+JT84_456 Like +Jozzarozzer said, it's beautiful everywhere, at any time. The people are fantastic and everything works. That culture of being tidy and respectful really makes all the difference. My fiancée is Japanese and in total I've spent around 9 months in Japan...I can tell you it's even more amazing when you get there. Absolute, 100%, iron-clad guarantee. You'll never wanted to leave. Go man; there isn't a chance in hell you'll regret it.
This really showcases how editing and storytelling is crucial to any GoPro video, hell, any video. It's not only about the shots, the quality of the image and the incredbileness of the location (although all are incredible in this video), it's about how they're put together. Much like the naration said, it's all those imperfect moments that makes for the perfect adventure.
I am high school boy in Tokyo🇯🇵. The skiing ⛷in Japan is GREAT!! You can also experience our unique culture( especially, hot spring and food )!!! I hope you visit Japan someday(≧∀≦)
Minh Chau if you just want to ski on a proper ski hill I'd recommend niseko or Sapporo kokusai but they're not that special. If you want back country skiing I'd recommend niseko again. The whole area is high elevation so you'll find plenty of spots to ski. I only know places up in Hokkaido so I can't recommend any down south
Holy snow. What a masterpiece. The story, the cinematography, the script, the grading, the voice over, the scoring, the places. One of the best travel films I've watched and it's filmed entirely on a small camera with small sensor. So much could be done with a GoPro. Amazing. Just beautiful.
"Every piece of the journey is part of the perfection we seek. Individual moments may seem imperfect, but together they make up the adventure." - Bravo!
Goosebumps... I'd like to thank every single person behind this masterpiece. Atheletes, editors, musicians and all the others... Thank you so much, this video was magnificent
Lakehouse At Toyako was honoured to have the Go Pro team stay with us and film on the lake, at the local temple, and of course the surrounding mountains. John Jackson and Chris Benchetler ,you guys are legends. Thanks for staying, come visit again.....this winter is just kicking off! #snowboarding #JohnJackson #ChrisBenchetler #GoPro #Hokkaido #Rusutsu #LakeToya #HokkaidoBackcountryClub
Lakehouse At Toyako you guys live in a beautiful country I miss it. I've seen the Sakura fall like snow in spring, and next time I would like to see actual snow.
Holy DAMN! Mad props to Abe Kislevitz and the Farro brothers on this one! I think this perfectly captures why myself and many others like me hike themselves into exhaustion every winter to find that perfect pow run. Can't wait to be looking down on a sea of heavenly pow once again! Thanks for getting me stoked team GoPro! #WINTERISCOMING
Probably my favorite GoPro film I've ever seen. Seeing people ski and snowboard without any lifts in sight is a beautiful thing. And above all, the aerial cinematography is ON POINT. If GoPro really is coming out with its own drone, DJI better watch out.
+Herm S The way he tells the story. How you basically travel with them from place to place aboard the trains, buses, cars. You basically walk/ski the journey with them. Rather than just seeing how good they can ski. The amount of editing just in this sequence would be INSANE. 3:42 - 5:04
Vaporizer Wizard Very true indeed. I loved the combination between time/hyperlapses and drone shots. And I think the music choice were excellent too. It's cool to hear it from a more professional perspective, so thanks mate!
50 cent army. Any video regardless of content that has Japan in the title that has 100,000+ views and shows Japan in a positive light is guaranteed some PRC sanctioned Chinese thumbs down. Especially true of videos that tout travelling to Japan. Not any ordinary trolls. Paid trolls.
Outstanding work by the GoPro crew! Not only did they do an incredibly professional and artistic job capturing the beauty of Japan but they were a huge pleasure to work with. Having amazing locations such as the Lakehouse at Toyako and Shiribetsu-dake where we do our heli and touring options helps too! This is our 5th time working with Chris Benchetler and our first with the GoPro crew and John Jackson We hope to see them again this season and many more to come! There's so much more to explore in Hokkaido anytime of the year.
This video made me go two Japan twice to snowboard. Hakuba's happo one northface in waist deep powder. Niseko's backcountry again in waist deep powder. Best place hands down.
Watched this before but just got a 65" Visio 4K tv and watched it again and the difference is unreal. Watching this in the way it was meant to be watched. The quality gopros production team can pull off if astounding
Greatest Inspirational Video for Skiing/Snowboarding Ever! Saw this first time when it was released, now 8 years later, after learning snowboarding, love it even more!
Wow!! Words can't describe how i feel after watching this, perhaps one of the greatest edits I've seen! Great job Abe, and everyone else who made this masterpiece!
footage from 3:38 to 5:05 is the best video i ever seen as it fully presented Tokyo in a smooth & nicely done Time Lapse video shooting... truly masterpiece
Japan Snow: Such a Beautiful Snowy Winter Wonderland filled with whiteness that surrounds the rugged countryside. Showing the emptiness of the countryside to the multitudes that roam throughout the sleek ultra modern city-scape. Great show GoPro, enjoyable to watch, thank you.
This is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The pacing, the contrast between the scenes of pure serenity and urban chaos make this a seriously amazing watch. Thanks for all the work on this, pushing the quality of gopro content further and further.
Es la pieza audiovisual MÁS MARAVILLOSA que he visto en mucho, mucho, mucho, tiempo. Mis RESPETOS y mi MÁS ABSOLUTA admiración hacia sus autores, sean quien sean.
