I was surprised to be honest the difference was noticeable even under my slightly unscientific approach
I saw pretty decent results on my Dell XPS too. Used to throttle like mad, but MX-4 worked wonders!
It's pretty amazing how good ryzen laptops are. You can actually get your windows updates done in good time, unlike the E or A series AMD laptop chips that honestly are so slow they deserve Windows XP. Almost 400 in cpu-z single core is pretty damn good for a budget laptop.
yeah the ryzen range has made a massive difference in the laptop market
@@mikesunboxing lenovo idepad s145 laptops gets better score on cpu z. it gets 2085 in multi core score. It has the same ryzen 5 3500u processor.I think this laptop doesnt have good cooling??
In today's video I saw myself making maintenance to laptops. LOL. I use ARCTIC thermal compound for my and my costumers CPU's & GPU's (for 3 years I used MX-4, now Silver 5). In my case: the Silver 5 combined with the DeepCool Gammaxx 400 cooling my old FX 6300: max temp: 55ºC, low: 27ºC. In the ZOTAC GTX 1060: Max: 68ºC, min 43ºC. Not bad! Thanks for the how to, Mike!

Must finish my laptop upgrade, T1700 Celeron to T8300 Core 2 Duo (though the Celery is a dual core, the C2D is higher clock, 3x the cache and should allow the 800 RAM to run at 800)
Got the cheapest "super" paste I could find, which was a very small tube of Prolimatech PK-2 - and as it's a naked core, will probably pre-spread to be sure of 100% coverage - 35W TDP going through a rather small area.
MX-4 is good, but I wanted something a step further but didn't fancy messing with liquid metal.
With 4GB (2x2, as 4GB DDR2 SODIMM were a crazy price in comparison), Do I run X64, or X86 and sacrifice some of the RAM, I think the extra bit of available RAM should compensate for the maybe larger X64 code
i would consider if the driver will be available in the 64 bit version depending on how old it is. i had a toshiba that would only use 32 bit drivers similar era cpu also
Should I do this to my stock speed processor too? Or is this needed only for overclocked processors?

it should not be metal right? shouldn't it be copper the heat pipe?
copper has better heat transfer properties but any metal can be used
weird yours has only the cpu? sure it is an apu but my 3500u laptop has a gpu spot filled with a vega 8. but your gpu spot is emtpy. are there different 3500u's we don't know about?
vega 8 is built in graphics not a dedicated gpu
in cpu-z benchmark i got 1403 multi thread cpu result and 289 for single thread for this cpu despite having same laptop and moreover i just bought it 1 and a half months back ...is it a manufacturing problem

the chip and vega are not upgradeable in this model
Hey how long does the thermal paste last for until you have to put more?
depends on the usage but they say the paste in non curing so should last years. I personally change mine every year or so as part of routine cleaning

My HP 15-db with a 3500u hard throttles down to 2.1ghz at 70C. Running a CPU-Z benchmark I get 1950 for 2 seconds after which it hits 70C and progressively drops until hitting a final score of 1469 :(. I've opened the laptop before to upgrade the RAM and SSD and looking at a picture I took last time I opened it, it seems the 'smart' people at HP put a label with a barcode right on the radiator part of the heatsink. That label covers about half of the radiator.. Thinking I should definitely get some MX-4 or Hydronaut and rip that label off. I'm a little worried about breaking the SMD devices next to the CPU when cleaning the old paste, but I guess if I'm gentle and stay away from them I should be fine.

@@mikesunboxing Unfortunately, one of the screws holding the heatsink is stripped, so I simply can't unscrew it and don't want to apply too much force. I was already heavily bending the motherboard when I gave up afraid I'll break something. The good news is that after removing a large bar of dust from the heatsink and removing that stupidly placed label, I'm now getting 1950 in CPU-Z benchmark with the CPU not going over 65C. Idle temps have gone from 51C to 40C. Pretty happy overall, tho I hope the stock thermal paste lasts, because I have no idea how I'd be able to unscrew that stripped screw.
Can you upgrade the cpu on these? I have the same acer laptop but it came with the ryzen 3, could I just put a ryzen 5 cpu in?

you can't really over clock anything on here as such, but more ram does help speed things up
Hi Mike. This video is giving me an idea. How about a water cooled laptop? 🤣 That could be something fun to try. I always clean laptop CPU's with a Cotton swab and 90% isopropyl alcohol. Those are good benchmarks for a laptop.

Nice idea oletta not sure where the components would go but a great idea. I think one of the Microsoft surface range has a water cooling system

Okay so I know Im gonna get a bunch of crap for this lol but I am a green horned nube as far as pcs are concerned but I am learning very quickly I might add how to replace and or rebuild hardware. But I made a grave mistake the last time I pulled my acer aspire A515-43 apart..... When reconnecting the battery I bent back two of the I think 10 gold pins in the battery connector on the MotherBoard. So now my battery won't connect all the way. When I try to put battery back in the led comes one stating it's charging and what not but won't power on unless it's plugged in. Alternatively I've decided to remove battery and run on ac power but it's causing issues with updating. How can I fix this, will I have to buy another motherboard?

Ihave this laptop... But idk what is the problem with my cpu... It never get used above 50-60%usage ... While playing any game... Even if it is an old one... I have to turn every setting low.... To play with approx 27-30 fps.... What may be the problem... And my laptop temperature is also 75%C without playing any game... Plzz help me...

Dude, you have single channel ram, buy extra ram stick. The Vega 8 graphics works best in dual channel ram
@@suvan3912 i have dual channel...but still no change...i think there is a fan error...cuz a software called speedfan...is not dertecting my fan speed..and i think tht my fan is not running moreover i am not able to hear the fan speed as well as air coming out of it ....and there is no option in bios to turn it on...if you know somethin plzz tell me dude
You can't go wrong with MX4 use it on CPU, GPU & chip set heat sinks, the pads they use on motherboards even expensive ones are cheap & nasty crap like used chewing gum.

I fancy one for my R5 3600 build in July trying to get 3600MHz/32GB of b-die ram in the UK is near impossible any suggestions where anywhere I can buy b-die with this spec at a reasonable price (all the reviews for newegg I have read have been bad) or do you know if crucial balistix C16 will do the same job just as well?
