Based on your description, it sounds like these are 99% similar to the soundgear phantoms. I went through an AUD and used my HSA. It was about $1400 to get mine and they are pretty sweet. I haven’t had them through a Texas summer yet though.

Yes. Very similar to Soundgear Phantoms. The difference in mine is that the hearing aid was upgraded so they can tune them to my hearing loss so they would be covered by my insurance. Pretty much only difference.

Thanks for your review and details of your process. I’m going thru this right now, starting with my first-ever hearing test. Am certain I must have some hearing loss at my age. May I ask specifically the make and mode number of your specific hearing protection? I was looking at the Soundgear Phantoms. Wasn’t aware there were any variations of that model.

So the molds, the charging case and controls look just like the Phantoms. However, the internal electronics are upgraded. It’s a Starkey Arc AI hearing aid instead of what comes in the off the shelf Phantom. It’s then tuned for my specific hearing loss. I think this is a requirement to be covered through insurance.

Do you know if these still protect your ears under 90db? Like if you have them in your ear off/muted do they still offer protection like having a foam ear plug in? Trying to figure out if these would be good for concerts/yard work etc. thanks!

Yes. So they’re custom molded to your ears so they work very well as passive ear plugs, just like other plugs. There is actually a mute mode which essentially turns off any amplification. I wore them once for a training session without power; forgot to charge them. They worked fine.

$500 is better than $1399 MSRP. House of sound has one heck of a mark up. Surprised they didn't wave the deductible.

I don’t think I was clear in my video. I didn’t get the Phantoms because I went through insurance. Essentially I got completely custom ear pro. The hearing aid electronics is different than what comes in the off the shelf Phantoms. They were also tuned to my hearing test. What I got is very similar to the top of the line Harris & Sons that sells for $3500.
