In early April I will be 77 years old. This song is one of my all-time favorites. About twenty years ago my wife and I went through the Jimi Hendrix Museum at the 1962 World's Fair site in Seattle. My wife got mad at me because I spent too long in the museum. If you are ever in Seattle, make a trip through the museum. You will enjoy it.
Most soulful Rock song ever recorded... I'm really feeling this song now as my wife of 16 years has told me she's in love with another man and is leaving me and our family, I'm not gonna 'give her the gun' and run away to Mexico to hide, but I do feel the pain that you feel from the lyrics, their delivery, and the untouchable guitar riffs that are haunting decades after their recording
All eyes may have been on Jimi, but not all ears mate. I listen to every note that Mitch plays on this song and I love what he does here. My guy was the perfect foil for Hendrix 😉
The perfect track. No flamboyant guitar on this one, just Jimi's cool persona all the way through and some power chords. The female chorus and slow rhythm while the drummer, who must have been in another room or planet, smashing away at 100 MPH.
Nobody has been able to do a version of H.J. better then this. A testament to the great ears Jimi and his crew had. They knew it had to be a slow burn, guitars low in the mix, bass not too busy, to highlight the drums and vocals. .......Masterpiece......
Thanks to youtube - we are able to listen to those magic moments of history again and again....it was a wonderful time - as long as we were together...
Jimi Hendrix was a guitar GOD, but nobody ever mentions bassist Noel Redding or drummer Mitch Mitchell, they also lended their talents to make the Jimi Hendrix Experience truly an Experience. Edit: Holy Sh*t! 1.5k likes and 72 replies!
I've experimented and listened to a hole host of music ranging from Electronic dance music to pop music, Metal to soul/funk blues and jazz, flamenco and classical stuff like Mozart and Bach and even stuff from far eastern cultures...But nothing ever hit me so hard as the day my day took a little 10 year old me on a car journey and played this to me for the first time. My young and naive little mind was blown into a thousand tiny little pieces. I go through various phases of listening to different types of music, but i'll always keep coming back to Hendrix...the guy and his music has a very special place in my heart
Aside from the extraordinary talent behind the instruments, is anyone else mesmerized and in complete awe at the backing vocals on this track? Nothing but beauty, power and deep soul in those vocals.
Anthony Chu I always thought. Mitch was one of the greatest drummers but he was in Jimi's shadow, but he knew how to play with jimi, buddy miles was a good drummer but he lacked the free wheeling improvisation that Mitch knew how to do with jimi. Mitch was like a jimi on drums. Many people talk about zeppelins bonham who I think was also a great drummer, he like miles was a drummer. But Mitch had that artist feel like jimi on the guitar, it was more than banging on drums or keeping a beat.. manic Depression, voodoo chile slight return are the best example of his drumming
Damn if I could go back in time for one moment, it would be a front row Jimi Hendrix show. Born 2003 and man do I wish the guitar god that is my idol in guitar playing was still here.
Loved how Jimi played a right hand guitar left handed! Only he could do this! Along with Janis ..it’s such a shame we lost so much talent at such a young age .Thank you for the music you left for us!
It's not just Hendricks guitar playing and voice, but also his lyrics and songwriting ability were off the charts. All together with his guitar, voice, lyrics, tunes and a great base player and drummer , Mitchell was incredible, these 3 guys achieved something that will never be remotely duplicated!
It's a shame Jimi & Chandler couldn't have picked a real bass player for the band instead Noel was always holding his 'guitarist' candle whilst with the Exprience, but the three of them certainly jelled enough to give Jimi his space to 'do his thang' so to speak...!
Ravi S Chacha, RIP legend forever is correct as hell. I love Jimi always did, and way before his time and my time. I could hear him way back then and can still hear him now. Jimi forever and his little drummer who is so cute. Dusty the 2nd.

Sang this song with my band for a talent show when I was 14. We stole the fucking show! Wish I was still in a band playing everyday. Music courses through my veins! :) Jimmy your music lives forever.
I'm a big fan of Jimi's playing but I never cared for his singing, however, he really does a great job with the vocals on this song and the backing vocals put it over the top.
I love Jimi's voice to be honest. So many people have told me they can't stand his singing voice. I think, even though he's no powerhouse like Freddie Mercury or Plant, he still sounds authentic
@andrewshuck159 Same here.If you have not heard them, try " Tom Dooley'(hang down your head). Then John Loudermilk's "Tobacco Road " ,or The Harry Smith"s cover of "Furry's Blues"

I don't understand how such a simple, laid back song can be so capturing and "effective". It's hypnotic! And the way that little part in the beginning sets the mood is amazing.