Has to be up there with the best GoPro videos I've ever seen. Along with the 4K in Japan video you did too...there's a theme going there... 11:27 That last scene literally brought tears to my eye. When the world we live, our home - as humans - is so beautiful...why are we fighting over land; over money; over religion. Just f**king look at it. Our home (Earth) is so unbelievably f**king beautiful - let's stop hating, and start enjoying the short time we have here. I see the events in Paris/Syria/Sudan and I despair. I ask myself _"Is this what represents humanity? Death, destruction, greed, megalomania?"_... ...Then I see this, and I feel happy again. I feel blessed to live on this planet, with all this beauty surrounding us. We are in the 'Goldilocks' spot of our Solar System - and possibly the entire universe - where we can experience all this. Let's look after ourselves, look after our planet and most important of all - start looking after each other. We don't live in countries, we live on Earth... 11:27 ...Just pause it there. Stop and look at it; at how *f**king* beautiful it is.
perfect. I'm in Matsumoto and it's really different than what people think, Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo are quite the same, but Nagano pref is different. Near Hakuba too, can't wait for 2015-16 season, we had the first snow today...wow
This is just... wow... I'm lost for words. I would argue it's an even better movie than the art of flight. Just the opening shot on the lake and the graphics and the shots in Tokyo... You, Sir have done something great!
I've went to Japan earlier this year, and when I say it's the greatest country I've ever visited, it's the greatest country I've ever visited. I will be going back.
These people are snow animals, they are skiing down trees. What beauty. Academy award quality editing, photography music, what a great effort, something to be proud of forever. Brilliant. Discovery channel take note. (I think I'll click "like.") evidently some people live on a higher plane, and I suppose we never knew until GoPro.
+Schaaf they use a plug called twixtor, it takes two frames and then tracks all the pixels movements from one frame to the next in order to create more frames in the middle, its a plugin for adobe after effects, hope that helps!
I'm pritty sure they didn't use twixtor (I use it all the time for going so slow tell it omost looks like a picture) because I watched the behind the sean and they where only shooting 2.7 with the drone over the snowy lake so they probley shot it all in 2.7 and upskaled
Love Japan. Japan is such a beautiful country. I can only hope that it pulls itself out of dept, the scars are healed from the 2011 disaster and lastly the population starts to grow.
Yeah, seriously +Abe Kislevitz, this is my favorite ski film of all time. When I saw it I was inspired to travel to Hokkaido to learn snowboarding. I am now here in Hokkaido and today I made my first-ever deep powder tracks in the sidecountry at Sapporo-Teine. I literally owe that great joy to your film. Thank you so much!
Thank you GoPro for making youtube complete. This is literally the video I've been waiting on for years! I love Japan but whenever I used search for "Japan Snow" videos there was always a lack of mint videos like this one. No more is that an issue!
This is your best video, easily. The videography is spectacular, and the story of finding the adventure was amazing. Please make more videos like this one!
+Ayami Sato haha my family speak Cantonese and I gotta agree with you Japanese sounds much nicer on the ear. Loud Cantonese is not something I like to listen to for a long period of time :)
Such a masterpiece. The plot was great, the continue search for perfection, it's not to find the perfection, it is the search himself. Gotta love these aerial images, from drones. But may people think Japan is only Tokyo, but in Tokyo even have snow in the winter, so these filmed places were in other cities.
This video made me feel happy and also made me wanna take a trip to Japan like, right now! I'm not sure how can someone dislike such a nice piece of work. I mean yeah we don't see quadruple back flips and 500 feet gaps but those are not even relevant at this point. A big kudos from Canada to you guys!
Such a beautiful country, you truly get the best of both worlds. Down south in Okinawa and Zamami island you get beautiful weather, gorgeous oceans and the best beach in the whole world (don't forget the number one location to whale watch). Up north you get this. Well I don't need to explain, this video does well.
North America and Europe definitely have sicker slopes and mountains but Japan has the best powder for sure. So weightless!!! Cant wait for the 2016 season!!!
+Giacomo Gamberini Great question. For a real mind explosion, look carefully (almost frame by frame) at 3:51, especially the outer edges of the frame. If it was faked in post it's the most unreal amount of effort or outstanding software to get every minute detail right, so I can only assume it was done practically. Except I have no idea how!
Beautiful short film, I would love to go to this places that you guys went,I’m from Brazil and I’m in love with snowboarding, congratulations for this life experience and thanks for showing to us
+Yazuac Naako they probably shoot 2,7k 60fps or 1080p 120 and up-res it to 4k for export. It's a tiny minority of the other shots which are shot in 4K so it's not an issue to up-res it.
+Yazuac Naako Obviously, but you can see in the slow mo clips that it's not as sharp as the 4k clips. They've probably re-sharpened it a bit as well, there's also a clip or to shot at 1080p 120fps. But all along the video, you can definitely tell this was recorded on GoPro, the grain, color and overall look of the image really is GoPro and nothing else. The way the edit is done as well helps feel like it's extreme slow mo sometimes with fast cuts and slower moments. Just my 2 cents :)
Japan is such a beautiful country... man, I'd love to go there
I've been there in summer and it's pretty sick, just beauty everywhere.
+JT84_456 Like +Jozzarozzer said, it's beautiful everywhere, at any time. The people are fantastic and everything works. That culture of being tidy and respectful really makes all the difference.

