My dad always adored led zeppelin. He passed on his taste of music to me at a young age. Last Wednesday he passed away peacefully in his bed, surrounded by his family, and we played stairway to heaven. Miss you dad.
Same here! Almost exactly the same which is weird. But my dad passed in 2012. It gets easier I promise, you’ll always miss him but the pain lessens with time 💕 stay strong
So sorry for your loss, Ben. It's very painful for some time, but step by step, day by day, you start to move on. You start to laugh and smile again. Like Mak said, it does get easier.
My sister was probably 15 when she bought the vinyl in the mid 70's and tragically passed away in 78'. My parents gave me her album and I love every song. Still listen to it on my record player.
My Grandfather absolutely loved Led Zeppelin. Whenever me or my siblings were in the car with him and this song came on, he always told us that this was the greatest song of all time. He passed away 7 December 2021. Now every time I hear this song or any Zeppelin song, I'm convinced that he put it on for me. Rest easy, Grandpa. I'll keep getting the Led out for you.
I'm sorry your Grandpa had to go. It's so odd for me to know exactly what I was doing the day he died, but December 7th is my brother's birthday, and at one point in the morning that day I was sitting out back on the patio sending him a long, brotherly text. And I remember thinking that I never forget his birthday partly because it's also Pearl Harbor Day. Now I will never forget that it's the day that Mitchell's Grandpa passed on. Kind thoughts to you, friend. Grandpa has climbed the stairway, huh? As a grandpa myself, I can assure you too that he loved you and the others in a way that was multiplied even from how he loved his own children. Kids are great, but grandchildren are great+++ because as we (that's you too) get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the only way we can live on here on Earth...through you. Peace.
The great thing about long rock songs is, usually, it's not 8 long minutes of hard rock. It's a journey, a slow path up to the top, a song that takes the time not because it wants more rock, but because it NEEDS the time to have the proper buildup. Songs like this take their time because the crescendo wouldn't be the same without the slow, building melody that creates it. In other words, you'll always need to build that stairway if you want to truly make it to heaven.
Great music, nay all great art, is like great sex. Enjoy the journey instead of rushing to the destination. This _contrast_ makes us appreciate the totality of the experience.
In March 1971 My girlfriend and I went to the Ulster Hall in Belfast to hear Led Zeppelin. That night they played this song for the first time and WE WERE THERE!! Didn't realise this at the time but we were among the first 1500 people to witness musical history.. Now married 53 years and counting.
*Stairway To Heaven* *----------------------------* There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh And she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure 'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook There's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, it really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh If there's a bustle in your hedgerow Don't be alarmed now It's just a Spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by But in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Your head is humming and it won't go In case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? fortunate enough to see them live way back when but I think it may have been Hammersmith Odeon .. R.Plant still has the most soulful voice any rock singer has ever posessed and would have loved to hear him duet with J.Joplin

My deepest condolences for your tragic loss. That is against nature: everyone loses everybody eventually, but burying a child is never supposed to happen: as a parent of two young girls, I cannot imagine the measure and depth--the chasm--of that grief. I wish you all the best in that process.
I am so sad for your loss, l have one child who is 21 & he is my whole world. This is one of my all time favourite songs. I don't know your son's name but l will pray that God gives you strength & l just want to say l love you. 🙏❤️