Every time I hear this studio recording I hear something new. I've been listening to it on a regular basis since it was first released. The amount of creativity in Jimi's guitar parts is mind boggling. Pure genius! Great artistic creations are timeless!

😂 you must not listen to a lot music. There's plenty of guitar players that are much better.
@@-VOR Oh great, don't tell me. You're a Dream Theater fan and you're here to tell us all about how the world's greatest instrumentalists are all "bottom of the barrel?"
@@SuperKONR You try picking the guitar with your teeth, like Hendrix does at the beginning of this video. "Sloppy?" Unless you put him up against Andreas Segovia, Hendrix is the best guitarist this world has, or will, produce.
I was utterly devastated to learn he died on my birthday.. he represented the most amazing guitar player I’d ever heard in my life. Thank goodness for You Tube keeping these gems alive
I love Jemi Hendrix. I see so many other people love this. I will be playing your playlist.
I am 69 years old and this is still my favorite song.
Cool
69, feeling fine
❤Facts
66 here and this was my first album ❤
In early April I will be 77 years old. This song is one of my all-time favorites. About twenty years ago my wife and I went through the Jimi Hendrix Museum at the 1962 World's Fair site in Seattle. My wife got mad at me because I spent too long in the museum. If you are ever in Seattle, make a trip through the museum. You will enjoy it.
I've been listening to this version for the last 45 years, and it never gets boring.
Well said, sir
Voz muito linda. Ele Tb era muito bonito
It will be 44 for me next month💇🏽♂️
Agree
Gets better every time
Most soulful Rock song ever recorded...
I'm sorry you're having to go through that pain.
B*tches aint s*it-dr Dre
I hope things are getting better for you. The pain that love leaves is tough to shake off.
Damn man. Women can deal you a bad hand sometimes. This last one I was with was crazy. Hope your doing OK my man. I feel you.
Keep your head up, king. She wasn't good enough for you anyway. You'll find Mrs. Right
I knew him for the guitar but , WOW he's got a great voice too. I feel sorry for Mr Mitchel, one of the best drummers ever and all eyes were on Jimmy.
That little British drummer is awesome.
mitch Mitchell
How?
yea he is, like he drummed like perfectly to the song
coderedcomputerguy listen to hey joe,
not one beat too much, not more less,
hits it!
Mitch Mitchell easily one of the best drummers of all time.
The sirens in the background are the cherry on top
If you're listening to this right now, I mean really listening to it, Jimi and the boys have just entered your soul forever.....
Thanks to youtube - we are able to listen to those magic moments of history again and again....it was a wonderful time - as long as we were together...
... - it is called re-mastered....-
Cd's yeah, i know.. they're a thing :)
hah gay!
I love Ginger, Ringo, John and Keith, but Mitch is my favorite!
Those bass lines are pretty fun when you're on stage
Very true!!!
Yeah the bass line in this song is really good especially that part at 2:20
Absolutely brother.....
Cannot write a comment that would do this guy justice xxx
Jimi was the guitar god of rock
An admirable comment
Maybe the most powerful and soulful songs of all time!!!
It was made perfect by those women's harmonies.
I love the backing vocals in this song too. They were sung by a female trio called the Breakaways.
The Chaz Chandler sound
they are hauntingly beautiful
they weren't in the track. everytime this song plays, the angels sing........amen
Hendrix was never from this planet, he is an irreplaceable artist, Hendrix is my great hero, I will always love you Jimi. 😘🎸🤘🏻
Just perfect , I believe it , thanks my friend حسن البستكي
Mitch Mitchell probably one of the most underrated drummers this guy was raw!
Absolutely, right up there with Baker, Bonham and Moon. Not many played with such a jazzy energy as he did.
my nick name is mitch and my last name is mitchell so of course im ill..baleedat!
Yeah, I like the way he just goes for it.
He's one of the best drummers of all time. Listen to fire and manic depression. Definitely top 5
Yes he was! He was an awesome percussionist....his timing was impeccable😀
Mitch Mitchell is one damn good drummer and probably the best. Noel was a good bassist, but Jimi was a guitar God. All 3 together, this is LEGENDARY!
Completely agree with that
I saw him with The Dead, Steve Miller, and Cactus.
Temple Stadium in May
1970. $5.00.
He did this and Machine Gun
Damn if I could go back in time for one moment, it would be a front row Jimi Hendrix show. Born 2003 and man do I wish the guitar god that is my idol in guitar playing was still here.
Arthur Ff
Wow that must have been awesome!!!!
damn ur lucky!