+JT84_456 Youve gotta go at some point!
+JT84_456 I live there :)
Lourenco Maia I'm moving there in 12-18 months. Just need to finish my JLPT N2 first :)
Best GoPro video ever! Who agrees? Chapter one must have taken more than 6 hours to edit! Great job guys, keep it up
best video evaaaaar
i wonder how 40 persones "unliked" this video ............ the dark side of the force?? lol
6 hours? More like 6 days
+kingsmeadow I didn't ask how many hours or days you thought it took to edit. I asked if you agreed that it was the best GoPro video ever...
+Noah Edwards shots fired :x
Masterpiece. Nothing more to say.!
yes, its a work of art, incredible
Absolutely!
Then watch "Streets of Japan in 4k"
I was subbed to u and go pro for a while now
nice :D
This really showcases how editing and storytelling is crucial to any GoPro video, hell, any video. It's not only about the shots, the quality of the image and the incredbileness of the location (although all are incredible in this video), it's about how they're put together.

I did this summer and loved it, is it cold this time of year?
Shibatan Tokyo I used to live in Hokkaido and now I'm living in Canada. I'd like to visit Japan again someday!
what are some of the good places to skii in Japan?
Minh Chau if you just want to ski on a proper ski hill I'd recommend niseko or Sapporo kokusai but they're not that special. If you want back country skiing I'd recommend niseko again. The whole area is high elevation so you'll find plenty of spots to ski. I only know places up in Hokkaido so I can't recommend any down south
+Rickey Andres thank you very much for the info
This has become a timeless classic now!

