    Love your last tip for fuel saving! I took that advice and got my Tesla Model X 100D last week. If you're ever down in Hamilton pop in to have a test drive.

    Fascinating. You are a true comedian. You should do an auto show. Well, actually you already are. :) In my small home town of Gamleby there are 2 charging stations for EVs at the shopping mall and I saw my first Tesla in real life today. It seem to accelerate quite fast.

    I have worked out that I only fill up 8 times a year. I have not filled up since before Christmas. So instead of getting brand new electric car as i was going to I have decided to get something silly instead like Jag.

    Still better mpg than a relative of mines 2006 Vw golf 1.6 fsi which has direct injection, on a good day it achieves 26 mpg ( using imperial UK gallons =4.54 litres) but God i love that thing

    In a fuel injected car when you use the engine to slow down, the efi electronics go into what is known as 'engine over-run cutoff ' and that is why you save more fuel rather than driving up to the stop and using your brakes.
    Also works on open country driving.

    I have to say I don't do all this stuff very much since getting my leaf 2011 24kwh. I used to have a g1 honda insight and would try to hit 101mpg which I managed a couple of times. these days it more guilt free and fun to drive something with massively more instant torque.We just bought an old 2002 ex ambulance fiat ducato maxi to convert to a camper. eventually id like to convert it to electric but at the moment ill be hypermiling it instead and maybe a veg oil conversion/ HHO or both.Will be interesting to see what car you get next.Had to give up my honda due to babies.

    • @rab6121
      @rab6121 5 лет назад

      Whereswally606 I would much rather suggest you buy an Nissan E-NV200 than converting. It will probably be much cheaper.
      But I’m thinking about getting an van as well. Since my new leaf doesn’t have an trailer hitch I can’t go camping like I used to...

    • @Whereswally606
      @Whereswally606 5 лет назад

      @@rab6121 i did consider an env 200 for a while but it is a) too small as i have 2 young kids and a husky and want a full camper b) doesn't have the range. I do like the vw ecrafter but cant afford the £62k price tag.
      Cheapest thing i can think of is buying a wrecked but mechanically drivable leaf and put that into my diesel fiat ducato. And treble up the battery for range. Still be more cost effective than and ecrafter. But for now im just going to enjoying converting it

    Here in Japan, in summer you wouldn't survive without AC for sure, I mean you could try but you would most likely end up with a heat stroke.

    What Ev's are you most interested in buying atm?

  • @zlozlozlo
    @zlozlozlo 5 лет назад

    If I recall correctly, the increased drag resulting from having your windows open is actually worse for your fuel economy than having the AC on. That might only apply to highway speeds though.

  • @SnazzBot
    @SnazzBot 5 лет назад

    Pumping up your tires so much does make them break worse, so it's always a balance between safety and efficiency.

  • @davidguckenheimer2831
    @davidguckenheimer2831 5 лет назад +2

    Why were you putting the windows down :0
    It destroys the aerodynamics of the car...
    AC would really be more efficient :c

    • @Rhaman68
      @Rhaman68 5 лет назад

      David Guckenheimer Actually, science has proof that using AC is less efficient than windows down provided your mate approves. My hybrid has an “Econ” mode that stops the compressor while using outside air for heating/cooling, windows up or down. Thanks

    • @thelondonbroiler
      @thelondonbroiler 5 лет назад +1

      General rule of thumb that I've heard more than a few times, is if you're going over 55mph/90kph, using A/C is more efficient (with the caveat that different vehicles with different drag coefficients with different window position(%up vs down), will cause this speed to vary).

    Hi, what is your opinion on the Sono sion? Do you think it's any point in covering the whole car in solar or is electricity just too cheap and accessible for that to make any sense?
    Yea and don't worry it doesn't look ridiculous driving with a manikin and high heals. That just make you insane. Funny video

      @KiwiEVadventures  5 лет назад +1

      Solar panels can work on a car, but most cost effective on your home. Buildings are energy hogs.

    • @symondo74
      @symondo74 5 лет назад

      Unfortunately covering your car in solar does not yield enough energy to be worth while. It takes a good 30KWH to fully charge a leaf accounting for charge losses. My Domestic solar can do that in a day. but we are talking 112m2 of solar panel area. You could squeeze 8m2 on a van I guess. but do the math.

    Additional fuel saving techniques.....Maori overdrive with the engine off! (Not legal) Tail gate a big rig! (Probably not legal either), Pretend you are broken down and get a tow. Or Simply just push the car!
    The best alternative would be to get an older diesel and run it on vegetable oil. (takeaway waste oil) Then you would forgo the horrible electric vehicle depreciation and actually save some money! Smells good too!
    I Sabotage my own passion for electric vehicles by looking at the big picture.......Grrr. I so badly want electric to work.
