'm not even going to suggest hearing protection for a 22 "should be" required - it's just that I do, same as I do when using a chainsaw, or riding on the tractor.

$1300? No way. That's a pair of the latest Com Tac's (which are military grade, proven in the field, recommend by active duty professionals) and a high end hand held Motorola radio. Or about 20 pairs of the old reliable Howard Leight Impacts. Maybe if there was Bluetooth at least but that much money and no comms capability. No thanks. You can have a great radio and headset combo with noise cancelling for a third of the price. But it's everyone's own decision how they spend their money.

Just wondering if you can tell which direction the sound is coming from , does it improve your hearing like some earmuffs claim

Did you ever find out if they have omnidirectional sound mics?