Aah, the best Odesza song to some skiing footage. Perfection.
This was beautiful. Wow one of my favorite GoPro videos.
+Andres Hernandez I was about to comment the exact same thing...
yes
+Andres Hernandez you are absolutely right! Amazing video!
+Andres Hernandez both of my favourite things, Japan and Snowboarding :)
+Andres Hernandez
I'd love to cut videos like that if I've got that powerful material

Oh wow! Such amazing work! So many little things in this video that will go unnoticed by most, but will be appreciated by editors and filmmakers :)

+Chris Rogers EXACTLY!!! aaah... gorgeous!!

how, seriously how can you dislike something like this!?
Semper Fidelis i don't f*cking now but there are 22k likes and 190 disklikes so that's nice
i think somebody must really hate their lives to dislike something like this
Someone who is just board and browses through stuff that he/she doesn't really think about in the moment.

Incredibly mesmerizing on the beauty of this whole video
"Search For Perfection" and "Let Me Take You To The Mountain" are, hands down, the best snowboarding videos on RUclips! Good job Go-Pro!
This is definitely some of gopros best work editing wise
GoPro is the type of brand that truly never stops creating mind blowing content. Awesome job GoPro Crew.

The drone pilot for this video has some serious skill
I've watched this video like 5 times in the last 2 days. A winter trip to japan is now at the top of my bucket list
and I'm just sitting here, wondering how they manage to do smooth slowmos in 4K...
+Schaaf i think they shot in 2.7 60fps for thos
+Quinlan Brown of course but how did they upscale it to 4K so damn smoothly?
?

Director ? Abe Kislevitz . So it's normal that it's a great vid x)
:)
+Abe Kislevitz dude, congratulations. this is one of the most beautiful videos i've seen this year.
I'm so glad 4k came along. The hardware industry always needs something to motivate it.
Abe Kislevitz, you are a true genius.
Just watched this on my tv and that footage is superb even in 1080p far less 4K,absolutely stunning and lovely country
This is the Perfect Introduction of Japan!!!:)

I just got back from Japan and it was the best snow I’ve ever had. It was AMAZING!!
Japan is so beautiful. *-*
What I just saw... Needs to be played in all movie theatres and schools. Just pure epic beauty !
Oh..) Japan is a beautiful and peaceful country)
And these guys are well demonstrated this in this video!
Greetings from Russia )
lllKRENDELLLlll it's so boring there. that's why it's so peaceful. there's simply nothing to do except eating good shit and snowboarding or skiing
for real? lol
Rickey Andres Well you obviusly dont know anything about japan
Rickey Andres I lived in Okinawa for 7+ years. I still love and miss it
Rickey Andres you are so ignorant. Feel sad for you.
You know it’s a good video when every single shot is the best shot ever.
My eyes started to water just watching this.
Thank you GoPro for making youtube complete. This is literally the video I've been waiting on for years! I love Japan but whenever I used search for "Japan Snow" videos there was always a lack of mint videos like this one. No more is that an issue!
すごい!👍
日本はいい所でしょ?
I like snowboard❤
This is your best video, easily. The videography is spectacular, and the story of finding the adventure was amazing. Please make more videos like this one!
still watching in 2019
One of the best Japan videos ever, and that's really saying something.
Can't wait for snowboarding 😭
I always appreciate quality content. Thank you GoPro

