    This is a rare cult UK BASE Jumping documentary. They don't make them like this anymore.
    Shot in the UK and mainland Europe in the summer of 2000, Seconds to Impact follows an international group of BASE jumpers as they hurl themselves off buildings, bridges, cliffs and other lofty perches.
    A split-second mistake could prove fatal - which becomes horrifically apparent in this fascinating observational documentary. We follow Rob, Jon, Dave, Terry and Allan in their search for thrills and occasional spiritual high.
    From London's Park Lane Hilton hotel to a kilometre-high granite crag in Norway, this is a unique record of why people risk their lives to participate in extreme, and sometimes illegal, sports.

    I worked on this film. I was the camera operator and editor. Some great comments, much appreciated. It was a privilege to hang out with these guys, John and Rob and Greg, Sean and Allan and Terry, they were fantastic guys. If anyone knows where John is, I'd love to know...Rest In Peace Terry....as Lol the director said 'These are the 'ordinary' guys who become commandos / special forces if there is a war, or paratroopers perhaps! it was fascinating watching the different nationalities at the Exit point - the Brits always making jokes, the Yanks had all the gear, the Aussies like it was a walk in the park...thanks for uploading. Great but poignant memories...sorry for the Standard Definition - HD was only a couple of years off from when we made it...

    What great memories this brings back. I watched this documentary a few times before making contact with Rob. He went to the trouble of driving up from Essex to the Midlands with a rig for me to do my first BASE jump. This was over 20 years ago. It was all really bloody surreal, as the jump happened just as it does at the start of this film. I can remember it like it was five minutes ago.

      snowy matrix What is so great about this doc is that it pre dates the explosion of BASE on Social media. The jumpers were not showing off to get likes and the segment with English stuntman Terry was very emotional charged. This is special upload as you won't find videos about BASe like this anymore.

    That's unbelievable! Got to say, despite my age, I always try and push myself and set myself achievable goals and had so many scary but exhilarating experiences but this really kicks it up 10 notches! It's when you watch stuff like this, you miss being young and the realisation your body is slowly letting you down. Massive respect to those guys, who are living life to the max, great watch! Cheers Alan

      Thanks Alan, very wise words there. I don't know if you are familiar with the film 'Point Break' there's a quote about the human spirit that made a big impression on me back in the day I first saw it in the cinema ruclips.net/video/xAeHFKaL5zA/видео.html In my own way with my modest adventures I have tried to follow its teachings!

    There was a time about 12 years ago when having watches a LOT of proximity wingsuit flying vids, and on holiday with a friend, at the base of a massive cliff in Zante, she asked if I would be interested in doing the AFF course to learn skydiving. I absolutely HATE heights, but you can't fly wingsuits without learning skydive, so I agreed, as BASE really interested me! I did a tandem jump just to see if I liked it, and to be honest, I didn't.....I screamed for 2 lungfulls of air, before I realised that I could actually tolerate what was happening to me......I decided to do the course, and about 18 months later, myself and my friend flew out to Spain and did the AFF course. During the following few years, I jumped at a club in the UK, and learned a hell of a lot. One vital thing that I learned is how VERY different BASE is from skydiving. The equipment is different, the skill level needed to do it and not die immediately is MUCH higher, and the risk level makes skydive look like playing chess in comparison. In short, BASE just wasn't for me. Anyone who wants to get into BASE, learn to skydive first, and then after you've done a couple of hundred jumps, THEN you could consider thinking about it, Ideally wait until you've 500+ jumps experience and NO remaining friends or family. The death statistics aren't pleasant reading. Even when done by very experienced people using equipment that has been packed to perfection, it's still vastly more dangerous than skydive. Adding wingsuit flying into the mix massively increases the skill level required and also the potential for something to go wrong. Good luck and respect to anyone who does it.

    • @24934637
      @24934637 9 месяцев назад

      As far as skydive goes, I've quit now. Skydive takes a fair bit of commitment and you need to be jumping an absolute minimum of once per month to keep your licence current. To progress with skills it takes a LOT more than one jump per month, and because of work and the fact that I had a bit of a drink problem at the time, combined with my fear of heights which I still had, I was only just managing to travel up to the Drop Zone and do the once per month jump, my skills weren't improving so effectively I was just doing the same thing over and over again each month. In retrospect I really should have given myself a kick up the arse and got my drinking under control at the time so that I did have the money available for jumping, but it just wasn't the right time for me (I have since got myself sober). Amazingly although it does seem amazing, but repeating the same jump with a few small variations can get boring, so eventually I just quit. 53 jumps, and the last one done in memory of a friend who had passed from an overdose intentionally. I met some amazing people who I have the privilege of calling friends, but for me skydive is a thing of the past and BASE is never going to happen. Probably just as well.

    For the kids watching who don’t know any better, do NOT base with a skydiving rig. There are a lot of reasons, but for a nice visual, the opening at 24:17 is with a base rig, the opening at 25:03 with a skydiving rig. Much longer to open and a good deal more prone to high and low speed mals

      To be honest: i just had to verify if on this video somebody is seriously basejumping with a skydiving rig. Now all i can say is: priceless.

    I do like the style of this documentary! In particular when it comes to passionate people risking their lives and dying as a consequence. A great French alpinist - Jean Marc Boivin- once said: on vie comme un moutun ou un lion! You lived like a lion, Terry...

      You would make a good BASE jumper. The ones that stay alive are the ones always terrified when they look over the edge. A lot jumpers are scared of heights. Many say they would quit the day they are not scared when they look over the edge. The fear keeps them safe.

    Brilliant documentary, showed how base truly is, 4 days ago i went to exit 8:39 and jumped with lads, i can tell you it was scary, legs were little shakin and spent 2min on the exit but nailed it, best rush i tell you😄31:46 im the same, i dont like heights but i dont mind jumping of objects, its when im on the edge and im looking down im scared, but once i look straight or slightly up, push off and jump- im fine and happy🪂
