So sorry it didn't work out in Florida. I kept looking for the next video on the Lada, but hey whatever is best for you. I'll keep watching. Hope it goes well back home!
up in Canada we only have to wait 15 years to import a car, so it's quite common to see little Kei cars like your Daihatsu running around, which is surprising given that most cars on our roads are huge jacked-up trucks, so it can make driving in rural areas quite scary, but that still hasn't stopped me from wanting one
I'd been wondering where you'd gone. Glad to see you're doing well and everything is falling into place. That's a cool little car, lots of good accessories for such a small car.
Sorry to hear things didn't work out in the U.S. but Welcome back to NZ. Like the little Daihatsu you brought a cool little car Great value, good to see a new video 🙂👍.
Im so glad seeing you once more !! Glad that youre feeling good and excited also !! Waiting for the new content from you youre awesome ! I just wish we could have seen that Lada EV conversion!! Was so pumped about it!! And I believe im not the only one 🙃
Walai tunaumizwa!!...our gvnt is milking us everyday...and when you purchase this via hire purchase...they milk you amost 7000$...our country is a joke.
Very sorry to hear about what has happened, and happy to see you landing on your feet. Love the Daihatsu. Though I left years ago, I know my way around Onehunga and Royal Oak a bit too..
Gavin, so good to see you have landed on your feet. Proud of you.. You always seem so ‘up’. I always get a bit of a smile when watching your videos. Wish you the best. Enjoy your life!
What an adorable little Daihatsu! Your old Peugeot i-On was based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, which was also a kei car, so it's nice your sticking with kei cars! Also sorry about the divorce, that sucks man :(
Still waiting for that awesome content. I saw you driving the long run with that beautiful Lada Niva and the unfortunate accident. You deserve a good chance mate.
👍👌👏 Seems to be a really great little car. Congrats for purchasing it and congrats for having a new and good job. Also congrats for beginning a kind of new life. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
Congratulations on your purchase of this vehicle. We have a lot of these Japanese cars in Russia, in Siberia. We buy them because they are cheaper and of better quality than new cars from the showroom.
I enjoyed this! And the Eric Idle's brother comment genuinely made me laugh out loud. It's a shame about the Niva, but that's insignificant compared to the upheaval in your personal life, glad things are on the up now. Happy New Year!
Glad you are doing well Gav, my spirit dropped a bit when you spoke about your new situation. Congratulations on your new job, and have a great new year! (I have been doing some testing on my free time for my local EV association, small subset of the main one in Norway.) Saw a lot! of Lada Niva's when me and the wife visited her parents in Russia for our kids one year birthday... Not many electrics I can tell you that, but it felt like seeing a unicorn when I saw my first Leaf down there! :D
Japanese Kei class cars are great. I have fully electric Peugeot iOn, which is locally assembled and rebranded Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Unfortunately, their production is ended and searching for new batteries is quite impossible.
Although badged as a Daihatsu Mira, which is owned by Toyota anyway, I think that car owes a lot of its design to the much early Suzuki Alto 3 cylinder. I had a 1993 Suzuki Alto 3 cylinder 660cc, 4 valves per cylinder. No aircon or power steering in those days, and a 5 speed manual gearbox, the carburettored engine gave me 51 mpg around town and 61 mpg on country runs including over steep hills. (The car already had over 200,000 kms on it when I bought the car in 2007). Note that Suzuki pioneered the electric power steering which is so common nowadays, because it doesn't continuously drain engine power from a small engine to run a pulley belt driven pump. The electric assistance only being on at low speed and tapering off as road speed increases. I'd still have my Suzuki today and be happy driving it, but it gave its life, so that I may live. Yes, I was tee-boned at speed, yet I walked, well limped, away. But the car was cactus afterwards. Even without airbags it had lots of passenger protections built in to the structure.
Stewth!! Probably Australian, sorry no idea what the NZ version is 😬. If I ever get to visit my family in Wellington we should meet up for a beer👍👍 We get lots of JDM cars here in the UK cos we drive on the correct side of the road too. There are some really weird and wonderful cars in Japan that not many outside get to see. UK ebay is full of them. Fantastic news re the job my friend. Will be keeping a close eye on here and The Twitter. Beardy out ………
Nice work mate...love your vids...iam from kenya..(africa) and these type of kei cars are common.they are cheap to maintain ..gettin one soon...thanks brother.
Congratulations on this new unique ride! 👍😃 Wish we could get Lada and other economy brands like this in the states. Will maintenance and basic replacement parts be easy to source for this?
I'm happy to see you're uploading still! I'm really looking forward to seeing you in your new role. Will you be uploading here or will you need to upload in another channel?
Hello, I was wondering if you have any recommendations for an entry level ev. I am looking to spend up to $30,000 and it looks like the only options we have in NZ are the i3 or the leaf. Also sorry to hear about your recent hardships. Silver linings have come through at least
Yeah mate, you can't go past a used Nissan Leaf for cheap electric motoring. I made a video about how to find a good one: ruclips.net/video/2xLBLhGwlX0/видео.html
Nice car mate. I got the same Mira car in Pakistan. Great car. Best for daily commute. P.S. The "B" in the transmission stand for Braking. It is used when you're going down a hill. "B" mode allows the engine to rev to 3000 Rpm throughout the speed range so a far greater engine braking response is felt when letting off the accelerator. Cheers mate.
As a sub from Russia I was really looking forward for future Niva conversion videos. Did you left the car in the States, do you still have plans with her?
Sorry to hear about your breakups in Slovakia and USA. There is Only learning’s from all of this relationship garbage. I’m your age and have been single all my life. Very happy. I Look forward to the electric conversion of this cute car! What are the certifications and government rules you will need to follow to make the EV conversion. Also congratulations on your job and so looking forward to your company electric car! Wow!
I had two fail marriages by the time I hit my forty's, I never married again but been with my third partner over 20 years and my life was ten times better retired now still with my third partner best of luck going forward bud 😁👍
Miss the Micro Cars here in North America, the best we can do with small cars is the Mitsubishi Mirage and Chevrolet Spark! both are excellent alternatives! good luck in your endeavors!!!
Sorry to hear about the marriage breakup. I'm very interested in your new job. Hopefully with this new government rebate there'll be more models hitting NZ markets than before. Do you reckon you'll still tinker with conversions and/or electric mods? The Lada was shaping up to be something pretty special. Your last conversion from a decade ago is the only well documented one from Aotearoa that I've managed to find and it'd be great to see something local. Whatever happens, good luck!
I'm in America and I love kei cars. My buddy has a kei van and it's a great little car. It's kinda scary in traffic since everyone thinks they need a giant truck to get groceries. I've been on the lookout for one but I know what I want and I'm picky, lol.
I’m surprised that they let you bring that thing in during the “thing”, New Zealand have taken it quite seriously and done a great job preventing it, but they are pretty harsh (from what i have heard).
Yes, it's been a while. Sorry to hear about the divorce and that it didn't work out in USA. Good luck in the future and i'm looking fwd to the new content. Was wondering Why you were selling the Lada, now i know. Sorry to see you go back to New Zeeland. But money talks and BS walks , Right!
Sorry to hear that you ended up with a divorce. That's never fun. I hope everything is okay again. In the meantime, what happened to your Lada? Is it in good hands?
Love this car! I have a massive soft spot for small cars, the smaller the better. My dream car would be a one-person EV like the Solo 😍 Congratulations on the new job and new EV 👏 🙌 Update video when you get it, please!
The Niva has been sold back to the person I bought it from and is now being stored as a museum piece due to its original condition. My American wife explained to me that she would prefer to be alone because I she is "bored" with being married to me. It was unfortunate and painful to hear these words, but you can't make someone love you who doesn't. I wish her the best and hope she finds what she is looking for.
Happy to hear about the Niva being saved. Would have been awesome to see it get carried forward as a conversation. Would have changed me from converting a Ford Ranger that's for sure.
When you grow up steering with the Right hand as you change manual gears with your left hand, it just seems so natural to do it that way ! Plus power steering was very very rare indeed, in cars in Britain, Australia and New Zealand, up until only comparatively recently. So advantageous to have one's strong Right hand gripping the steering wheel.
Congrats on escaping Florida!!
98 Octane??? Or is there a different way of measuring gasoline in NZ?
welcome back, we missed you man. I am 41 years old too. My advice is, never give up, you'll get there.
So sorry it didn't work out in Florida. I kept looking for the next video on the Lada, but hey whatever is best for you. I'll keep watching. Hope it goes well back home!