Arthur F. Scaltrito jealous bro!!!
God rest your soul Jimi !
RIP legend..forever
Ravi S Chacha, RIP legend forever is correct as hell. I love Jimi always did, and way before his time and my time. I could hear him way back then and can still hear him now. Jimi forever and his little drummer who is so cute. Dusty the 2nd.
I’ve been on the run from the law several times. Currently am right now and I love when he says “I'm goin' way down south
Way down where I can be free
Ain't no one gonna find me
Ain't no hangman gonna
He ain't gonna put a rope around me
You better believe right now” that is very powerful to me.
Arthur morgan here
"Ain't no hangman gonna put a rope around me better believe it right now!" Best line in the whole damn song¡
the greatest to ever touch a guitar
Doesn't get any better than this, Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Noel Redding. Best group of all time, nobody else even close.
check out 'the aristocrats' peace 'n' love to jimi tho!
70 years young ( cancer survivor ) love me some jimi😅
the sound of jimmy's guitar is the sound of freedom to me.
Sang this song with my band for a talent show when I was 14. We stole the fucking show! Wish I was still in a band playing everyday. Music courses through my veins! :) Jimmy your music lives forever.
Grizz Lee that would have been so cool,i can just imagine blastin my jr. high school in 76 with hey joe!
Straight genius and 🔥 was Mr Jimi Hendricks
Hendrix
Some say 'Little Wing' but I say this is Jimi's greatest. I've lost count how many times I keep coming back to this. Blues built to perfection.
Mitch Mitchell, drumming genius.
He is underrated. He's my fav drummer
My favorite rock drummer! Yep, even more than Moon and Bonham and Baker
@@Bioniking nobody can beat Bonham ok calm down there bud
@Joel Banning oh yeah
Even Stewart Copeland and Nick Mason they both agree that Mitch Mitchell is their favourite drummer
The greatest! #2024 🎸
he sings exactly to the music and feel of the song.
I'm a big fan of Jimi's playing but I never cared for his singing, however, he really does a great job with the vocals on this song and the backing vocals put it over the top.
Sicuramente il più grande chitarrista del mondo .🥰🤗😘♥️
I love Jimi's voice to be honest. So many people have told me they can't stand his singing voice. I think, even though he's no powerhouse like Freddie Mercury or Plant, he still sounds authentic
+Dave Grohl I hate Dave Grohl's voice XD
+Dave Grohl His voice is casual and real.
+Dave Grohl I agree. He sings great and his guitar playing was decent too :)
+Gref Klayn Yes thats another way of saying he cant sing!!Nice ,Your right!! What Jimi snored in his sleep was better than dave
+salvadormarley Decent??? His guitar playing was superior, the best we've ever seen
Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell are the other half of this brilliant musical experience!
53 years ago today we lost him
Das ist der Hammer
I love songs like this that just straight up tell a story
@andrewshuck159 Same here.If you have not heard them, try " Tom Dooley'(hang down your head). Then John Loudermilk's "Tobacco Road " ,or The Harry Smith"s cover of "Furry's Blues"
The Animals version of “Tobacco Road” is terrific ❤
Anyone else just love those background singers?
It's The Breakaways, they also sang on Burt Bacharach's first album that was also recorded in London. They did bv's for a lot of big names.
@stephenhowell5611
Wow. They sound amazing!
@@stephenhowell5611
TY😊
Background singers are mesmerizing
@@caragraham6285 hell yeah man.
My favorite song. It always brings a tear to my eyes. The best Guitar strummer ever, gone at age 27 over 50 yrs ago. That haunting choir singing in the back is amazing. Jimi we miss you.
Takes me back to my college crash pad room in 1966. Lava lamp in the corner the only light, incense glowing on the plate, sweet smells wafting about the room. Passing one around among friends. Timeless.!
Pour moi il reste le plus grand guitariste de tout les temps merci à toi Jimmy
I don't understand how such a simple, laid back song can be so capturing and "effective". It's hypnotic! And the way that little part in the beginning sets the mood is amazing.
Every time I hear this studio recording I hear something new. I've been listening to it on a regular basis since it was first released. The amount of creativity in Jimi's guitar parts is mind boggling. Pure genius! Great artistic creations are timeless!
Simple? Jimmy was the first of his kind. Nothing Simple about it. In my opinion
It's astounding...I agree 👍🙏👍🙏
That's the blues lol
Top tune I'm 48 and still rocking out to all this rip
Love Jimmy Hendrix, I was born in 1961, he’s my bread 🍞 and butter 🧈!