素晴らしい映像でした!
自分も旅がしたくなってきた
Thank you GoPro!!! These short movies are the best!!! Keep them coming!!!!
WHATS GOOD ABE KISLEVITZ!!!!
Most Beautiful Snow short movie I have ever seen
I think Japanese is the best sounding Asian language.
well Korean and Mandarin are there too
+MrTrouserPants It's an opinion dude. It's obvious that Korean and Mandarin are there. Where else should they be?
+MrTrouserPants No, Corndog4382 pretty much nailed it! Japanese is a smooth as the powder in our beautiful country! ;)
+Ayami Sato haha my family speak Cantonese and I gotta agree with you Japanese sounds much nicer on the ear. Loud Cantonese is not something I like to listen to for a long period of time :)
+Corndog4382 weebs...
The shot at 11:25 is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
I still comeback to this video and gaze upon this masterpiece
Me too ... As we ski, we are searching for perfection, only to finish and look back on the run as the perfection we seek....
Such a masterpiece. The plot was great, the continue search for perfection, it's not to find the perfection, it is the search himself. Gotta love these aerial images, from drones. But may people think Japan is only Tokyo, but in Tokyo even have snow in the winter, so these filmed places were in other cities.
Makes me wish i never moved south and became a corporate sellout. Hey kids, dont be like me, move to the mountains and snowboard everyday.
you can still go back to the mountains
Farid Rottigni LoL yea
This video made me feel happy and also made me wanna take a trip to Japan like, right now! I'm not sure how can someone dislike such a nice piece of work. I mean yeah we don't see quadruple back flips and 500 feet gaps but those are not even relevant at this point.
A big kudos from Canada to you guys!
10:33 is my new desktop background
This is the best GoPro movie I have ever seen
ну и где тентакли и большие глаза? но на самом деле видео очень шикарное, особенно в 4к
Stunning!! Great editing to gorgeous cinematography in both urban and nature scenarios!
That video looks like it was shot with a million dollar camera
Such a beautiful country, you truly get the best of both worlds. Down south in Okinawa and Zamami island you get beautiful weather, gorgeous oceans and the best beach in the whole world (don't forget the number one location to whale watch). Up north you get this. Well I don't need to explain, this video does well.
Here I am watching this again a year later
Me2 one is just uploading behind the scene videos.. checkout abe kslevitz
I really like gopro's videos, but this is my favourite.
Perfection. Nothing to say.
7:55 Freshest powder seen to man
The best GoPro video I've seen. Such great shots, fantastic editing and INCREDIBLE quality. Wish I had one of these!
How do they keep the snow off of the lens ?
No
Exactly
Sure
kinda
Mostly
North America and Europe definitely have sicker slopes and mountains but Japan has the best powder for sure. So weightless!!! Cant wait for the 2016 season!!!
Who else got this in their recommended and thought this was Jon Olsson and Marcus? 😂
Abe frickin Kislevitz. Absolutely crushing it. Loved the video, some really beautiful shots and overall amazing video!
YEAH ODESZA the best there is
the most beautiful video gopro has ever made
5:24 dolly zoom with a gopro ??!!! how ?
+Giacomo Gamberini Great question. For a real mind explosion, look carefully (almost frame by frame) at 3:51, especially the outer edges of the frame. If it was faked in post it's the most unreal amount of effort or outstanding software to get every minute detail right, so I can only assume it was done practically. Except I have no idea how!
Beautiful short film, I would love to go to this places that you guys went,I’m from Brazil and I’m in love with snowboarding, congratulations for this life experience and thanks for showing to us
Just a thought, we are able to record 4k30, 1080p120 and so on. But how is GoPro able to record 4k in slowmotion?
I always think some gopro videos werent shot with gopros
I'm wondering too ??
+Yazuac Naako they probably shoot 2,7k 60fps or 1080p 120 and up-res it to 4k for export. It's a tiny minority of the other shots which are shot in 4K so it's not an issue to up-res it.
+Jeremy Janin 2.7k just isn´t as sharp as 4k, and even then 60fps slowed down to 30 wouldnt be so slow.
This is why I love niseko. Best Go Pro edit I've ever seen!