It's my mum's 8th year anniversary of her passing. And this song was one of her songs played at her funeral. I always deliberately try to avoid this song, but every year I will play this no matter how much it hurts. Rip mum. Miss our talks, laughs, the lot.🙏🌻🌈📻
My dad passed away in 2019 and this is one of his favorite songs 🤍 I had the lyrics tattooed on me before he passed, but now they take on a new meaning...I love and miss u so much dad 💜 Edit: my pic is him holding me when I was a baby in ‘89
EVEN THOUGH THIS SONG NEVER HIT BILLBOARD, STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN BY LED ZEPPELIN HAS BECOME A ROCK AND ROLL MASTERPIECE FOR OVER 50 YEARS. BRAVO, FELLAS. Kenneth Huang. 10/12/24.
I'm no drummer, I actually play guitar. But when I heard this song for the first time somewhere between 15 to 20 years ago, it was the DRUMS that got me into it. This is exactly the way rock should sound on drums: subtle but open and with lots of feeling and presence. Bohnam was huge! a true master of the art.
This song was recorded in 1971, and it still sounds spectacular over 50 years later! The song just stands the test of time. An absolutely phenomenal recording by Led Zeppelin!!!
@@olijackson2800 I'm 16 and I feel the same way man! I'm glad our younger generations are listening to well made, well thought out music, moving music!
I’m a nurse who used to take care of ICU patients. This song reminds me of a patient I had. When we removed his life support, his family requested we listen to rock music because it was his favorite. He finally passed to this song. I’ll never forget them.
My dad assed from cancer almost 3 yrs ago. As I would take of him this song came on the radio. He told me when he passed when I hear the song it’s him saying hi. I cry all the time. I miss him dearly. Wish heaven had a phone. 😢
I was a little kid when we were coming home from a renaissance fair in the evening. My parents played this in the car as I watched the pine trees go by. One of my favorite memories.
I remember the first time hearing this song when I was about 6 or 7 years old. It's a very special song to me because it was playing on the radio in my dad's truck when we were out I believe on a Friday evening.
@@EmersonPUSA Yeah, imagine if Jimmy Page came into the guitar store one day... being able to witness the epic transformation of expression on the face the guitar store employee, from rage to astonishment after realizing who he's listening to, would be even more hilarious, no?

My father passed away this month. He is the reason I listen to Led Zeppelin, and many other bands or artists still to this day, and this song will now forever remind me of him. He's one of the few people I look up to, and I appreciate him for persevering for as long as he did even though things kept getting worse and worse for him and I. Thank you dad, for making me a better person with some good taste in music. I hope to see you again someday.

Always some dickweed who has nothing better to do than type out the words to a song everyone knows already. On the other hand, at least this is - in some small way - better than most of the other tired cliches the other commentators post. The way it transitions from slow in the beginning to absolutely rocking at the end is so flawless, you don’t even realize it’s happening. Wonderful song
There's no word to truly describe the beauty and meaning of this song's lyrics. It makes me wonder how Led Zeppelin could write this. These lyrics are mysterious and only the feeling can help me understand the true meaning of this song

@@claudedevries8642 pretty sure OP was making a joke about how the song changes so much throughout its duration and just overall how it feels more like an experience than just any old song, in other words it makes you feel like you're on a journey not that you're actually on one. Don't take things to literally.
@@kinoirvoidjustice and it actually says the lady knows words have two meanings in the first minute. I wonder if it's actually an intentional message. Or it was just super super super big misunderstanding.
Like Robert Plant once said about Stairway to Heaven, "It was no longer ours and neither should it be." I feel this song is such an anthem to so many - an incredible legacy that is Led Zeppelin. Thank you to one of the greatest of all time.
And from 5:34 to about 6:44 ladies and gentlemen is why Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Lots of musicians can make a guitar talk, but only a select few can make it sing. That right there is a minute and ten seconds of pure bliss. Never gets old. Each time you hear it is like hearing it for the first time again. This is Zep’s magnum opus, and quite possibly the greatest rock song ever made.
As I’m replying to this comment I’m hearing that guitar solo for the first time. I’m just getting into Led Zeppelin and yeah this can’t be far from the truth. One of the most beautiful Rock songs of all time.
David Gilmour is the only other person I can think of that can make a guitar sing. Perhaps in a different way than Jimmy Page, though. Both are basically legends when it comes to that specific instrument at this point though
@@nayreel3529 My friend always says Jerry Garcia can make the guitar sing but I myself am not that big on the greatful dead so idk....I totally agree about David Gilmore though
The phrasing of the solo is a masterpiece. It's not just fast scale runs up and down the fretboard. It's goes somewhere and tells a story. Every inspiring guitarist should know this solo as redundant as it is to say. It teaches you pretty much every technique in blues and rock music.

