Hi Dean, do you find yourself using the different modes (clay/game etc) on your DX3's, or do you just use one mode and stick to it? I'm also wondering whether to go for the DX3's over the DX1's. Thanks
@@jking823 I have tried the various modes. But, on reflection, I think Lloyd's right and would probably get the DX1. They are amazing but after playing with the new toy you don't change the mode much.
What a brilliant word “jollop” is! Made me smile that did! I remember getting my impressions done for my CFG’s, and it’s such a weird feeling the first time you get them done! Cold, from what I remember! Another great video Lloyd! Always love watching.
Good to see your well Sir. Great review 👍 and product Wish I had got a pair of them now !! I purchased a different brand of Electronic ears and have been returned again in just over a year.
Thanks Lloyd, just come at the right time. Watched it 3 times. Now on my short list of 1. I struggle with conversations but my wife calls it selective hearing. I'll call Paul but need someone closer to Sheffield. 👍
@@lloydyp Thanks Lloyd, just been on the website £409, but didn't check out as there's no details of how you find an audiologist. Decided to have them with a neck cord.
Informative video as always, never tried digital ear protection, but I imagine that real advantage is being able to hear a conversation when stood around talking whilst other people in your group are still shooting? Interestingly when checking various ear protection products websites, the SNR (or NNR) is rarely in a prominent location, which seems odd as that is primary reason for the product, kudos for CENS clearly staring SNR of 25 for their digital earpieces. Although as is commonly known most simple ‘foam’ in earbuds rate in upper 30s if worn correctly. Sorry for essay, just my observations. Nice to see you are still active in spite of restrictions, eye protection for glass wearers next please!
I’ve been using this DX1 / Plugzz set this year. My first digital hearing protection and I think they’re fantastic. Definitely a good idea to keep spare batteries in you pocket, they can be a bit inconsistent with weather conditions. Top class service from Paul at Plugzz. Great review, I can’t see where I’d need any other functions either.
Thank you Lawrence. I actually tried one informally last year while in Italy and honestly I was underwhelmed. The 828u got away with a lot of issues because it's so unusual in design and weight not to mention the competitive price. The sport adds a steel reciever and and a hefty price tag that puts it in competition with the 694 / F16 / Ultra XS. What if doesn't do is address any of the problems with the design like the crappy trigger pull, and the nearly unusable top lever, which is a bitch to operate smoothly. I haven't chased one down to review on that basis.
I should add, the 828Sport handles just fine and shoots well, it's just that for the price point I don't think it's good enough to compete with other guns at the same price point.
Looking at these at the moment but due to cost was going passive with the option of purchasing the electronic units at a later date. Was wondering is it possible to purchase one electronic unit at a time to spread the cost .Another good video as usual Lloyd.
No, I’m afraid they come as a set. You can buy passive plugs and then the electronic modules later however. Might be worth asking if they do Klarna or something similar.
Thanks for the review I'd like to know how you think the sound quality is compared to your sporttac muffs as i am looking to get this type of hearing protection Phil
The Peltor muffs (and indeed the Swatcoms I am currently testing (look out for a future video)) are hard to beat for sound quality but the CENS units are great. As I said in the video, they are close to feeling like you aren't wearing ear defenders as I have experienced. I only wear muffs when shooting indoors or not using a shotgun.
Great video Lloyd! I'm actually trying to decide between the DX1's and DX3's - I want to use them for game shooting as well and not sure whether the DX3 game mode is worth the extra money or not? You mentioned that you reviewed the whole DX line and compared them - have you got a link to that review? Thanks
I don't think you will notice a significant difference but everyone's ears and expectations are different. I can hear beaters flags, wingbeats and all the important stuff in my DX1s, but I am by no means an audiophile. You might find the game mode to your advantage. It changes the way you hear, as much as what you hear due to the different signal processing.
@@lloydyp great, thanks. So would you say that with the DX1's you hear what you would usually hear without any hearing protection? So you don't get any "advantage" as such, but you hear what you would expect to hear?
@@andyjohnson222 thank you, the problem with expensive stuff like this is either you buy it yourself or you beg for a review set. The review set normally has strings attached so difficult to be objective. I’ve not reviewed vario either as I am not going to drop 500 quid to make a review.
Okay sorry but i have to say it, I have the DX3 and i am quite disappointed with them. Issues? well 1 sound quality is poor, the gun shot is louder than conversations around me, as an example my local reg shoot shares a motocross track about 1/4 mile away and i can hear the bikes clearer than a friend standing 2.2m away...... 2 the on off button is fiddly and can be turned on while removing from the ears after using them and you have turned them off and boom dead batteries at the next shoot. 3 poor sound sealing, takes a lot of piddling about to get a good seal and be comfortable. I often end up with a ringing ear on the first stand and have to mess with it to stop this. 4 different Modes make little difference, i have tactical in the left ear and clay mode in the right ear because i can't figure out how to change the tactical to clay.... I continue to use them because they are saving my nice stock from can rash and they cost near on £600 with extras (kin hell!!)
