This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

This channel also acts as a forum to make openly, speculative suggestions, to find common ground with other professionals (in both related and seemingly unrelated fields), educated lay people and members of the public at large, to either support or detract on the information provided, but either way engage in the scientific process. In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.
In general, the videos posted on this web site are not advertisements, and will clearly be labelled as such if necessary. Apart from educational books, the association does not sell anything or encourage anyone to have any form of treatment. It does aim to make people think, consider all options, ask questions and become fully informed.
Much of what is discussed on this site is not available from even the registered members, however a list of members is available on the web site, orthotropics.com.
Orthotropics essential means straight or correct growth. If your faces grows well it tends to work well. The concept is based on the Tropic Premise; www.watkinsdentalsurgery.com....
    The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
    www.nature.com/bdj/journal/v21...
The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimise the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures.

You’d have to see my before and after of my treatment. My teeth are straight, but my mandible was more forward at 9 years old than it is now at 25. Now my face is long and my mandible retruded to match my deficient maxilla. Their solution to my underdeveloped maxilla was to retard my mandible. That’s like having one crippled leg and the doctor’s solution is to cripple the other leg so they can match for aesthetic purposes.

This is John Mew. Thank you all who have offered your support. As many of you know the British General Dental Council (GDC) has removed my licence to practice, because I claimed that orthodontic treatment often damaged faces while orthotropics usually improved them. Not because I was accused of causing any harm. The GDC is also trying very hard to remove my son Michael's licence, although it is supposed to be an independent Government body. They certainly don't like anyone to disagree with them and have the power.
Michael like a good son is trying hard to overturn the GDC's decision to remove my licence but most orthodontists want their present lifestyle maintained. You can support both of us through his charity Patron and by supporting his appeal. For those who have influence it would be wonderful to have our work recognised with a Nobel Prize or something similar. Thankyou.

I can't thank you enough! Just started mewing two months ago and my days have changed completely. Seriously, I can breathe!! I feel like there is so much air in my lungs now. see, I suffered from constant throat infections and inflammations (pychosomatic symptoms),when I was a kid (turned 26 in march). Always (!) breathed through my mouth, needless to say, my face was FLAT.
I'm starting to lose that "popping" my ears make when I swallow, I can speak better. I had a hard time making the "c" "g" sounds from the back of my throat and the "t" ,"r" and "th" sounds from the front part of my mouth. But now there is so much space for the movements of my tongue!.
Yes, I do care about beauty, I mean I certainly look better but nothing compares with this feeling of FINALLY finding the solution to my lifelong problem. I am truly thankful. I would have never guessed the cause for my poor breathing.
I thought my voice was not that good but it was just that there wasn't any space for the air to flow inside my head: I'm experiencing improvement in my singing!!!!! my voice is getting brighter !!! this is true!.

This is so wonderful and peaceful, and I wish I was wearing orthotropic appliances, instead of being given retainers. Knowing what I know now, I can now look back on my pictures over the years and see my jaws being pushed backwards. And because the retainers took up loads of space on the roof of my mouth, they worsened my tongue position. Thanking you for your persistence in getting this message out, Drs. Mew.

To anyone reading this who's getting started. I've only been mewing for a few months but I can't stress enough the importance of sealing your lips while you sleep for turning the corner from correct posture being a conscious effort to a more neutral state.
If your mouth is sealed you have no option but to breathe through your nose and to do that your tongue will stay on the roof of your mouth. If that's where it's been all night out will be a lot easier to keep it there over the course of the day.
I'm 36 so i don't think I can hope for as muc (in terms of restructuring my face) as I'd like, but i do enjoy not waking up with a mouth as dry as a bone!

Been mewing for a few days now, I'm not going to say that I have any visual results, but I do feel a change. Before I started doing this I had the type of jawline that is slightly uneven (and still do), and would have to snap back into place from time to time, something like a shoulder that pops out of it's socket. And while it isn't visually noticeable, it was still a problem. Over the duration of four days, my jaw felt really weird because it always felt stuck or that it would snap some place else, and there is always concern for that, especially while eating and brushing my teeth. By day four which would be today, it's still weird, but I feel like have more control of my mouth, haven't had to snap it into place not once today, and I'm 100% sure, but it feels like it might be a little more forward than it use to be, that or the muscles around the bone have a better grasp, it feels more firm is all I'm trying to say.