There is quite a few in the UK too because we drive on the "correct" side of the road, and as far as I am aware, you don't have to wait either!
I'd been wondering where you'd gone. Glad to see you're doing well and everything is falling into place. That's a cool little car, lots of good accessories for such a small car.
Well, Silver lining. Sometimes you have to have doors closed for new ones to open up. Grats and looking forward to new content.
i have the same car (base model no idle stop) for 3 years and I love it and I hope you will love it too
Finally you upload new video
Sorry to hear things didn't work out in the U.S. but Welcome back to NZ. Like the little Daihatsu you brought a cool little car Great value, good to see a new video 🙂👍.
You've come full circle mate! 👍 Trust me. Find happiness in the things you like doing. Single life is fine too!
Where are you going to put the batteries when you convert it, and will the auto box work with an electric motor etc?
Im so glad seeing you once more !! Glad that youre feeling good and excited also !! Waiting for the new content from you youre awesome ! I just wish we could have seen that Lada EV conversion!! Was so pumped about it!! And I believe im not the only one 🙃
agree
Nice to see you back in NZ and making videos! NZ is actually more interesting than US. Keep on keeping on.
In Kenya we buy such car's at 5000$ which is unfair if it costs 3000$ in new Zealand.
Walai tunaumizwa!!...our gvnt is milking us everyday...and when you purchase this via hire purchase...they milk you amost 7000$...our country is a joke.