My dad used to play this song on the guitar to my sister and I growing up. He died in 2018 and this is the absolute most beautiful memory to remember him by. No matter the time that passes, this song will forever bring tears to my eyes. How can such an amazing talented man be taken away from us so early 💔
This song has had a transcendent effect on MILLIONS, GENERATIONS, for 50 years and counting. It defined a generation, an era of tremendous musical talent, that many would try to emulate years later. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still being listened to hundreds of years from now such as the works of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. And now, Led Zeppelin joins that list. That's how much of a masterpiece this is! 🕊 Love.✌
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin. It wasn't until I was older that I came to understand the message in Stairway to Heaven. It is possibly the greatest song ever written; it altered the landscape of rock and roll. Written by Robert Plant, whose voice leads us on the journey through seamless instrumental brilliance that's both delicate and thunderous, he tells a story of materialism and spiritualism, of faith, doubt, and the eternal quest for something greater than ourselves. He invites us to seek enlightenment and spiritual fulfillment, but we can only get there together, in unity. Stunning.
My life is really tough right now, and every time i lay down in bed listening to this song on my own, I just close my eyes and let my feelings through. This song helps me relax. I love it so much

Too bad they chose to create a generic video for the song. I would have loved to see more clips of the band members when they were younger around the time this song was being created. Yea, I know they like to sell that type of stuff to fans, but this is an official video for one of their premier songs for godsakes. It should have top tier video footage to go along with the song.
@@Daniel-yq9zm I was going to say! Not as bad as the kid who told me that Nickleback was a better band than Zeppelin and that the greatest drummer was not Bonham, but Dre (becuase apparently John Bonham couldn't beat box and that's all that qualifies to be a good drummer).
This is not a song, it`s an anthem of Rock, performed by the Gods of Rock. I fell in love with this in 1971, at the age of 15 and here I am, 53 years later still very much in love with it. It will outlive us all. When the last star goes out, the last sound in the Universe will be Robert Plant, singing those final few words.
My papa listened to this song a lot, he was one of the people who raised me. I lost him a little over a year ago now due to a broken heart a month after my grandmother. My dad mentioned I should learn to play this on guitar to make him proud. I’m just a beginner, but I will. No doubt.
My dad and me had a complicated relationship, all time arguing about dumb stuff, but music always did put us together. This was the song we played on his funeral 4 years ago. Time has been stopped for me since then. If you are reading this on a similar situation, i'm sorry for your loss. I miss you so much dad

A true classic. Stairway To Heaven is one of Led Zeppelin's finest works as it's just as perfect and holy as the heaven it describes. For some it is their best song while for others it's Black Dogs or A Whole Lotta Love but regardless of which one is considered the best together these songs represent everything I love about this band from the catchy melodies in their music, enchanting vocals and the unique sounds they make with their instruments that all come together to make timeless rock pieces which will not only be iconic for their use in popular culture but also as what true passion for the craft looks like as it's just ordinary people who simply decided to share their beautiful music with the world. Led Zeppelin will forever rock and may their legacy and work never fade.
My favorite band and song of all time! Since it came out. I was six years old. The have always and will forever rock my space! Thank you to all the band.
I just listened to this song for THE first time ever- I’ve never heard anything more beautiful in my 19 yrs of living🥺 Wow thank you all for the support I didn’t expect the comment to blow up at all just trying to enjoy this amazing new genre of music!! **Update** I bought an electric guitar and I’m slowly learning the song!
Each era claims its own timeless classics. The works of Mozart and Beethoven are celebrated not just as classical music, but as eternal masterpieces. Likewise, Stairway to Heaven transcends the label of classic rock; it embodies the depth, complexity, and emotional resonance of true classical music. It’s a modern symphony that has woven itself into the fabric of musical history-one of the defining classical pieces of our time
Well they have no clue what great music this is it's a timeless classic. I remember in high school chorus some got to choose songs to preform live & my classmate & his band chose this song after they were done with their performance the school stood shocked cuz they didn't know what to make of it. Well I started yelling & clapping & told Wes that him & his band did such a great job. People need to broaden their horizons & not be so uptight & enjoy awesome music
I think the reason I am wearing hearing aids at 73 is "thank you" Led Zeppelin. God, I loved this band and their music. Memories of riding around around for hours listening to this album. My wonderful days of being a hippie!
This was one of my father's favorite songs, when I was 5 he showed it to me and since that time it is one of my favorites, although since he died I can't stop crying when I hear this song. although later I sing it at the top of my lungs with my brother, father wherever you are, thank you for teaching me these themes and loving them. I love you ✨💜
This is pure unadulterated brilliance... A song, lyrics, time, place which will outlive us all. As we , if we are lucky, say farewell to this world; this will flourish and be reborn continually. We sleep or we are no more while the graves quiet are surrounded by a forest in laughter
VeraMarie Cano Thank you. I’ve never used drugs nor been high. You obviously know we can appreciate brilliant music without drugs. I’m not judging anyone who uses them but I don’t and your comment to whoever shows you can love music in any frame of mind
Some day we will all return to the energy of the universe like your father. None of us will be forgotten, but also none will be remembered. We are both nothing, and everything simultaneously.
There is always someone on earth who will remember how you made them feel and loves you. RIP DAD. The stairway to the universe will take care of your soul forever❤
I have always felt as if there was something special regarding this band. Now I realize what it is: they all share the fame. In bands closer to the present, all you would know would be the vocalist. But with Led Zeppelin, you know each member for being a part of something. Plant: So much emotion in each word. Bonzo: Best drummer of all time, sets the pace. Page: Contributes to everything written and writes powerful notes to fit in. JPJ: A silent killer. The fact that this band was capable of finding a role for each member is incredible... it just kills me how everything fits in. It's quite spectacular that a band like this could make you feel like you're rising up a Stairway To Heaven.
It’s as if the band wouldn’t be complete without each other. I’m so convinced that if it were Page, Plant or JPJ who had passed instead of Bonham. The result would be the exact same. This band all relied on each other for their peak success. I’m so taken by them.
@Hunter Vonnegut It's good to acknowledge young rock musicians these days because of the scarcity of rock bands. You should listen to "Go Help Yourself" by Forrester, it has that blues/hard rock feel to it.
I’m going to leave this comment so when someone like this I will be reminded to watch this again
Nice!!!

