7 years later and I still come back a couple of times per month to watch this beautiful short film. It still motivates me to live life to the fullest and appreciate the moments we have. Maybe this happens automatically, but it's just awful to see a cereal ad pop up in the middle of his last jump. Thank you Matt and Ian for keeping my head up all these years.
I didn't know you Ian Flanders, but we were literally born a handful of months apart, our hometowns are 1.5 hours apart, and our lives are crazy similar. From one Hoosier to another Hoosier, and from one skydiver to another skydiver. Fly free brother. Thanks for the homage gopro.
+FluxiumOfficial I think there are 3 kind of users that could dislike this video: bots, soulless people, and people who don't know english and/or is only subscribed to this channel for the epic videos.
I know this a couple years old but WOW! A sharp pain of sadness pierced my heart and I truly am sorry for your lost. It is a super bond and friendship to have not only as friends but to have that sidekick/partner in crime so to speak as I did growing up surfing with my pal until a tragic accident happens and this hole in my heart remains. Although my buddies fatal accident was not during our surf sessions it still was a terrible accident with the unfortunate loss of his life. I feel for you all. Take care.
I have rewatched this many times and my love for BASE jumping stays the exact same way, Matt do what you love Ian would have wanted you to keep doing that what you love the most. Much love
this is not what i was expecting to watch while looking for proximity flying. im sitting here in tears. This is an amazing story thank you and thank you matt for allowing this.
literally one of the best films i have seen in a while! their friendship is inspiring and i love everything they stand for. "you either live a genuine life thats true to who you are, or you don't. And, our genuine life was one that was full of risk, so thats the one we lived"
I admire people who live life they way they want no matter what. I am glad these two friends expressed their feelings for each other openly. Most people never say how they feel about someone until it's too late. Tell the people you care about that you love them.
My best friend recently passed at age 20 about 1 month ago. He also said "I love you bro" anytime I made him laugh or say something so weird he just didn't know what else to say. That struck a chord with me when he mentioned their last opportunity you can have could be at any moment. I have a little feeling my friend knew that too. Rest in Paradise Jeff
Fabulous tribute... fabulous dreams you guys must have had.... if I had my time over again... I would do... what you both do.! Respect and admiration for you all.
What's wonderful about this other than everything else is I doubt there is a negative comment on this feed. I come back to this every few years. Almost cry all over again.
It's a reference to Don Quixote. The phrase "chasing windmills" is used similar to "chasing rainbows". Basically, Matt was saying that people look at base jumpers as crazy and delusional for taking on the risk that they do, just like Don Quixote, who thought he was a knight, was delusional for attacking windmills, which he thought were giants. But even if they're crazy, Matt and Ian still showed the bravery and comradery you'd expect from a knight. Honestly, I'm not sure if the quote really fits. However, it has meaning on its own, even if separated from the story of Matt and Ian, and I thought it rather profound.
+311i0t Like in Don Quijote - Miguel de Cervantes (that you should read it) Don quijote believed he was fighting giants when he was actually fighting some windmills. Everyone looking at the scene (and even Don quijote knew it in some sort of way) would though he was crazy, but at the end you are what you stay true to. If you believe you are a knight and even tho you know you are going to die if you ram against a windmill you do it because a knight would fight giants to defend everyone, doing what is true to yourself will make you what you really are, it doesn't matter what the rest of the world sees.
i have honestly never encountered a company that has been more inspiring with such a massive impact on so many people in such a simple way, it just makes me want to get a go pro and document myself and my friends livin life. rock on
amazing ! very touching . I lost my childhood friend years ago and I know how tough it is to go through such an experience . One finds grievance in reminding oneself if all the good times and memories spent with the friends that passed .
wow... thats all you can say... what a great guy. definitely going to be missed. thank you GoPro for posting this, it woudn't get the publicity it deserves if it wasn't up to you guys. RIP Ian
This story was truly inspirational and beautiful. You never know what will happen and it's scary but that's just how life is, many of us take everyone and everything we have for granted. Ian died doing what he loved, rest in peace.
True or they don't have empathy and don't see they did the things they loved so much with knowing the risks and dangers. So I could never give this a thumb down
Kudos Anson. A beautiful tribute to Ian. Kudos GoPro for sharing it here. Kudos to almost everyone who keeps their inappropriate comments to themselves and realizes this is deeply personal to Anson, and the rest of Ian's friends. Best RUclips film I've seen in a very long time.
This was well done. It showed the beauty of friendship and the impact life has on others. This film is a great reminder to thank God for the good times you had and cherish every moment it brings. well done Gopro well done. @Gopro

New to the channel, this is not at all what I was expecting. I thought it would be all WOAH, AWESOME ADVENTURE COOL LOOK AT THAT, sort of videos. This was amazing and heart-wrenching at the same time.
This is one of the best short films I have ever seen, so beautiful and sad at the same time. RIP Ian
+Adam Stevens I couldn't have agreed more.
+Adam Stevens I pretty much never cry to this sort of thing ... couldn't help it this time :(
GoPro knew the risk of posting this video. They did it for Matt and Ian, not to sell cameras. Salute
The camera didn't cause the death lol
"You either live a genuine life that's true to who you are, or you don't" damn powerful
Yeah. Making me reconsider a lot.
Makes you wonder what you really wanna get out of life.
Woah read this as it was said in the video.