In my country there a lot of tiny car like daihatsu ayla
Gavin, so good to see you have landed on your feet. Proud of you.. You always seem so ‘up’. I always get a bit of a smile when watching your videos. Wish you the best. Enjoy your life!
What happened to the Lada?
Glade you are back with all new content, think about new old ice car electric conversion!
Glad to see you back! Sad about the Lada conversion but if it had to be, it had to be.
What an adorable little Daihatsu! Your old Peugeot i-On was based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, which was also a kei car, so it's nice your sticking with kei cars! Also sorry about the divorce, that sucks man :(
Good to see you back on the little screen. Sorry to hear about your divorce. Looking forward to your new videos. Dave
ALWAYS BLESSED !!!!! I've been following you since your very first video....
God bless you always on your new journey!!!!

Kia Ora :) We get JDM cars in the Republic of Ireland too. Great series of films. Keep up the good work!
That's a crazy car, but looks perfect for what you are doing. Great to have you back active again!
Good to see you doing more videos ..
How is Rob doing? A visit or a interview would be cool... now when you are back on New Zealand
Glad you are doing well Gav, my spirit dropped a bit when you spoke about your new situation. Congratulations on your new job, and have a great new year! (I have been doing some testing on my free time for my local EV association, small subset of the main one in Norway.)

I had a Daihatsu Charade GTti (GTxx) epic car!!!!
So great to see the kiwi EVer again. Glad you have landed on your feet and cannot wait to see where your future takes you.
Sorry things didn’t work out in America, but best wishes on your journey with the Daihatsu

Thanks mate. Hit me up if you ever get to NZ!
Got to warn you though, I'm fantastically awkward in person. And boring too!
Great to hear you landed on your feet. Love the Kei car
But what happened with Lada? Greetings from Slovakia
I had to sell it. I couldn't take it with me to New Zealand.
Sorry for the sad news. Good luck with your new job. Hopefully this year going to bring allot of positive change! Good luck!

When running in the United States or Canada, it is better to replace the engine and run with an overfender.
New aloy rims and hks mufler on it

He sold it back to the same owner in Seattle
So we won’t see an electric Lada soon. Unless the Russian company are planning for one?

Good luck you crazy kiwi.
You still own this?
I’m surprised that they let you bring that thing in during the “thing”, New Zealand have taken it quite seriously and done a great job preventing it, but they are pretty harsh (from what i have heard).
Apparently, New Zealand uses Japanese emissions standards and crashworthiness standards anyway, so this complies with New Zealand Law anyway.