My dad always adored led zeppelin. He passed on his taste of music to me at a young age. Last Wednesday he passed away peacefully in his bed, surrounded by his family, and we played stairway to heaven. Miss you dad.
May he go on his stairway to heaven, I am truly sorry.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I understand your loss, keep believing in yourself, you can do anything you want🙏 trust yourself 💙

God i cant imagine losing one of my siblings, im sorry for your loss
Peace.
In my house this masterpiece play now... Huge kiss from ITALIA
This is truly the one of the best songs ever written
My dad passed away December 2019 and when asked what his favorite song was, he said it was this. I come back here to feel close to him.
Не забывай своего дедушку. Светлая ему память. Я тожк очень люблю эту песню и исполнителей.
This comment needs to be seen by way more people. It's accurate, insightful, and applies perfectly to this song and songs just like it.
Wonderful comment here!!!Truly captures the essence of the song.
Mean it
Great music, nay all great art, is like great sex. Enjoy the journey instead of rushing to the destination.
This _contrast_ makes us appreciate the totality of the experience.
Duuuuude, that is deep
In March 1971 My girlfriend and I went to the Ulster Hall in Belfast to hear Led Zeppelin. That night they played this song for the first time and WE WERE THERE!! Didn't realise this at the time but we were among the first 1500 people to witness musical history.. Now married 53 years and counting.
Liar.... U know what, my father wrote this song and sell it to ledzep... 53years and counting royalties...

*Stairway To Heaven*

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know, sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a Spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you, at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

I'm no drummer, I actually play guitar. But when I heard this song for the first time somewhere between 15 to 20 years ago, it was the DRUMS that got me into it. On the other hand, at least this is - in some small way - better than most of the other tired cliches the other commentators post. But then, this a-hole shares this profundity: "If you’re having a rough time and you don’t know what life’s about listen to Stairway to Heaven, it is Truly Timeless is its depth and message…. As we get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the way we can live on here in memories on Earth." The inclination is to think that's got be a joke. How stupid would you have to be to try to seriously pass of such pretentious pseudo-philosophy as an actual idea? Nauseating.

I kid you not, this song and the Pink Floyd Album Dark side of the moon, the first time I heard them - I definitely had this wild deja vu like damn Ive heard this hundreds of time before.
There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Oh oh oh oh and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiving
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who standing looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon, If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

This song has had a transcendent effect on MILLIONS, GENERATIONS, for 50 years and counting. It defined a generation, an era of tremendous musical talent, that many would try to emulate years later. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still being listened to hundreds of years from now such as the works of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. And now, Led Zeppelin joins that list. That's how much of a masterpiece this is! 🕊 Love.✌

We aren’t going to be here hundreds of years from now. Humanity is doomed.
Always.

Page said he was intent on creating a magnificent GROUP and he did. There were no passengers in Zeppelin.
Except heaven doesn't exist.
